GOD FORBID FAT PEOPLE HAVE ANYTHING IN FASHION AT ALL THAT REPRESENTS OUR BODY TYPE, IT'S NOT LIKE WE WANT TO SEE HOW CLOTHES MIGHT REMOTELY LOOK ON OUR BODY TYPE OR ANYTHING.

Yeah.... Design fail. I have no qualms about having plus size mannequins. That ones just freaky though.

Some stores have used "plus size" mannequins for years, but they're proportioned correctly--this one looks weird because the head is so small.
If people are offended, *kitten* em...I mean, really? We should treat all people with respect...having a plus size mannequin or doll or whatever doesn't mean that we're saying that being significantly overweight is healthy, because for many of us it's not. It's just acknowledging that there ARE all different types of people in this world.0 -

The head obviously was not made to go with the body, however fat people do not magically have any larger heads than thin people so I get why they wouldn't make a plus-sized head o_O0 -

Yeah, I'm torn.
On the one hand, I think that overweight and obese people should be able to see how the clothes look on them.
On the other hand, I don't think that society should modify itself to make sure that people living unhealthy lifestyles are accepted. And while I dislike grown adults making poor health choices, I really really don't like them passing these habits on to their children.
So, overall, I'm pro having the obese mannequins, but I think we still need to do something to promote healthy lifestyle choices at the society level.0 -
Yeah, I'm torn.
On the one hand, I think that overweight and obese people should be able to see how the clothes look on them.
On the other hand, I don't think that society should modify itself to make sure that people living unhealthy lifestyles are accepted. And while I dislike grown adults making poor health choices, I really really don't like them passing these habits on to their children.
So, overall, I'm pro having the obese mannequins, but I think we still need to do something to promote healthy lifestyle choices at the society level.
Because not having mannequins in our size has made fat people any thinner?
Like I'm gonna go out and have 10 big macs the moment I see a mannequin in my size saying "THE MANNEQUIN MADE BEING FAT LOOK SO MUCH FUN"
Ps Fat doesn't equal unhealthy kthxbai.0 -

Actually, 1) most people who are fat are actually living an unhealthy lifestyle, and 2) just carrying extra weight is unhealthy to a degree in that it effects your internal organs, like stressing the heart.
And apparently I missed the point anyways. I really don't think the mannequin looks any more awkward than. The tiny sized mannequins, which I think often look funny and are always nipping weirdly.0 -

Ahhh, political correctness meets the marketing faux-pas. I find the entire article truly bizarre but this comment made me laugh. I know when I was THAT size, it was almost impossible to find clothes that 'fit'. I mostly wore elastic, stretchable sweat pants... not exactly the kind of clothing you would find on a mannequin in the first place.0 -

I agree the mannequin looks kinda funny but it wouldn't look so horrible if it had clothes on. Yes the head is a bit small but what mannequin is really lifelike.0

If they are going to make plus sized mannequins maybe they should model them on an actual person... The head and the arms on that one make it look like Frankenstein and Arnold Schwarzeneggers love child.0

This is almost like telling people it's more than ok to be obese. As a former fattie...I object & DO find it offensive. If people worked at their weight & did the right things then there would be NO NEED for a "big boned" mannequin or "big boned" clothing stores....... would there!

I'm gonna 2nd this only because she's right... If bigger mannequins were consistently paraded around stores , I'm sure I wouldn't of even gone on a diet since that is clearly stating that society is making it acceptable... That being said after I lost e weight I donated all of my jeans and bigger clothes and now I only by what fits snug if I start exploding out of those jeans then I know I'm in trouble.. Instead of running to my old size 5/60 -
I'm sorry seeing smaller mannequins isn't what made me decide to take the weight off. I don't like the way I feel and the body aches I started getting that I never use to have made me want to loose the weight. I do hate seeing clothes that I'm t rying to buy on a small mannequin I go to put them on and they aren't even tailored to my size. There is no reason just because I'm bigger I can't find decent clothing to fit me and I don't think it's unreasonable to not want to waste my time with clothing that won't fit my shape.0

Personally, full-figure stores have always had full-figure mannequinns. Granted, this one is a bit rounder than the ones at Lane Bryant, but this concept isn't unheard of. I find that no one seemed to care until attention was brought to it.0 -
