Its just normal for me not to eat between 7pm and 7am. I have dinner before 6pm and then I exercise first thing in the morning so breakfast is always after that at around 7.

yes, i often do IF but with a 16/8 window.
  • I try and not eat after 7, that way i don't get hit with heartburn in the middle of the night. I normaly don't eat till after 8 the next morning.

That type of guideline really makes things easier, especially when you become accustomed to it.

A lot of people who struggle with their weight do so because of a tendency to eat too frequently or frivolously. Setting a time limit makes a person more likely to space out their meals mindfully, and not reach for a bag of chips at 11pm when their favorite late night show is on. It's a good habit to build. I follow a similar pattern now without even trying. My first meal is usually at 10/11, and my last is around 7. I rarely eat afterwards & it also lets me sleep better/wake up feeling better. I'm so used to it now that even if I get a bit hungry at like 9, it won't bother me to wait until breakfast the next day.

A study that was aired about a year or two basically said the problem with eating after, say 9 pm, is not eating but what you eat. They took people and said after 9 pm this group does not eat, this group eats what they want and this group eats healthy controlled foods, (not amounts), and they found the group that ate heathy was losing about the same pace as the non-eaters but the unhealthy eaters gained due to the calorie intake.

From a common sense approach from what I have learned thru dieticians if you starve your body it will decrease metabolism and can cause you body to store up fat to have an emergency energy source.

This report says that fat burning is best if you have a 12 hour period where you don't eat. This article suggestes 8 p.m. to 8 a.m.

    Do you agree?

    Article Quote:

This could have major consequences for your weight and health—and mean you can snack more and weigh less. In a study just published in Cell Metabolism, Panda's research team found that mice that ate a high-fat diet spread out over the day and night became obese and diabetic, while mice eating the same diet but only over an eight-hour period didn't gain any weight and remained healthy. "Fasting at night can even override most of the negative effects of an unhealthy diet," Panda says, "including weight gain."

Yes--I agree! I saw a chubby woman years ago--slim down ot a size 4 simply from not eating after 7pm---is what she said

Being on MFP and finding the IF group---and the results they get empowered me to try. Immediately the wall I had hit embarking on the weight loss journey shifted.

It's been a steady one-pound-a-week weight loss ever since. My eating window is 1-7pm...or even 5pm....during the weight loss period. I probably will go to 11am-7pm during maintenance. Not only that I am slowly practicing ESE
(eat stop eat) which is a 24 hour fast for one or two days a week.. That's eating the last meal at 7pm and having the next meal at 7pm the next day.

Sometimes though--the body wants --what it wants --when it wants...:blushing:
And I listen, heed, and obey :drinker:

Meal timing is irrelevant. It's about calories in vs calories out. IF or intermittent fasting is just one pattern of eating which helps some stick to calorie adherence. It's personal preference whether someone eats 3-4 400 calorie meals, 2 800 calorie meals or 1 1600 calorie meal.

I personally do a form of this because I prefer bigger meals.
