Poop, there it is.
cleansed.
But...but...
...what about the pounds of material that builds up on your intestine walls?
...what about the toxins? (Don't ask me which toxins...just ALL TEH TOXINS!!1!1)
...what about the heavy (and not-so-heavy) metals?

Dr. Oz is full of lies. Do you actually believe him? He's not a God like some people like to view him as.0

I am so excited to see that you completed this. I have started it today, for my health and to get rid of the toxins, in MY system. I can not believe all the negative responses you received on here. GOOD JOB and thanks to your reporting I am looking forward to completing this.0

Saw this detox/cleanse and thought, what could be bad about consuming approximately 1400 calories of healthy fruits, vegetables, and fats? Seems to me that by using a blender to pulverize the food you retain all the nutrients AND fiber, so you are not just living off juice for three days. Today is day 3 and so far this has helped to calm cravings, improve digestion, and break plateau. Spacing out the four smoothies and maintaining my water intake keeps me full and I do not feel deprived. Did I get rid of toxins? I don't know, but my energy level is good and I'm still able to complete daily exercise program. The only drawback for me is that I miss chewing my food (especially meat) but that is something I can deal with for three days.0

Well 3rd day of the cleanse is done. Feel good, energized to start eating healthy and get rid of processed food.
Agreed everyone has their own opinion on cleanses but it did get me into a routine.I am a constant snacker and this made me not snack.
Lost 2.5 lbs which I feel good about.
Good for you and thanks for posting.0 -
I'm not here to argue with people, to prove a point or to push an agenda other than to encourage this person who is trying to be healthy. I'm here for support and to provide it for others, my message was directed toward the person who is doing the cleanse. I am appalled how people attack one another on these message boards.0

My 3 days are done and I feel pretty great. I lost 6 pounds and about 1inch off of my lower belly. It was a learning experience. I learned that I probably have a small intolerance to dairy since there is absolutely no dairy in the 3 shakes. I usually eat cottage cheese and greek yogurt on a normail basis. However since I withheld those 3 days my stomach bloat went completely down leaving a perfectly flat stomach. I will not hesitate to do this again whenever I need to jumpstart my weighloss again.0

I see a lot of people have negative opinions about the cleanse, but the way I look at it is Dr. Mark Hyman a reasonably reputed author was endorsing this cleanse . Everyone has to transition from being unhealthy to healthy and this is a good bridge. Just like one cannot stop smoking, drinking instantaneously one has to be weaned off. Even children wean as an infant. To restrict grains, dairy, sugar ,salt takes gradual weaning and I feel this cleanse is a great jumpstart to reduce junk food eating and into a healthy lifestyle.
Day 2 of the cleanse the increased energy and clarity is present.Feeling extremely light I am sure have lost weight. I had trouble going up and down stairs and today it seemed easy.
Definetly it is what I am not eating which is making me feel well and truly this cleanse I would recommend .
How is this "weaning"? It goes from one extreme to another.0 -

I decided to search to see if anyone else was doing this cleanse and my results/feelings are pretty much aligned with yours. I am surprisingly NOT hungry doing this plan. The kale is crazy filling and in fact, the lunch shake yields enough for 2 servings and I can barely finish the one. I'm on day 2 and am glad I decided to embark on this. I have plateaued for the last few months and this plan is just the kick I needed to get back on track. Plus with all the damage I did on thanksgiving...good lordy, I needed this!
Sidenote, I was also able to sustain an intense hour of strength training (800+cals burned).0 -

I attempted to start the cleanse yesterday since it focused on whole foods & included healthy fats and a good number of calories. However, after the second shake, I couldn't take the taste anymore! It was awful! How do you get past it & actually finish the drinks? I might need to modify it and try again.0

Or...
...maybe there is a better way.
Perhaps you could just eat the foods?0 -

Just eat whole foods and healthy fats instead of shakes0 -
Dr. Oz is a promoter of unproven "medicine" and pseudoscience. Anybody who critically looks into his promotions dismisses them/him.The Media Pigasus Award goes to Dr. Mehmet Oz, who has done such a disservice to his TV viewers by promoting quack medical practices that he is now the first person to win a Pigasus two years in a row. Dr. Oz is a Harvard-educated cardiac physician who, through his syndicated TV show, has promoted faith healing, "energy medicine," and other quack theories that have no scientific basis. Oz has appeared on ABC News to give legitimacy to the claims of Brazilian faith healer “John of God,” who uses old carnival tricks to take money from the seriously ill. He's hosted Ayurvedic guru Yogi Cameron on his show to promote nonsense "tongue examination" as a way of diagnosing health problems. This year, he really went off the deep end. In March 2011, Dr. Oz endorsed "psychic" huckster and past Pigasus winner John Edward, who pretends to talk to dead people. Oz even suggested that bereaved families should visit psychic mediums to receive (faked) messages from their dead relatives as a form of grief counseling.

Being asked for citations to back up an assertion you made is hardly an attack.0 -

!!!! this
This bears repeating.
I don't think anyone's listening but these cleanses are NOT necessary. Dr. Oz is pulling your leg and not doing you any favors. For all that's good, learn how eat properly, be more active and watch the weight come off the good old fashioned, sustainable way.0 -
What exactly are you "cleansing"? Do you not have a working colon, stomach, kidney, or liver?
Exactly! Give your body credit. It works hard to keep you "clean" and doesn't need help.0 -
UGH!!! The Lunch drink is awful!!! I mean, it's not horrible, but just the mix of the celery with the cucumber bluuuuuhhhh! Not looking forward to lunch in 2 hours!!!0

I'm open to trying new things, and it's only three days. I'm doing this on the weekend, because I didn't want to be at work with unpleasant side effects, in case my system is not used to this. If there's a good smoothie recipe, I figure I can add it to my collection, since I usually blend up some fruit and yogurt for breakfast anyway.
I just tried the breakfast drink, and it was pretty good. I accidentally put in double the spinach because I made it in half batches (my blender is small). I tend to gobble my food, so I think it's good for my digestion to blend it up for a change. I think it is flushing out something because my #2 was more than normal (I'm sorry if this is too much info), and I've peed twice in two hours. Result? 1.5 pounds lighter after only the first drink! I really wasn't expecting that much. Since I accidentally doubled up on the spinach in the morning, I think I'll halve the veg in the lunch one, since I've been hearing that the lunch one isn't particularly yummy.
I guess even if you don't approve of cleanses, you have to admit, the discipline required to see this kind of thing through is the same kind of discipline that you'd need to exercise regularly and maintain a healthy diet. Congrats to those who made it.0 -

No, the discipline that you need to exercise regularly and maintain a healthy diet is something that lasts longer than three days and doesn't involve torturing yourself.0 -

Actually, I just finished the second smoothie, and it was pretty tasty with the lime and pineapple. Admittedly, I halved the kale and celery and cucumber, because I accidentally doubled the spinach in the first one, and I added lime juice to taste, but I wouldn't label it "torture". If you doubt me, you can try one of the recipes for yourself. And actually, I'm full (the recipe makes nearly double my normal breakfast smoothie), so it's not like I'm starving myself either. I'm not suggesting that one should do this cleanse thing as the easy way out and fall back into unhealthy eating habits and lifestyle afterwards. I think if one has enough discipline to follow through with this regimen for a few days, it could provide a confidence boost in one's own willpower and discipline to follow through with a healthy diet and lifestyle afterwards.0 -
Hi I've never done a cleanse, and I really don't know enough about Dr. Oz to approve or disapprove of him, however, when my husband had his weight loss surgery cleanse was part of his before process. Except it lasted 2 weeks :- 0 !!!! They didn't really call it a cleanse, they called it liquid diet. It was meant to cleanse. It takes fat away from the liver which is necessary both for ease if the surgeon and because when your liver (among other organs) are free from all the fat that builds on it, it works better. This coming from a respected US surgeon. To those criticizing this as not a healthy long term weight loss solution. Of coarse you wouldn't want to do this long term for the sole purpose of losing weight. That would be starvation and not acceptable. However, I didn't see the poster or anyone who was going to do it, say they were doing it to "shed weight" or "promote starvation". Ad think if all "well meaning" and "we do it cause we care" folks wouldn't be so mean and make fun. You might be taken seriously by the poster. You want to educate?!?! And help a fellow MFP pal out, guide him or her in the right direction through educating in a grown up way. It's fun to have fun, but didn't you all learn in kindergarten not to be mean? Congrats to those who tried it and gained something positive from the experience.0

So, reporting back at the end of the first day, dinner drink was around the same as the breakfast drink, I'd say. I was worried about the cayenne, because some people said their mouth was on fire, so I decided to try just two shakes of cayenne for the first half (again, I have a small blender, so I have to do a half recipe at a time). I couldn't even taste it. So for the next half, I used three shakes. I could taste it at that quantity, but I wouldn't say my mouth is on FIRE; it's a slight kick. Admittedly, I'm not as sensitive as some other people (like my mom), but I'm not that spice tolerant either (no jalapenos for me). I'd agree that lunch drink is my least favorite of the three, but as I said, I halved the veg and it was pretty refreshing that way. I think overall if you do these three smoothies in a day (plus whatever for the snack one), you're getting more than the minimum recommended amount of veggies anyway. I think mint or basil would probably make a good addition to the lunch smoothie. Too bad I killed my mint plant about a year ago. Also, my kale plant barely had enough to feed me today, so I'm going to have to go the store tomorrow morning so I don't strip it bare eating lunch! And, by the way, I only had a BM after the first smoothie. No diarrhea, cramping, or bloating (yay), although it could be due to the fact that my system is used to a high fiber diet (papaya banana smoothie for breakfast anyone?). I do find myself peeing a lot more though; maybe I don't drink enough water on my normal diet.0

OK, so I just made the breakfast and lunch smoothies last night and put them in my cooler this morning to take to work. The lunch smoothie is nasty like that. You have to drink it fresh. Left in the fridge otherwise, the coconut oil gets all lumpy, and the texture ends up like barf. I was really hungry by early afternoon, so I did eat some, but probably only around half, if that much. :sick:0

Yeah the green lunch drink look like baby poop. The first time I made it I put to many cucumbers in it. I think its the celery that has the strongest flavor.. I didnt buy pineapple this time... I just added more green apple and try adding a little nutmeg.0

I just finished this. I dont really care for Dr. Oz. Kind of a shill. But i did it out of interest. It about 1400 calories a day of nutrient rich ingredients. Ideally we would eat this healthy all the time. Shakes were tasty. Even liked the lunch one. Nice calming hot bath was nice since I never take them. After three days I was down 6 lbs and an inch or two on my measurement. Now I get to see how or if the weight comes back as I get back to "Normal",0
