Sodas

I love Dr. Pepper. I drink it all the time. Today when I realized I had to start counting my calories, I realized that at 250 calories a bottle, I'd rather have tasty food instead. I turned down the soda for my diet. I'm proud of myself, but miss my Dr. Pepper.

It's sounds like you made the right choice. I'm usually put off soda by reading the ingredients.0

Great job!0

I think if you keep at it, you'll eventually stop missing it. I haven't had soda in over 8 months. I quit wanting it. Food is much better!!0

Good for you. Soda(not diet) has gotten too thick and terribly sweet since I was a young kid.
Can't even drink it without feeling gross.0 -
It could be a once in a while treat or maybe go diet instead...0
-
You can still have one every once in a while. Just budget for it in your calories by either a good workout or only drink half the bottle at once.0

Nice job!!!0

My husband switched to sodas made with Stevia instead of sugar to fix his soda cravings. He hates diet soda, but like natural sodas. It has helped a lot.0

I haven't had a soda in two months since I started my diet - only have drank water and some juice here and there and feel a million times better. I didn't drink it a lot before, though, so I might not be the best person to reply to this.0

I've had to cut out sodas altogether, I have candida, so any form of sugar, unless its stevia, is bad for me, also any caffeine is bad since it inhibits my liver function to battle my stupid condition. i do miss bubbles though once in a while, so i have mineral water. Diet Dr. Pepper was my favorite diet drink though!! barely tastes diet!0

Decisions, decisions. There will be days when Dr. Pepper wins, just stay on track. You can do it!!0

That was a very smart move Carrie! (Wow that's a lot of dr.pepper lol I myself drunk 3 sodass a day and no water before my calorie counting which I thought wasn't too bad but that was until the gut started sticking out )
Just because your on this journey to lose weight it doesn't hurt to have a can once a week (That's what I do )
An I'm still losing weight its just now I drink a lot more water and crystal light because of it lol0 -
I definitely don't like drinking my calories, but do like my caffeine - so am happy with coke zero, which I've used to over the years.
Would prefer to keep it for special occasions like exercise etc - but then a good proportion of the western world has a caffeine addiction, so don't feel too bad about it!0 -

Agreed. I used to drink 4-6 cans of Dr. Pepper a day. I thought I'd never be able to give it up but when I started having anxiety issues, I thought maybe giving up caffeine would help. This was before I started trying to lose weight and I lost 10 lbs JUST by giving up the soda. I still have it every now and then (probably one every 2 weeks) but I don't crave it like I used to.0 -

Same here! I was drinking almost 800 calories a day.....no wonder why I wasn't losing any weight0

Zevia and Blue Sky Free are both made with Stevia. Some are pretty good, some are downright awful. I like the Zevia cream soda and the Blue Sky Free cherry vanilla cream.0

That's great! I was so addicted to soda/Caffeine and candy for the longest time. I've been on here for just over 6 months and this is day 11 of my NO Soda/Caffeine/Candy change. I feel so much better, of course i still crave it occasionally, but i've been having carbonated water or some carbonated juice, just so i get the bubbles. I think that's what i loved the most....Bubbles, and Sour Gummy candies. So, carbonated water (sometimes) and more fruit for my sour fix. . I believe it'll get easier as time goes by.0

I still drink my soft drink but I have changed to Coke Zero. Drinking water sometimes doesn't go with what I'm eating...0

Good job. Diet Dr, Pepper is pretty good or Walmart's Diet Dr. Thunder - I love that stuff, its their generic Dr. Pepper but better lol. But try to give up sodas if you can and try more water, teas and coffee (unsweetened), and crystal light. I went through a HUGE crystal light phase, buying every flavor I saw and buying them in individual packets - some I like, some I hated, and some I loved. I always kept some packets with me in my purse so I could always add them into my water for a quick taste drink.0

I've been off sodas since starting MFP too, 105 days, went to chipotle today and I got water because I wanted it, not soda, odd experience for me, first time that's happened.0

just by cutting out the soda and drinking water you will lose. So great job! Avoid sugary sodas and sport drinks (watch how soon u will get to the weight you want to be at). For added taste in ur water add a lemon. You can also get flavored water with no sodium and no calories... watch out for aspartme (gives most people a headache).0

I love Diet Dr. Pepper! Probably should give up pop all together, but I don't see that happening anytime soon. I enjoy the sweet taste with out the side affect of calories.0

I miss Dr.Pepper and also root beer. I've had one soda since April, and it was a no name terrible tasting one that I got for free on a very hot day after carrying in a 70lb piece of scrap metal to a dealer. I've I'd had water with me, I might have declined.
At one time in my life I used to drink 2 a day in summer, one year a lot more while I was working for Coke and got all I could drink.
Dr. Pepper and tacos - sigh0 -
Prior to starting my new life style I drank proably 8 - 10 Mt. Dews (full bolwn regular) a day. 2000 - 2500 calories a day just in soda. I drink just as much now but they are all diet. I hated it when I switched you get so used to it i prefer it now. I snuck a drink of my kids soda recently and it seems so much sweeter than I remember. Go diet and loose the calories. Yopu can have you cake and eat it too! I recently asked a dietitian recently the negative effects of diet soda. She tells me that the only negative effects that it takes the place of the water you should be getting. So make sure you are getting your water too!0

Yup, although my every once in awhile is still one a day. But I went from drinking at least 2 64oz dr peppers to one can. I hate the taste of artificial sweeteners so diet never worked for me. I just work it in. I've been trying to get up the courage to cut it out completely, but I haven't made it there yet.
Good job! I know how hard it can be.0 -

Which sodas are made with stevia? I'd love to try that.0 -
I rarely have pre-made sodas anymore, when I go out to eat I get either water or sweet tea. I do indulge in a cherry limeade from Sonic every now and again, I suppose that's technically a soda since most of them use Sprite now instead of soda water and lime squeezings.
I tried to make my own vanilla creme soda syrup to go with the Sodastream I bought a couple of years ago, but I've never managed to find the balance between flavor, sweetness and syrup concentration that I like. I did, however, make some awesome homemade vanilla extract using tequila instead of vodka or light rum.
Of course, small-batch sodas and root/ginger/birch beers/sarsaparillas are a weakness of mine, the best are always made with either cane sugar or agave. Have yet to come across a "diet" root beer that was worth drinking.0 -
I started off drinking diet soda etc but after doing the Sugar Free September challenge and cutting all refined sugars out of my diet, i found the artificial sweeteners taste weird. So now I drink water, sparkling mineral water, coffee (only one or two a day) and green tea. And of course a glass of champagne 3 or 4 days a week. Because chamnpagne doesnt count, right?0
