alright i know with thanksgiving coming up alot of people on here (me included) are a little worried about destroying their diet so i have a few tips for everyone
1. dont skip breakfast!!- make sure you at least eat something for breakfast maybe one of those 100 calorie greek yogurts and a banana, this will give your metabolism a good boost to start the day and doesnt add many calorie
2. exercise early in the day- another thing that will boost you metabolism, preferably cardio that will start your body to burn calories so its prepared for all that you eat
3. eat an apple. about a half an hour before you start your thanksgiving meal eat an apple. this will again boost you metabolism (apples are one of the best foods for that) but also it will make you less hungry for when you do start eating so youll want less and be able to keep your diet
4. wait a few hours for desert- i know this sounds like its gonna suck and honestly it does but its worth it. if you wait a few hours it gives your body time to digest what you ate and it will keep your metabolism up, also it makes it so much better when you wait for it!
add anything else you guys have!

I think it's great that you want to help. But I also think you should look into how food intake effects metabolism.0

well i know you need to eat breakfast to get your metabolism started for the day and that higher fiber and protein foods do that which is why i recommended the greek yogurt and also apples are one of the best metabolism boosting foods
but also its thanksgivng so people are gonna eat alot i want thinking all that much about the food they ate then such as stuffing and potatoes so i see your point0 -

false.
a friend of mine here once said "too many people worry about what to eat between thanksgiving and new years, when they should be worrying about what to eat between new years and thanksgiving."0 -
these are great tips! I never know how to handle thanksgiving. This year I might run a 5k on thanksgiving to keep my head right.0

If you'd like, ill send you some info to let you know the details, but generally: breakfast doesn't boost your metabolism and neither does frequent eating. Skipping breakfast is totally fine provided it doesn't cause overeating.
I'm typing from my phone but if anyone else happens to have a link to the thread I made earlier, all the research is laid out to explain it.
Nothing personal either, it's great to help others. But there's a lot of commonly held misconceptions about dieting that mislead people and this is one of the bigger ones.0 -

^^ This. The wait for dessert thing is absolutely unnecessary and has NO impact on your metabolism!0 -

Amen! I have the option of going to 2 of them this year. I'm totally going to both. I've earned it!0 -

a friend of mine here once said "too many people worry about what to eat between thanksgiving and new years, when they should be worrying about what to eat between new years and thanksgiving."
I think its more important to be conscious year round, which is what the poster (djames) is implying.0 -
id actually love to see those things man if im wrong im sorry this is all just stuff my doctor told me to do last year
also you seem to really know what your talking about lol0 -

It is not a fact. It is false. Diet induced thermogenesis is independent of frequency. It's calorie and macro based.0 -

Apples don't boost the metabolism either. The thermic effect of protein is real--but not enough to matter. Great idea and thanks for the attempt!
I say--EAT--enjoy it. Move on. don't make it into a "let's see how much I can stuff into me in a day" and you'll be fine.0 -

it is not a fact. i haven't eaten breakfast in weeks. my metabolism has not slowed down at all. if anything, i'm noticing that i've lost weight faster.0 -
I'll post a link here next time I'm on my computer. I wrote a post about this a while ago with links and research to explain DIT/TEF. But linking it from my phone is a pain in the breakfast-skipping *kitten*0

reread what i wrote...
too many people here complain about single days, halloween, thanksgiving, christmas, birthdays, etc etc. honestly, those are the days that you shouldn't care. they're special. you can eat.
no, you shouldn't just go with reckless abandon, however, having a really good meal on a holiday with friends and family is awesome.0 -
I get that there are different opinions on breakfast and your metabolism but it makes total sense to eat a healthy breakfast so you don't end up starving and staring at a table full of foods. You'll make better choices and eat more reasonable portions if you not super hungry.
Thanks for the reminder OP.0 -

For some people, yes. For others, breakfast is just calories that could be saved for a bigger dinner.0 -
honestly i agree with you on that
thats why i havent eaten any fast food, candy, junk food, or drank pop at all in the last year and a half and the only day i ate unhealthy was when i went to the state fair
but i also know that alot of people are going to see it as "just one day"0 -

Sadly, the nutrition portion of medical training is SEVERELY lacking in the U.S.0 -
