Would you chip your kids?

I mean in the same way that we chip our pets, but with the possibility of GPS...would you do it on your own kids?

I would in a heart beat, even if that makes me sound like paranoid mum, and only to be used in extreme circumstances (though the potential for abuse of this is all over it of course) and I would be happy for them to remove it at 18...

What are your opinions?

They have watches & bracelets now for kids....less invasive I think haha

I will totally have a family tracker on my daughter's phone once she's old enough to have one....

I would do that, I wouldn't implant one into her body though.

See my fear comes more from kidnapping fears etc...not to track in every day life, but in the insane chance that something happened..I would consider jewelery, but it can be removed.

we have had a recent random kidnapping here, and it has just made me think.

Yea, I can see that ... however implanting a GPS in children for their "safety" would quickly send us, as a nation, down a very dangerous slippery slope

Justa thought....lil stud ear-rings ....unless they're gawdy criminals don't notice stud earrings

lol yes hubs and I were just talking about the same thing...would need something for a boy too.

I can understand that chipping can have the possibilities to be disastrous on a large scale if it becomes a government run program, and as a parent you could take advantage of it it horrible ways...but if it could be done private and not connected to any thing other than my husband an I, then I would do it!

In my county, the Sherriff's office has a program to provide ankle bracelets for special needs kids upon request; very popular program.

I don't implant anything in my pets. So why would I in my children? I think it's cruel and mean when there's other forms out there that can be used and easily taken off without surgery or implanting something in the skin.

I'll just lock my kids in the basement until they're 18, eliminate all risks.

    100% YES.

I plan on doing everything I can to keep her safe.... She's 4 and I worry all the time now...
If she has something that can help me find her if she was lost, I would totally do it.

This is a great idea, for any child actually. :)

    You being serious OP?

Yeah I can't see how emphasizing installing chips into our children could backfire horribly.

    Good night sweet individual rights.

No, while it might come in handy in the extreme circumstance, there are too many possibilities of others getting access and of carcinogens, etc.

I'm not a parent but I see enough little ones on leashes out in public that I think this idea isn't too far-fetched.

I've got a special needs kit that, at one time, was a runner. I'd chip him.

I don't even have my dog chipped. Treat people (and animals) well and they're likely to come back and/or listen to you. That's my philosophy. In the case of teenagers? Find a cell phone for them with GPS in it, they'll never let it leave their pocket anyway.

I have Find My Phone on my son's iPhone, and there's a GPS tracking chip in his car that texts me if he's speeding or if he goes somewhere at that he's not supposed to. It also shows me a map where he is at any given time. I wouldn't embed one in his body though.

I'd use a shock collar if it was legal. not really...but pretty funny mental imagery.

I went to a lunch today where I was the client and the partner on the engagement joked about using a shock collar on his audit counterpart. I laughed. My manager looked horrified.

As for chipping kids...probably not (though I don't have kids yet). I'd rather just give them a cellphone that I'm sure will by that time be practically mandatory for preschoolers and track that. Judging by kids these days, it'd be almost equally effective.
