I don't know how much milk you drink in a day, but believe me: Milk is not the reason of getting overweight. I personally drink 1.8% milk (because it works best with my nespresso aerolatte ;)) and I only substitute it by soy milk when I feel bad after drinking milk (I don't think that I'm allergic but sometimes milk and my stomach doesn't work well together).

Really, milk is great, so just drink it and have a look on the calories in total you eat in a day. My trap are crisps and chocolate, yesterday there were about 500kcal for therese things - a small sponge cake, two small bars of chocolate and a Kinder Surprise. 500kcal I could have better left away without missing much.

There seems to be a lot of curiosity about my post. lol No I am not allergic. I am already fat or I wouldn't be here. I don't really care for Skim milk and I thought I could make a healthier choice by one of the other types of milk. Thanks everyone for your suggestions. It is much appreciated. Have a great weekend!

I do skim milk. I use to drink a cup or two of regular milk every day. I switched to 2% when my childrens doctor recommended it to cut some of the fat from their diets. I suppose that is why it wasn't so hard for me to switch to skim when I did. I was already half way there!

Have you tried 2%? If not, I would go that route for a while then try to switch to skim. Just a thought.

I wouldn't cut out milk. It provides valuable calcium and other nutrients and I wouldn't class it as an unhealthy food.

I miss milk so badly. I swore that this time when I started a diet (hopefully the last diet of my life) that I was not going to give up taste for calories. So far it is working great for me but I MISS MILK! I bought Almond milk, unsweetened and it is pretty bad. Tastes nothing like milk. I had to put a gob of Truvia in it just to get down one cup. Has anyone tried anything better. There are so many kinds out there but they are so expensive I hate to waste the money "testing" them. Thanks in advance for your help and Good Luck to us all in our journey!

    So drink milk. Problem solved.

Wow, there's a 'milk' made from everything now! lol. I prefer soy milk, personally. If you are worried about calories than get the unsweetened kind, it really brings down the numbers.
  • Skimmed milk tastes fine once you get used to it, I've been drinking it for about a year and it tastes completely normal to me now. When I first started it was a bit like drinking dish water but you soon become accustomed!! :)

Try Blue Diamond's unsweetened vanilla flavoured or chocolate flavoured almond milk. Those two are seriously amazing and don't taste as bland as plain unsweetened almond milk. Also, I try to add almond milk into cereal or substitute it into recipes..

I use this blue diamond unsweetened vanilla almond milk, and it is really good!! I use it in cereal. For years I would not eat cereal cause I couldn't handle milk of any kind, then I found this a month ago...I LOVE IT!!

Really, why should I get used to something tasting like dishwater?! I think that the point is not the 2 or 3% more fat in the milk, because in 100ml 3.5% milk there are 31.5kcal from fat - and how many liters do you drink in a day? For me it is about 200ml each day in coffee, muesli etc. This makes a difference of 24kcal each day if I would use 0.5% milk instead of 1.8%. Not that much to think of it!

Maybe it is really a cultural difference, but I try to cook from fresh food as vegetables, fresh meat, potatoes, rice and pasta, I avoid using cream in sauces, I make fries in the oven (less fat, more taste!) and I eat as less convenience food as possible. The "normal" food is never the problem, but all the extras we can't stand and the fast food as burgers, hot dogs, fries, pizza (homemade is great!) and so on. And beverages as Coke, Pepsi and so on. Drink water or unsweetened tea, and you will spare a lot more calories than from switching or skipping the milk.

If you are drinking the sweetened almond milk ... you might as well drink regular milk...

Have you ever seen the sugar and carbs and added crap in the sweetened versions!!! ughh

That said I use the unsweetened coconut milk for protien shakes... but thats because I am adding fruit and protien to it so I dont need the flavor... now I dont know if I would enjoy drinking it plain...

Cow milk has much better macros than most almond/soy/whatever milks. So just drink your regular cow's milk and enjoy it, especially when you said in your original post that you said you "weren't going to give up taste for calories."

You'll get way more protein, and similar fat and sugar levels in cow's milk compared to soy or almond milk.

see if you can get raw milk in your area from a reputable farmer. Tastes great AND is nutritionally phenomenal (way better than the pasteurized junk at the store. They take out all the good stuff on those things).

Also the stuff from the store can kill you if it goes sour. Raw milk doesn't go bad. It clabbers and turns yogurty :)

Why are you giving up milk? If you like milk then I say drink it. I like milk too, tried almond and soy milk and they just don't compare.

Just curious, why did you remove milk in the first place? Unless you have an allergy, sensitivity, or are a vegan or something, milk is very healthy and you can easily lose weight while still drinking it.

I personally like vanilla almond milk and soy milk. They certainly don't taste like cow milk though, and I've yet to encounter anything else that does. If you want milk, just drink milk.
  • Coconut milk or try a flax milk

Maybe it was the brand? I love Silk vanilla unsweetened almond milk...but I no So Delicious has a lot of residual that makes me want to barf. I didn't like coconut milk at all and was okay with soy milk until I tried almond milk. Did you try rice milk? It gave me stomach issues, but you could try that.

What brand did you try? I love Earths Own unsweetened almond milk but I don't just drink it plain. I put it in coffee, cereal, baking etc. If you miss milk and love it, just have it (unless its an allergy reason) :)
