Traveling to NYC - pick best fast food restaurants for me

So I'm going to NYC next week for work (for a week).
But I will have 1-2 days to walk around.
I will be on my own and will have limited time to eat, so I figured I might as well try the food US is really famous of - fast food.
Here in Spain we have McDonalds, Burger King, PizzaHut, KFC, Dominos pizza, Subway and Starbucks... so I'd rather not eat in any of them, also,
I have never ever in my life had a burrito or been to mexican type of fast food!
I wouldn't mind to include one fast food / fast service restaurant that is not chain one, but really famous in NYC
Suggestions please :flowerforyou:

I work in NYC but I live outside the city area.
Here is what I would HIGHLY recommend:
Go to W56 st. and 6th ave. and look for the Halal Guys. You will see a line so you can't miss. It's best if you go after drinking.
Go down to Brooklyn and look for Grimaldi's. Ask for a pizza pie. I would go with plain cheese and basil. Trust me.
If you like beer and sliders (small burgers) go down to St. Marks Place and 3rd ave. 33 St Marks Pl. It's called Mark.
I mean I can go on and on...0 -
Traveling to NYC and you want fast food picks???? Go to the restaurants, the pizza places, its NY you can have fast food anywhere.0
-
If you want mexican, you need to go to Queens cuz that is as mexican as it gets. You can even get tacos al pastor.
If you want colombian, go to Cositas Ricas. Take the 7 train to 82 St. in Jackson Heights and then look for it. Go before 11 a.m. and ask for a Calentado. 79-19 Roosevelt Avenue
If you get lost or need more suggestions, you can send me a pm.0 -
Nathans or Grey Papaya's. Get a NY HotDog from a cart! NY Pizza is a must, pretty much any place NOT in Times Sq is good.0
-
Maoz Vegetarian has great falafel sandwiches! Also the fresh squeezed juices from Gray's Papaya!0

NY has the BESSSST pizza ever, I moved from NY to NJ and no where can I find pizza as good.....Brooklyn by far has the best.0
-
The thing is with the "best" is that it's all relative. Too many people in this city. Everyone has their own opinion and there are so many places that really... I mean, really.
But for pizza, go to Grimaldi's by the Brooklyn Bridge.. Hands down. F Take the A train to High St. Get off and ask for Grimaldi. Go around 1-2p and you won't find a line. or everything else, take your pick.
Now burgers:
There's a ton of places but my favorites are:
Five Guys. 43 W55 st. It's a chain so you can probably find a few in Manhattan.
And the Shake Shack. That's in a park at E23 st. and Madison ave. That's a must IMO.0 -
Thanks guys
lots of ideas
I will map all the places and visit those that are relatively close to where I will be at the moment

I live in New York City and have never heard of anything called "Moes". No idea what it is or where it is, or why anyone would go there.
As for Chipotle, it is NOT Mexican. It is a thoroughly American restaurant chain, based in Denver, Colorado, which sells large, disgusting things it calls burritos. The meat is all cooked in Chicago and shipped nationwide, where it is assembled into large flour tortillas and sold at exorbitant prices. There is *nothing* Mexican about them except the name.
If you want true Mexican food, the best place to go is, of course, to Mexico. In New York City, the best Mexican food is found in Sunset Park, Brooklyn (known as "Little Mexico") and Jackson Heights, Queens.

However ... if you are visiting New York, you really should skip the "fast food" places and try our local specialties.
Eat from our beloved food trucks and food carts -- the prices are low and the quality is extremely high.

As for my personal recommendations, I always take visitors to:
* Vanessa's Dumplings on Eldridge Street: http://www.yelp.com/biz/vanessas-dumpling-house-new-york
* Shake Shack -- This is a chain with locations around the city. GREAT burgers and shakes. Some menu items vary by location. http://www.shakeshack.com/
* Motorino Pizza on East 12th Street: http://motorinopizza.com/
* Rice to Riches on Spring Street: http://www.yelp.com/biz/rice-to-riches-new-york0 -
I live in NY. I always take visiting friends here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Katz's_Delicatessen
Food is good and it's been in movies and television shows so it's a bit of fun, not outlandish pricing either. Everything in NY is a bit expensive, so prepare for the shock.0 -

Going to Brooklyn from Manhattan takes about 5 minutes. I know, I make the trip nearly every day.
But it really doesn't matter how long it takes, since I think she didn't like any of my suggestions anyway. Oh, well, I tried.0 -
i was thinking chipotle - can't wait to go and have a burrito
Chipotle is amazing!!!0 -
Chipotle is not real mexican but it has really great burritos. She wants something fast and that place is pretty fast. For the real thing, she needs to come down to Texas. LOL! All the good Mexican food is down here.0

I love me some chipolte! What this cooking it elsewhere stuff? I always see the meat on the grill are they just heating it up?0

Hmm...brown rice, pinto or black beans, fajita veggies, grilled marinated chicken (cooked in the restaurant, not in Chicago, the grill is in plain sight -- where did that come from??), fresh tomato salsa, red and green tomatillo salsas, grated jack cheese, shredded lettuce...pretty disgusting I'd say. 630 calories, 21g fat if you skip the big flour tortilla and sour cream. Lots of sodium, of course. But very filling for $6.75 here in Maryland. Not saying it's Mexican, but it is real food and you can do much worse and spend a lot longer doing it. Have you ever been to one?0 -

Totally agree on the Halal guys. They were voted as the #1 street vendor in the city some years ago. The line is usually a 45 minute wait, but you can't really get anything like it outside of NYC.
Grimaldi's was good, but if you're short on time and don't want to go to Brooklyn, there are comparable places in the city. Haven't been to Mark's.
As for Moe's, I've seen it outside of NY, but yeah, it hasn't made it there yet. Chipotle's okay, but I agree with some of the other people - try the places that aren't fast-food chains!0 -

There is not a 45 mins wait at the halal guys. I've never waited more than 15 mins. Unless you go at lunch time. And now they have carts in all 4 corners. People are retarded and don't realize that all 4 are the same. So just go to the one with no line. And if you go, make sure you get the WHITE sauce!0 -
I also forgot to mention the food trucks! They are relatively new(a few years) to the city and they are picking up. My favorite are the ones on 4th ave and 9th street (I think, I can't remember if it's 9 street or st. Marks)...
The Mexican truck on 9th ave and W14th st is frikin amazing! I've been to Mexico several times and it's as close as it will get in Manhattan.
If you can't get to Grimaldi's for pizza then any pizza will do, but it won't be brick oven.0 -
Forget all those chains. Hit a nice mom and pops pizza place. I always go to the Pizzeria on the corner of Lefferts and Far Rockaway in Queens. It's not famous or anything but it is what I grew up on delicious.0
-
New York City- on your own time go to some of the best restaurants and maybe see a show or a museum. Fast food is everywhere. New York City restaurants are only in Manhattan and neighboring vicinity. Enjoy! It's an incredible city!0
-
Not sure I'd focus on Pizza coming from Spain (as seems to be lots of decent pizza there too), however if I was in NY, I'd definitely be looking for some fast food to indulge in.
Offers more of a 'taste of the city' than a nice restaurant, which can be found in any big city anywhere in the world to my mind.
Maybe I've been watching a bit too much Man vee food and that new one where some British bloke goes around said 'food trucks' .0 -
Kat'z Deli is another good spot. Pastrami sandwich!!!!
It's on Houston St. and Ludlow. You might have to order two.0 -
Food Carts/Food Trucks.
Don't waste your time with crappy fast food0 -
I agree with the food trucks...
Some of the best ethnic cuisine would be in Queens.0
