Females: Is it just me who gains during a visit from TOM?

Seriously. I am 2lbs heavier than I was on Saturday and it is Wednesday. I ate a bit more (probably maintenance), but not enough to gain 2lbs. lol. I went and worked out on Sunday as well and I was already a little heavier than I started. Is there anyone else who gains at this time?

Most woman do, it's just water retention and will go away when TOM is over.

Lots of people (if not the majority) do, its just water weight. I don't weigh myself, but I can tell the difference in how my clothes fit.

Well, I pray so! I am so irritated. lol. I worked hard to lose a few lbs before Thanksgiving and now I'm scared to eat. Lol. I am supposed to make vegetarian turkey, gravy, stuffing, mashed potatoes, potato salad, stuffed shells, veggies (broccoli, corn, cauliflower(?), green beans) maybe macaroni and cheese, plus chocolate covered bananas as well as possibly buying a pumpkin pie. lmso. Plus I want to pick up some tomato, cucumber and carrots to eat uncooked. Yum.
  • happens me too, don't worry, it should have vanished next week!

Thank you! It is discouraging me some. :/ I am trying to keep myself at least somewhat on track, but I tend to say hell with it when I gain any weight. I am easily discouraged. I also have been busy and haven't worked out since Sunday because I have been really busy at home with other stuff. Our daughter's 2nd birthday is next week and Thanksgiving is this week, plus I Christmas shopped online.

I jump an easy 5 pounds... one day I'm at goal weight, the next day I have 5 pounds to lose.
So I look in the mirror. If I'm happy with what I see and I haven't turned into a blimp overnight, I keep on.

It's not just you. I tend to put on a few and get bloated big time...and kinda cranky and want to eat everything in sight too! Just enjoy your Thanksgiving. Maybe just watch your portions and chug the water.

Not at all. I put on about 4 lbs. I just stop weighing myself during my TOM and move on with life. Chug water, exercise to prevent/get rid of cramps, and you'll come out the other side fine.

Yes, I get really hungry too! I LOVE water. I can easily go through a case a day.. lol If I watch tv shows I drink 2 bottles per episode usually and sometimes my husband and I find time to watch 3 back to back, plus I always drink a bottle or 2 per meal and snack. So, that is at least 6cups just with meals if I don't snack. lol

This is an idea. Maybe I should not weigh on these days either. I need to Zumba, but I've been SO busy lately. I literally spent like 15+++ hours shopping for my daughter's party and Christmas, and making a Thanksgiving Day list.

PS... it's all in the flex... I swear I could post a before and after success story blog post with just letting my stomach relax and taking a pic and comparing it side by side... I should do that!

I've decided to chart my weight daily so I can watch the patterns- there definitely is a give and take of about five pounds over the course of a month for me, and it isn't just once! I think it's water- it'll go!

I gained 2 lbs once TOM hit last week. Yesterday I lost 2.3, Today I lost another 2.6. Im clearly not losing the weight, it's the TOM weight coming off and the 2 lbs I should have lost last week since I curbed my salt cravings.

I hate TOM. TOM needs to be much nicer to us ladies!!!!

I have gained 10lbs just from TOM before, so no it's not just you. Now that I take blood pressure meds that have a diuretic in them, I don't gain nearly as much. Maybe 2lbs at the most now.

5 pounds, there one day, and then gone 3 days later, literally overnight.

Water retention and weight gain are common symptoms of pre-menstrual syndrome. It's mentioned in all the Pamprin and Midol commercials.

I often "gain" 5 lbs, right around my middle, due to TOM. Since I've increased my cardio time to an hour, minimum, 6 days a week, I no longer see that gain. I can't seem to completely stop the "Oh My Gosh, I Want To Eat EVERYTHING!!!" feelings, but I can moderate those at least.

You'll drop these off in a few days. Try to enjoy tomorrow, and not stress about gaining from one meal. You'll do fine! If you're really worried, go out for a nice walk or jog some time during the day tomorrow to help negate some of the calories you'll be enjoying.

Yep we all do. We usually retain water.

There are so many variables for the scale; water retention, digestion, hormones, allergies, sodium, carbs, water intake, DOMS, inflammation, the list goes on. People mistakenly think they lose or gain weight when they eat more or less because of these fluctuations.

Losing weight requires tremendous patience. You will not lose it when you want it or where you want it. The body does its thing. Some apparent plateaus can last a month or so. You cannot make it happen faster. You must focus on two things; calories and exercise. Nothing else matters. Scales and metrics don't matter. The day in and day out grind of exercise and calories are all that matters. It is not very exciting until things fall into place. You get your victories and you ride one victory to the next.

The scale is a trend tool. The scale is good but put it away and only check once a week and only use it as a trend tool. It will fluctuate, it does not matter. Take front side and back progress pictures at least once a month. You will see differences that the metrics won't tell you and it's that little bit of NSV that will keep you going until the next victory.

its nothing for me to go up as much at 4 or 5 lbs.. the swelling and water retention is horrible. We will see how it is with drinking my water like I should etc...
