Wrist problems?

Hi all! I have kind of an odd condition in my wrists...My ulna bone (the bone on the outside of your forearm) is too long by a few millimeters. Because of this the tendon connecting my ulna to my wrist bones (in that little triangle area) is slowly having a hole worn into it over time. Usually it's ok and I don't have a ton of pain associated with it but since I started using weights to tone my arms they've been acting up. Push ups are a no go as well. My question is is there a way around this? I like working with hand held weights around 10 lbs. Usually I do my triceps and biceps and go for 2-3 reps of ten on each side. I don't want to stop working out my arms but I'm having wrist pain. Any suggestions?

Have you talked with a Dr? They might be able to suggest different grips that will aggravate it less.
And have you tried push-ups on the dumbbells? maybe holding and keeping your wrists straight will help.0 -
Try different grips. some type of fat grip may help the wrist pain:

For pushups you could try using your fists instead of having your hands on the ground.0 -
I've worked around a bad left wrist for almost 15 years now. I cant lay my plam flat during a push up. I either do it on the bars or my fists. When I lifted I almost exclusively did dumbells, because using bars I had to alter my grip and drop too much weight. Talk to a doctor or PT & keep playing with grip variations that dont cause pain.0

Thanks everyone! I tried the machines today instead of free weights and those seemed to help a lot.0

Not sure if it'll help with damage already having being done (although if it's the tfcc you're talking about and the damage isn't in the centre (I think!) it can be repaired) but you can have surgery to have your ulnar shortened.
I've got a bad left wrist myself - although 4 years on, no doctor is able to tell me why. I too have the long ulnar (in both sides) however, an MRI shows this isn't what's causing my problems.
I can't offer any helpful advice with workouts (I don't do strength training and tend to do more boxing or dance type stuff, and when I did 30DS I had to modify a lot) but do go see a dr and see if they can help with surgery.0 -
^^^ Unfortunately the damage to the tendon is in the center of the tendon and the specialist has told me there's not really much they can do to repair it...Only to make it more comfortable when I get older. I've been told that right now there's not enough of a problem really to need or consider surgery.0
