What do you all do when you're dieing on the inside physically rumbling but you know you can't eat yet or you've already met your daily caloric needs?

eat something. No diet is worth being miserable. If you do that you are more likely to become resentful and quit the diet. Have popcorn or fruit or something healthy like that.0

If you're eating all of your calories and you're still hungry you may eating nutritionally empty foods. Try eating better quality foods.0

First off...drink some water. Our bodies send out the same signals for thirst as it does for hunger. If you are still hungry after a few minutes, then deffinately eat something. doesn't ahve to be a lot, and doesn't have to be high calories either. raw veggies are a safe, smart bet that won't add too many cals if that is your worry. A piece of fruit, couple of crackers and slice of cheese. Just don't sit and eat an entire meal when youve got the munchies.0

I met my caloric needs of 1300 calories with two protein shakes with 2% milk, 5 egg whites in a wheat wrap with lettuce and ketchup, and 3 cans of tuna no mayo but i'm just starving at night.. i try to sleep but sometimes i can't. I used to wrestle so i know what it's like to feel hungry and it's not like i'm in crippling pain but i feel like there's gotta be something i can do that takes away the hunger. When i wrestled i used to chew tabbacco but i stopped for obvious reasons. It did wonders tho i was NEVER hungry. Are there any healthy alternatives?0

There is no way 1300 calories is what you should eat! I'm 3 times older, work out way less and am female and I eat 1400-1950 a day!! Eat more please. You'll not look good if you are starved and you need the fuel to have muscles.0

I am glad you mentioned this because although I laughed at the topic it feels like that at times.
I try and just eat really good food to fill up and avoid junk. That helps and sometimes like hot
drinks like swiss miss hot chocolate or hot tea with honey. It doesnt always work and I just want
to eat a big meal but really a small amount of something will take the edge off. Even if its like
an apple with peanut butter. Protein seems to make the hunger stay away longer too I have found. But
its definitely been hard for me to lose weight cuz I seem to be always hungry and wanting to eat more.
Stay away from refined sugar as much as possible because that seemed to act as an appetite stimulant
for alot of people. Gosh I should take my own advice.....Hmmmm0 -

first of all, why are you trying to eat at a 1000 calorie per day deficit? your sedentary BMR is somewhere around 2300. you're feeling hungry because you ARE hungry. 6'0" and 169lbs and you're trying to lose 2lbs per week?? you don't have alot of fat to lose as it is and that's why your body is telling you to eat more. add 500 calories to your daily intake. problem solved.0 -

1300 calories can't be enough for you. I weigh 127 and am losing weight with eating 1300 calories a day with doing minimal exercise. Please up your calories a little and you will feel a lot better! Mfp told me to eat 1200 but I just can't do it.0

It doesn't seem fair to have to eat less and feel a little hunger. It's hard to face the truth of it, very hard. It's not fun. It's drudgery at times. But if you learn to enjoy your smaller amounts of food (necessary to lose weight, since the reason we got fat in the first place was eating too much whether we knew it or not), and rejoice in your victories it can be done.
Being on a calorie deficit is hard. You can't do this journey on will power alone. You must set up your environment for success. Have a team around you in your real life, not just online. Get trigger foods out of the house. It will take some sacrifice and it's not easy. You might have to say no to some social events sometimes.
Too many changes at once can be hard on some people. I've always eaten healthy so it easy for me to simply eat less. Eating at a calorie deficit is hard on people; even a small deficit puts your body in a state of flux with hormones and such. Everyone is different. Some people can handle a deeper calorie deficit than others, this is not right or wrong, it just is. Stress in your life affects your hunger hormones; lack of sleep, fatigue, job stress, family stress, financial stress, etc. Add in emotional eating issues and it gets even more complicated. Most people can only handle so much change/stress at once, they try to do too much and fail. Sometimes it might be a better strategy to eat at maintenance and make some small changes first, it really depends on how much stress you are taking in at the moment.
for me it's all about a calorie budget. I had less of a budget available when I was losing weight, more to spend now that I'm maintaining and all the tools I used for weight loss come into play for the rest of my life maintaining.
When you have accumulated excess fat, you have accumulated a debt. It is hard to pay off the debt (you have less calories to spend). If you are sitting next to someone your same gender and height and they are not overweight and you are, they get to eat more than you (have more calories to spend) because they are debt free. You have less calories to spend because you are paying off your debt.
I am debt free and I never want to go into debt ever again. The process is hard, and maintaining takes effort as well. Every thing you do now to learn to deal with the hardship of getting fit come into play for staying fit. Whenever i eat close to 1800-2000 calories i always gain weight rapidly. I think my metabolism is rediculously slow even though i work out because of how much my weight used to rapidly lose and gain in wrestling.0

Unless you're on the last couple of weeks working towards a Fitness Competition (which, in my opinion, is incorrectly named, btw), you seem to have forgotten any carbs! I agree, I think you're shooting yourself in the foot by going too low on the daily calories . . .0 -

Eat a MINIMUM of 1800 calories, lift weights, and hit your macros.

Why are you only eating 1300 calories? I eat 1300 every day and call it "dinner"0

I was eating over 2400 calories and was always looking for something to eat. Once I got on here I started to eat better. I didn't change my meals just my snacks. Now I can eat only 1200-1250 calories a day and because I eat Fruit as a snack I'm not hungry all the time and I'm losing weight my blood pressure is even better.0

Eat more! You're 18. You still have growth potential for the next couple of years... 1300 calories isn't a lot to fuel growth. And when you increase your calorie intake your weight will go up... especially if you go from low/no carbs to even moderate carbs as you will retain more glycogen and water in your muscles. Your weight stabilizes after 2-3 days of eating at the higher level.0

Looks like perhaps you may need to increase vegetable input. More whole foods and perhaps back off on the protein shakes. That is likely where the bulk of your calories are coming from; I am big into protein and ensuring that your protein needs are met for muscle maintenance BUT there are other nutrients that are important as well. Vegetables offer more bang for your buck calorically... They are not calorie dense so you can eat more of them and not meet the calorie goals. Greens, lettuce, tomatoes, and even beans (good protein source as well as fiber) will offer a lot more bulk of food but not make you go over in calories.0 -

Something about a nice big serving of your favorite steamed veggie seems to round out a day worth of eating...makes you feel satisfied. I even eat steamed veggies for breakfast, along with my scrambled eggs and greek yogurt.:)

At your age, height and activity level you should be closer to 3000, not 1300. That's why you are hungry. Eat something or you could lose your teeth, hair, manhood etc.0 -
Part of it can just be a wrestler mentality too. I have seen them eat only oranges for a few DAYS before a meet. Rough stuff!
But I agree with everyone else that you need to eat more. I am 20 years old, 5 ft 3 and maintain my weight at around 2700 calories because I am so active and my lifestyle is that of a typical young student!
