This should not be a thought, friend. EVERY man should have an excellent fitting suit.

Get two - one winter-weight and one summer-weight.

I have several very nice suits in my closet....which is why I'm a member trying to lose 35 pounds! Can't wait to fit into them again.

My rule of thumb is I don't buy anything until I need it. Helps prevent impulse buying, particularly at Home Depot.
I can't think of anything I would actually need a suit for any time in the next few years. I think I may have one sport coat that fits again. :)

If not gray, navy would work as well. I agree with skipping the black suit.

Definitely not one with a pinstripe.

A subtle pinstripe is awesome. Not a thick white pinstripe all gangster style.

    Suits...
My first "suit" was issued by the Army. The Class A uniform which is basically a suit with lots of pretty medals on it.

The pant leg broke just at the instep of the foot.
The jacket was able to fit my forearm in between my chest and the breast of the jacket with very little room to spare.

I now own several suits. Mostly cotton as it is more breathable down here in Florida.
I stay away from white however, light brown, dark green and obviously a few greys and blues with one black.
I have discovered that the real key is the shirts and ties.
I have probably 40 different ties and a simple change of tie color can make the entire suit look different.

Having a suit is useful, but if you don't need one right now, and you're losing weight, it seems a bit of a silly purchase. Personally I would wait until you either need one, or you're at your goal weight.

Single-breasted for sure. Invest in a nice, classic suit that you will have for a long time, so don't go for any extreme lapels or collar. Please no elbow patches. :-P

Maybe google images of Tim Gunn or Barney Stinson for inspiration? Those men know how to wear a suit!
