Stress headstand, huh? I like it. My mom used to do headstands a lot when I was growing up - she was convinced that they were good for her in a variety of ways.
We probably need to play more with our younger kitty - our two cats have never gotten along since we adopted the younger one, and she tends to attack the older one. It's mostly just play, but it makes me feel both mad and guilty because we love our older cranky cat and knew she wouldn't really want another animal in the house. They just both seem to want to be single kitties. The Feliway plugins don't really help as far as I can tell.
Ugh, sorry about your bad day, V - I hope not too much damage was done. And MM, I hope the holes that mattered got closed up.

Work was super busy before all the layoffs, and it certainly hasn't lightened up any - but I am getting on with it and just trying to do what I can do. It helps that I am pretty good friends with a couple of my co-workers and most days we take a walk after lunch and chat about things. Friday is definitely a relief, though!

Today I mostly relaxed with my husband. I did finish week 5 of pushups at level 3 - yeah! - and did 3 minutes in plank pose a while later. Whee! Then we went out for Korean food - yum! Tomorrow morning I am going to the gym for another run. This will be the first time I've run twice in a week in a long while - and I'm thinking of increasing that to 3x to start training for the half marathon. Technically I don't need to start training for a few months since the race is in September - I've seen training programs anywhere from 9 to 16 weeks - but I'm thinking of treadmill running as sort of working my way up to actual road running. And I still have a lot of things to figure out (how to keep my toes from blistering/bruising, how much I should or can eat/drink before and after, if I should do any strength training for my knees, etc.) I might also do a 10K in May just to have a race experience. (By the way - how crazy is it that I'm even talking about this? My husband was pointing out to me last weekend that for years, running was the thing that I absolutely hated and feared the most, that I said I could never do. It's kinda like what you said in your blog, V - I wish I could show myself 3 years ago what I'd be capable of now. Who knew?)

    Amazing ourselves, boogaloo. :flowerforyou:

I would start training now. Get the injuries over with

I need to figure out what I'm making for the week. I enjoy running errands during the superbowl - no one is around - it's like Christmas, though I can't think of any I need to do. I will also get a yoga session in then, since husband is going to watch it with friends. I'll get a walk in this morning.

Oh, I want to get a pair of those shoes that aren't shoes. I think they are called five finger shoes (really dumb name - five toe shoes makes sense, five finger? - isn't that a slang word for shop lift - a five finger discount). They are supposed to feel like walking without shoes, but they protect your feet. Anyway, that would be fun to do tonight. http://www.vibramfivefingers.com/

    New shoes, boogaloo!

    Hi pebbs,

Today is a day off from working out. Just had my treat meal for the week (it involved fried chicken...this is something I do about twice a year, and after heavy research into where it's worth it.). For the rest of the day it's relaxing.

I'm very curious about the vibrams, too, Mary. If you get them, please report back.

I've read a little bit about barefoot running, and the Vibrams. I like the idea, but I'm not sure how to get there... I tend to have pain even walking around barefoot, and you may remember I injured my foot a year or so ago just by dancing barefoot. It felt like the bones spread out in a way they weren't supposed to. When I was trail running over the summer, I sometimes wrapped my arches in tape to sort of hold them together; I felt more secure that way. So, if you have any clues for how someone could strengthen their feet - I'd be interested! I have started trying to run a little more on the middle/front part of my foot instead of landing on my heel, though I feel like it strains my Achilles and the bottom/outside of my foot more. I am hoping that doing what I'm doing, as long as it doesn't hurt, will eventually help my feet get stronger.

Today I decided to do a slow run. I read something that suggested keeping the heart rate closer to 65% or so on longer runs when you're trying to build distance (I can't remember exactly, nor can I find the reference again). There's no way I could run and have my heart rate stay that low (123?!) - it's usually in the 160s-170s when I'm running. But, I was able to pretty much keep it under 160 today, and under 150 for about half of it - running at 5.5mph steady for just over 5 miles. I'll take it.

Super Bowl Sunday, boogaloo - whether you're enjoying the game or the quiet.
