My co-worker is a noisy eater....DRIVES ME NUTS!!!
"CRUNCH! CRUNCH! CRUNCH! SMACK! SMACK! SMACK!..." This is all I've been hearing for the last twenty minutes. She's eating Wheat Thins and it's driving me nuts. She has to be one of the loudest eaters/drinkers I've ever met. I'm not even kidding. I went down the hall to the breakroom to get away from it, and I COULD STILL HEAR HER two doors down! She sips on hot tea and Diet Coke incessantly throughout the day, "SSSLLLUUUUURRRPPPP!" She even makes noise eating oatmeal for crying out loud! How do you make noise eating something that really doesn't even need to be chewed?! Aaaarrrggghhh!!!
I'm not really asking for advice. I just needed to vent a little bit. She's a very sweet lady and I really do like her. We get along great, but excessively noisy eating is like fingernails on a chalkboard for me. I just don't have the heart to complain to her about her open mouthed chewing. She has no clue how loud it really is.

Not so much with eating, but I used to have a woman next to my cubicle that whenever she answered the phone, her voice rose at least 300 decibels. You could be 2 rooms over and hear her. Ummm, phone technology has come a long way since the 19th century; no need to scream ... :grumble:0

That's SICK!! I would be throwing up! It's one of my pet peeves. :explode:0

Next time she's eating something and it's relatively quiet in here (low background noise), I'll have to record it on my phone and send it to you, Steph. I did that for my mom once because she thought I was exaggerating. She's hard of hearing and there was some background noise on the recording, but Mama could still hear the crunching and smacking. It's RIDONKULOUS!0 -

It doesn't gross me out, per se. I just find it EXTREMELY irritating. I understand that there are some foods that you just can't avoid making some noise while eating them. However, you can AT LEAST have the courtesy to chew with your mouth closed.0 -
I have a co-worker like that, too. He's three desks away from me, and whenever I would hear CRUNCH CRUNCH CRUNCH behind me I'd know Samin was having a snack at his desk.
I don't have to deal with this anymore though. A week ago, we were informed we could no longer eat or drink anything at our desks. Kinda makes our mini-fridge, microwave and coffeemaker redundant now.0 -
Record her eating and then put it on her voicemail anonymously. Lol. Maybe she'll get the hint.0

No noisy eaters here but we have several very loud people in this office. One drums her fingers and snaps them in her office, an OCD thing. Another attorney is so loud like he is deaf but he isn't just needs lots of attention and must be in command of every room. Several others laugh or cackle so loud its disturbing. I am very glad none of these people are too close to me though -- I would probably have to play soft music at my desk.0

Technically, we have that rule, too. They really don't enforce it, though, as long as no one goes overboard with it. The rule is mostly in place for the folks who work downstairs and have more interaction with our patients (I work at a family practice).0 -
I have two coworkers - one across the way, and one next to me - that do the same thing. If you ask them to keep it down, they actually chew louder! I don't know if it's just me, but when they start chewing, I find it hard to concentrate. Yuck!
Gum is the worst. Some people just shouldn't be allowed to have gum.0 -
There used to be a guy at my work who would nap randomly during the day and snore REALLY loud! I used to call his phone and let it ring to wake him up, then hang up!
There is another guy with tourette's, so that is always interesting (nothing against him, but he can be loud and random of course).
another guy makes every single call on a LOUD SPEAKERPHONE with his office door open. Why do you need to be on speakerphone unless it is a long conference call? Pick up the handset jerk.0 -
So just to be clear, this has ALWAYS been an issue and you've finally decided to post about it, or is it just an issue because you're on calorie deficit?

that's probably the worst pet peeve i can think of. my mom and brother have had dental work done, so even though they try to chew quietly i can still hear it (same with oatmeal and salad lol). the worst for me is bags of chips, rustling their hand in it and then crunching loudly. don't get me started on those crushed ice addicts. makes no sense. drink some freakin' water!!!!!0

Is that for real?! Seriously, almost all the things they listed set my teeth on edge on a regular basis. It seems to be worse when I am particularly stressed. The noisy eating thing has been a problem for me since early childhood. I couldn't even stay in the same room with my dad and brothers when they were eating. They used to think it was funny, and that I was just being overly dramatic about it.0 -
Hate to say it but thank GOD I'm not alone here. I have the SAME problem!
Drives me insane!0 -

Oh, it's been a problem for the entire two years I've been working here. Really, noisy eating has been an irritation for me since I was a kid (see previous comment). The calorie deficit is not the problem. If I'm hungry, I eat. I just eat something healthy like raw veggies or a piece of fruit.0 -
ask her politely to please use a feed bag to muffle the sound a little.0
-
Why don't you walk up to your co-worker and ask him if he realized that he was eating loud?
I am deaf and I would appreicate if people ask me this question because I sometime forgot to shut my mouth while I eat. I couldn't hear myself.0 -
Hahahaha!0

I'm TOTALLY with you on the potoato chips. Chips are another favorite snack of hers, along with carrots, apples, etc... My mom likes to chew ice, too. She has a problem with iron deficiency and craving ice is a symptom of that. Weird, I know. What in the world would ice chewing have to do with low iron? But that's what her doctor told her, and I've heard that from other sources, as well.0 -
you- "how is that snack?"
co-worker- "ooooh, it's so good."
you- "yeah, it really sounds like you are enjoying it.... a lot."
co-worker- ::confused look::
she'll get it after a while.
and if not, just pop your head up and say "close your mouth, please" over and over until she just stops.0 -
Try sitting next to someone who snaps thier gum and chews like a cow!!0

I had a co-worker who would mumble while he ate anything like…mmm good, mmmm. Then he also would belch 5x an hour and follow his belch with another mumble like oops. I thought it was funny because it pissed so many people off around us.0

Uuuggghhh! "Yummy" noises drive me nuts, as well. I can't watch the family dinner scene from "What About Bob?" It makes me want to smash the TV. Belching doesn't really bother me, though, as long as they aren't doing it right in my ear or face.0
