Well, here are wbsites to answer your question and prove my point, that even on a molecular level tea is no longer H2O because chemicals from the tea leaves form bonds with chemicals in H20. Enjoy. http://www.teaclass.com/lesson_0204.html, http://www.alltea.com/blog/2012/02/chemistry-tea, http://pubs.acs.org/doi/abs/10.1021/jf60159a025.
You keep making this strawman argument.
The question is, does it hydrate you?

Any non-alcoholic beverage will hydrate you.

    Well, this escalated quickly.

If you're counting how much water you drink-- ie. using MFP to make sure you're getting 8 glasses of water then no. If its a suspension (tea, coffee) or chemically altered (sodas, flavored waters) it will hydrate you which is dandy but nothing beats a big glass of H2O after a good workout  .

Except maybe milk...that's good after a workout too haha

ooo i like your use of the word "suspension" that's cool i hadn't thought of tea like that before.

no it has been chemically changed and your body will not process it as water

    DrBro, PhD

Absolutely not this ever. Your body takes water from anything you put in it with water- eat cucumbers and the body benefits from the high water content. Even caffeinated beverages are not diuretic enough to countereffect the water they provide. I wouldn't do the FUZE personally because I avoid sweeteners other than stevia based sweeteners. But tea? Of course fresh brewed unsweet tea counts as water to your body.

News Flash! Human body separate's chemicals/nutrients when in digestion mode and thus still hydrates.

Think simply man. MFP only has a water counter and not a tea counter, or a soda pop counter. So in general most people (99% of them) just want to know if certain things will count as water=hydration...

Edit: But apparently most people do not know what a search button does or some thing to find this out on countless of other threads on MFP. :ohwell:
  • Once I was in the bush and I was really thirsty and I had a big bottle of water but I had stupidly stored some of the wintergreen plants and cranberries I had picked in the bottle. I died of dehydration.
    True story.

Here's a flower for your grave :flowerforyou:
  • If I drink tea with no sugar or the FUZE drinks with no sugar, does this count as drinking any water for me?

I am not sure about Fuze. But, the tea depends on who you ask. Some say if it is decaffenated it counts as water. Weight Watchers allows you to count it as water as long as you are drinking an equal amount of plain water. Some say no. I say do what works for you.

To head off all the posts that tea/coffee are diuretics.....
    Definition of a diuretic:
"a substance which causes an increase in the production of urine"
Gosh! That sounds like water is a diuretic too. We are all going to die.....

Seriously just stay hydrated with whatever suits you.
If you really think only water hydrates you go and tell all the companies that makes sports hydration drinks that adding "stuff" to water somehow stops water being water.

Does bathing in this count as bathing in water?

    green+tea+bath.jpg

Thats green tea, not urine - i am 44% sure of it.

Did you know that 52.9% of statistics are made up on the spot?

Well, I never said it didn't, but as far as being water, it's not.

    nope...it's not water!
Technically this is true only because when you add a tea bag to water it becomes tea. Add syrup and carbonation to water and get soda pop. Give a pregnant cow water and get milk...etc.

    BUT THEY ALL STILL HYDRATE!!

Meh....why go through all that trouble when it's much easier to rely on dogma?

Either way, make sure you get your eight glasses every day...

...otherwise, you'll enter dehydration mode and you'll retain several pounds of water.
