Huge HIPS ...I know you can't really spot reduce...

I'm 5'10" with 41" hips at 150lbs. Even at 118lbs, they were 38" because of my bone structure. Your hips aren't huge!!!!
Like others have said, if they feel out of proportion with your shoulders, work those to get more muscle up top to even it out.0 -
"I know you can't spot reduce but...how do I spot reduce?"
Take a breath and step back; we're all going to be fugly when we're 90...if we make it that long (it's likely not in the cards for me, I party too hard).
Be happy, get strong and healthy, do stuff outside. The more you do that the better you'll eventually look.0 -
You're never going to be a waif, you're not built that way. I'm not either, it's okay to have hips, it's nice actually. But yes, you're only 19 so it's a good idea to get on top of your weight at your age and start enjoying looking after yourself. And realistically 39inch hips are not massive at 5'9, so relax!0

I know you can't really spot reduce. but I have HUGE hips(39inches). It makes them even more noticeable because i don't have much of a chest at all (34 AA) It seems like they arent shrinking any lately. I know men like a woman with hips but i just feel like mine are WAY too big.... any suggestions on anything i can do to help with this problems? thanks
Dress for your body type. My hips are 49 inches, so don't feel *too* bad. :flowerforyou:
Seriously, there are certain styles that make those of us with wide hips look even bigger than we are. There are also certain styles that, visually speaking, have a slimming effect. I envy your 39 inches and hope to get that small myself. (That will be when I am officially in "normal" sizes and out of the "plus" sizes.)
I agree with the others that you are being hard on yourself. You look great. Find clothes that flatter your current figure rather than wishing for a different body type. You've lost a LOT of weight and should be very proud of yourself. Drop the fat mentality. Accentuate the positive, and eliminate the negative. :happy:0 -
FYI, 40 inch hips on a 5'3" frame:

You can get a boob job, to even it out0

It always makes me slightly sad when someone posts up about their 'huge', 'massive', 'disgusting' (insert body part here), and then I realise mine is bigger.0

The fact is, while you can lose weight, you can't spot reduce, and you cannot change your overall body shape, or your genetics.
Be happy with the weight you've lost, and the fact that you are becoming healthier and stronger.
I actually would love to have an hourglass figure with a smaller waist, but that's not in the cards for me. My ribs aren't designed for it, so I've made my peace with it.
I focus on the things I do love about my body, like how strong I am, along with my endurance level. Sure, I like the way I look in the mirror, but I like the things my body can do even more.0 -
I have 37 inch hips and wouldn't consider them huge. And I'm not overweight in the slightest. And I'm shorter than you.0

Or she can just learn to be happy in her natural shape?0 -
I think the problem is that you're 19. While you've been focused on losing weight and gaining because of depo, your body secretly started developing in to a woman's body under the radar, and now your expectations are to have your girl's body back. It doesn't mean you're fat, at all. It just means your body changed, as happens to every woman. I think that's why you think they're huge and every other woman who's replied think they're totally normal. Once your body has changed, you will have to go to a really low bodyfat to get rid of natural hips. They're there to store fat so that if you get pregnant and there's famine, your baby has
A chance of survival. Not terribly practical in modern society, but hard to beat biology. Conveniently, men are programmed to find feminine curves sexy. Anyway, learn to like them, they're not huge, you look great!0 -
I will say a pet peeve of mine is when somebody doesn't like "such and such" body part, they want to know how to change it, and then you get 10 other posters projecting their own insecurities onto the OP.0

39 inch hips huge?!? You're not kidding are you?0

Where was that?0 -
41 inch hips over here, so I feel your pain! Not a huge deal; most men love curves.
Here's a tip I discovered recently to help with the smaller topside - tops that have a swoop neck & hang loosely at your breasts will make them appear larger. I would post a pic but don't have a photobucket account.
Eventually as you shed body fat, the hips will diminish. Keep plugging away & don't give up!0 -

Thanks. this made me feel so much better.0 -
Hmm. I'm only 5'1" and my hips are 45 inches, and I don't really even see them as huge, they're just....me. I am working on what I can, but I don't worry about the numbers much. You can't compare yourself to anyone else, or to what you think is supposed to be an "ideal" number. Work on your fitness and your health, both physical and mental. Learn to be happy with yourself NOW, exactly the way you are. Then the person you would like to be has already arrived, and anything and everything you do to change that person will be because you WANT to, not because you think you have to to become that person that you want to be.
This song helps me a lot when I start thinking I should be something other than what I am.

When I started my fitness journey my hips were 42". I know, they were HUGE!!! Way bigger than 39". I didnt do anything specific to reduce the size of my hips. Just getting active and doing different exercises helped a great bit. Its usually the hardest to lose the inches off your hips. My hips are now 37" and I feel great. But when my hips were 42" I never thought they were huge, but now looking back I can really see the difference. I was doing hardcore bootcamps to really get my results. Maybe you need to join a group that will really kick your *kitten* into fitness. Otherwise keep working out and eating clean, give it time -it will happen.0

I think my hips were around 40 or 41" inches when I first started. They're 34" today, so I know you definitely can lose them!0

You can lose the fat on your hips. You cannot lose the bone. You are a straight shape. The OP is a pear. And she's tall. She may lose more off her hips. She may not. Regardless, her hips are not huge by any stretch.
I will likely never have 34-inch hips. I'm an hourglass.0 -
