My goal says I need an intake of 1900 calories per day to be healthy, can I reduce that number to 1500 or will that affect my ability to burn fat and become counterproductive?

Look into the group EatMore2WeighLess. It will talk about how you should never EVER go under you BMR because it will slow down your metabolism little by little. Just watch some of the videos on youtube... here is a good one:

here we go with some info. "i hope i wont get attacked as usual"
the basics is how much LBM do you have " Lean body mass " so you need to start with going to this website
http://www.freedieting.com/tools/calorie_calculator.htm
if you go to the advance options it will show you Katch-McCardle with a place to enter your body fat % in it
that is the most accurate way to find out your calorie needs
as well please keep in mind the fat intake,as it is so essential for ladies
and if it say work out 3 times a day then it calculates that in your calorie intake so you wont take your workout calories from your daily calorie intake
i hope i helped
tip: if you dont have clippers or measuring tap you can refer to the pic below as a general idea
and here is the link for better resolution of the pic
