There is no direct correlation between heart rate and calories burned
Really? You mean when your heart is beating at 150bpm you are burning the same amount of calories as when it is beating at 60bpm?
Or are you burning more calories at 150bpm then at 60bpm?
Calories are burned when energy is expended not because of elevated heart rate
Do you burn more calories during exercise? Yes. Does your heart rate go up during exercise? Yes
Do you burn calories because your heart rate is up? No
Hate to break it to you but your heart is a muscle. When it beats faster your burning more calories then if it's at a slower rate. Ok ok yes if your heart is the only muscle that is working harder (i.e. obese people) it is only a small increase in overall energy expenditure. When your muscles are working harder the tissue requires more oxygen which is why our heart rates increase when we are working out. <-- that is also known as a correlation.
You still haven't proven your point. Your point is: "Do you burn calories because your heart rate is up? No"
You have no evidence that supports that nor have you even explained why this is so.

HRMs are working under the assumption that you are exercising. They use a formula that estimates your calories burned based on your heart rate. Heart rate is not the only factor but During exercise, your hr is actually a pretty fair indicator of how hard your body is working. The higher your hr the harder you are likely to be working. . Like others have said. Your hr increases because there is an extra need for oxygen. Notice how your hr is lower working biceps than it is legs. Because the muscles use more oxygen and energy. HRMs are for working out. Period. They are fairly accurate once you are up jnto the aerobic thresholds and are almost spot on with anaerobic exercise.
But. Like many have said. If ur hr is 110 and ur just sitting there it's not burning as many calories as if you are up walking around with the same hr. but ur hrm is always assuming you are exercising so it will read calories burned as such. The only accurate way to find your metabolic rate at rest is to go get a test.
So. Moral of the story is. Hrm will only be accurate with calories when ur exercising. Think about it. Do you really think you are burning 5000 calories a day doing nothing? Nobody would be fat.0
