arm fat

I started my journey in May and have lost 66 pounds so far and am very happy with myself as I continue. However I have this ungodly arm fat that I cant seem to budge. Anyone have any tips on how to tighten that up?

You can't spot reduce and you can't "tighten up" fat. You can lose fat and build muscle. Your only option for reducing that fat is through continued diet and exercise to promote fat loss. As you become leaner in general and more fit, you will see a reduction in the fat on your arms as well as the rest of your body.

I also have the same problem. I have very flabby arms but through strength training I have seen a small decrease. I am working on building all over muscle and eventually I hope to have better arms. I have been consistently lifting for 4 months so at this rate it will take a LONG time but I'm okay with that.

She's right, as frustrating as it is. I have the same issue, I have larger, more flabby arms than woman who are much larger than I am. Hate it with a passion, but all I can do is keep losing and hope that, eventually, my body will decide to get rid of that fat too.

    ^^^ This

    and push-ups and pull-ups

ETA: I didn't lose even a smidge from my arms until I started the 30 Day shred. Just in 3 weeks, I've lost an inch and a half from my arms.

One thing to keep in mind is that with rapid weight loss some of the underarm flab may be loose skin.

The only suggestion I have mirrors others. Strength training & fat reduction.

If it is skin maybe some collagen-infused lotion to help the elasticity of the skin? No clue at all, honestly!

    It's all about calories.

If you lift weights you need to do an all body workout or you will become unbalanced.

Losing fat is all about calories.

Losing weight requires tremendous patience. You will not lose it when you want it or where you want it. The body does its thing. Some apparent plateaus can last a month or so. You cannot make it happen faster. You must focus on two things; calories and exercise. Nothing else matters. Scales and metrics don't matter. The day in and day out grind of exercise and calories are all that matters. It is not very exciting until things fall into place. You get your victories and you ride one victory to the next.

Exercise is for making your lean body mass pretty (especially lifting weights) for when the fat is gone. Losing fat with no muscle is ugly and cardio alone will not make you pretty. You cannot out exercise too many calories.

90% diet 10% exercise anybody tells you any different doesnt have a clue what they are talking about...

what you basically have to do is get leaner so continue to eat properly with your lean proteins and green veggies and continue your strength training

Sure, but it's the truth. I get tired of hearing a lot of "same old" posts, but that doesn't make it less true.

Weightlifting does actually help the shape of your arms, even if you have fat to lose. Obviously there is no way to reduce fat off your arms specifically, but it really would help to build muscle in that area

are you talking about under arm wiggle? triceps dips. push ups, etc will help with that. I have been doing all kinds of arm exercises the last 6 months or so, and I am seeing a change.

While this is very, very true (and funny) it isn't too helpful. Still, +1

Check out the New Rules of Lifting for Women, Stronglifts, or just search the groups around here. But yes, the solution to your arm flab is weight training and fat loss. Simple!

Time, patience, and as unpopular as it is to some people, strength training. I was VERY disappointed when I got to my original goal weight and still had my mama pouch and under arm wings. Everyone said to strength train, so I begrudgingly gave it a shot. I don't necessarily like it, but it is working, as promised. Also, remember that your skin is an organ. Give it enough time, and it will eventually shrink, provided you don't yo-yo with your weight. And that's an unpopular answer, too. People are going to be pissed that I said that. However, the people that swear that "some people" are destined to keep their extra skin (like mama pouches- and yes I've had a c-section), are not lean. I have yet to see pictures of someone who has worked hard enough to get to a reasonable body fat % and has a big ol' pouch or wings. We can do this, it's not impossible!

I guess one person's "snarky" is another's "humorous truth."
