How much $$$$ have you saved by dieting

We began our new lifestyle 01/01/2012 and have noticed a remarkable change in our household budget, so much so that we have enjoyed an other vacation during the year.
What will you do with the extra cash ?

This is of course different for every individual and family. There are so many variables, just one being the actual difference between eating. However for me, i do not see a financial benifit. Actually the oppisite. I find it to be more expensive to purchese more health concious food choices. But our family has been looking to purchese heathly options pretty regulerly even before i really started to try and eat at a deficiet. So in all actuallity there has been not much change.

Any money I've saved from eating healthier and not eating out is blown on new clothes. I'm down 2 sizes and trying to buy minimal new clothes until I get to my goal weight. Such a pain, but I'm not complaining!

I have lost 37lbs so far, but I have managed to recycle some of my 15 year+old clothes.
I am planning a shopping blitz come the January Sales.

I suppose I spend less of my treat account on takeaways (that's where those were being paid for) and more on my grocery budget on fresh veggies and healthier snacks... so I suspect I come out about even for a month, if the truth be told.
In fact my treat account pays for the soup and sauce specialist bags for the freezer that really can't be used again... and as I now have soup pretty much every weekday, that's where my takeaway money is going!

Any money I have saved (by not buying takeaways 3x per week!) has gone on paying for my Personal Trainer. Money well spent!

Same here... I spend more now.
Good food cost more...and since we eat more healthy food, we buy more etc...

Still....Better pay more for good.....than to pay less for crap!

What I save in buying less food (thank you, portion control), I can now spend on better quality food, such as organic meat, fancy hazelnut milk and soy chocolate dessert (hmm, yum). So I don't think we have more money, but we are healthier and happier for it :-)

    I wish!

Eating healthy is way more expensive for us than eating junk! We are from the UK so I don't know if that makes a difference...

Our weekly food bill has gone up by £25 a week and although that doesn't sound a lot it soon adds up when we only have one wage coming into the household.... the husband works and I home school the boys (they had health issues and the oldest was severely bullied prior to Home ed)

We rarely ate take out anyway and make most meals from scratch but its just getting so expensive here.... Everything has gone up apart from wages!

I haven't figured actual numbers, but I seem to have a lot more money the day before payday than I ever have! ( Although that's about to change because I just bought a new car.) I do buy a lot less food and don't eat out nearly as much. So I guess I saved enough money to pay for a new car over the next 60 months! =)

Maybe it's just an artifact of geography (I live in Australia), but I spend more on food now than I did before I started dieting.

Buying fresh produce, lean meat, fresh bread etc in Western Australia isn't cheap. It's much more expensive than buying packaged and processed crap.

My weekly grocery budget has probably increased by 40% in the last year from eating better.

None. I spend more money if anything. I wouldn't say its because of "dieting" though. I just spend more on better quality food now. I could eat cheaper if I wanted to.

We use to blow thru money eating out and take away... Now it is so much easier to just eat at home.. This weekend every single meal was made at home!

We are learning to shop the fresh produce aisle first, and eat what vegetables and fruits are in season and on sale. I also have learned to buy chicken on sale as well.

Because of portion control, and no more mindless eating, i am throwing out less spoiled food as well.

But i agree the money saved is going to fund my new wardrobe and in 2013, a PT

I've saved a bit from cutting out these takeaways....
    Twice daily cappuccino £13
    McDonalds Breakfast £15
    Weekly takeaways £20

Almost £50 a week eating out saved, now it's packed lunches and instant coffee and cereal/fruit for breakfast :)

I spend way more now especially as I have to factor in the costs of not only buying better quality but also being on a gluten and dairy free diet costs a fortune. I'm not coeliac but the intolerance to both the gluten and dairy are bad enough to need to change. Feeling a lot better for it but my bank account doesn't like it, especially on a very restricted income. I'm doing it for my health, extra years and good health is definitely worth it!

It costs more than before to eat better. I've always said that. I've saved nothing. In fact it is sending me broke.

I think I may be one of the people for whom it is cheaper to be eating healthier. In Israel, most fresh produce is really inexpensive, and fast food isn't actually cheaper than real restaurant food. So by cooking more and eating out less, I am both saving money and being healthier.

Of course, then I go spend that money on martial arts classes and smaller clothes . . .
