Is this a common practice where you live?
Here the trick or treaters knock on the door. Home owner comes out. Distributes candy at their discretion and then they all wave and say goodbye.
I've never seen someone just leave their candy outside like that.0 -
What horrible people. Is it usual to just leave a bowl outside your house? I thought they had to come to your door and say "trick or treat"?0

I remember one time trick or treating as a child-the owner had an emergency and so just left her big bowl of candy on the front porch with a note asking to "just take one" of course by the time my brothers and I got to her house the bowl was still there but empty :laugh:0
-
It's pretty messed up to act that way. But, it is kind of odd to just leave a bowl outside, full of candy. That was asking for trouble. :ohwell:0

Yes, really. Not for justice, just for fun.0 -
That's why older kids shouldn't go trick or treating, in this day and age they've lost all common sense and respect by the time their 15. Not ALL kids, but many of them anyway.0

Happened to us last year when we left a big basket of candy outside because we couldn't be home to hand it out. The basket ended up on a neighbor's fence post a few days later so I have to think it was someone locally in the neighborhood. I won't do it again though. If we're not home then there'll be no candy at all.0

Lots of people here leaves the bowls outside too. I did it one yr when I wanted to give out candy but take my kids out as well.
I stayed home with the baby this yr and handed out candy and I will never do it again. I had like 20 lil kids...and like 20 people between the ages of 15 and 30 NO LIE! like they werent even dressed up...just normal clothes and pillow cases.
What happened to halloween0 -
For crying out loud, they're NOT horrible people. They're CHILDREN who are not being supervised!0

Yup. Small, age appropriate, trick or treaters wouldn't have done that. Some of them looked like they were waaaaaaaaaaaayyy too big to be out. LOL0 -

Uh... duh. C'mon, you can't be too lazy to open the door properly and complain when people just come by and take everything.
You're giving off the signal of 'I can't be bothered to do this but I feel socially obligated to leave candy out.' and get angry when what exactly was going to happen actually happens.
Growing up I would have been a kid who nervously took 2-3 pieces and after I left, looked back to see a kid grabbing handfuls and stuffing them into their bag moments later. It's not all how a kid is raised, by leaving out a bowl you basically are saying 'I don't really care.'
Even in the 1950's kids would have ravaged an unattended bowl.
Edit: And if you're not going to be home, just don't leave candy. Haha... uh... so... you were going to record all the kids getting candy and uh......... watch it later after you got home from work?
Uh...while eating popcorn in the dark? Do you have lots of videos like this because I'd like you to have a seat right over here....0 -
Can you imagine when the one gets home, dumps the candy for inspection, and out drops a bowl? That's hilarious.0

True! I am sure my kids would have taken an extra piece, but they would NOT have taken the bowl too! My kids know how I am about my bowls. Taking candy is one thing, but the bowl too? WTF!? :laugh:0 -
Holy chit, batman! Somebody deserves an *kitten* whoopin'!!0

I hadn't thought of that! But I can see it now:
Kid: *dumps bag - bowl falls out*
Mom: WHO THE FRICK GAVE YOU A BOWL? What an idiot!!!!0 -

They looked to be of age to know right from wrong. Taking all the candy? Not criminal but rude. Taking the bowl? Stealing and they should know better at their ages.Uh... duh. C'mon, you can't be too lazy to open the door properly and complain when people just come by and take everything.
A lot of people do this, so that they can take their kids ToTing but still leaving something for the other kids to get. Sure some may be lazy but not all.0
