I think the problem is that you're 19. While you've been focused on losing weight and gaining because of depo, your body secretly started developing in to a woman's body under the radar, and now your expectations are to have your girl's body back. It doesn't mean you're fat, at all. It just means your body changed, as happens to every woman. I think that's why you think they're huge and every other woman who's replied think they're totally normal. Once your body has changed, you will have to go to a really low bodyfat to get rid of natural hips. They're there to store fat so that if you get pregnant and there's famine, your baby has
A chance of survival. Not terribly practical in modern society, but hard to beat biology. Conveniently, men are programmed to find feminine curves sexy. Anyway, learn to like them, they're not huge, you look great!

Thanks. this made me feel so much better. :)

It is said that hip fat on a pregnant woman has a lot of positive effects on the baby for some reason. xo

I think my hips were around 40 or 41" inches when I first started. They're 34" today, so I know you definitely can lose them!

You can lose the fat on your hips. You cannot lose the bone. You are a straight shape. The OP is a pear. And she's tall. She may lose more off her hips. She may not. Regardless, her hips are not huge by any stretch.

I will likely never have 34-inch hips. I'm an hourglass.

Exactly. Let me clarify what I said - for me, I lost my hips through fat loss. Once you get down to the bone there's no going any further! I will never have less than a 27" waist because of where my ribs are placed.

My best friend is 6'2", has 40" hips and a 23 inch waist. There's no ounce of fat on her whatsoever.

    We are all different.

I know you can't really spot reduce. but I have HUGE hips(39inches). It makes them even more noticeable because i don't have much of a chest at all (34 AA) It seems like they arent shrinking any lately. I know men like a woman with hips but i just feel like mine are WAY too big.... any suggestions on anything i can do to help with this problems? thanks

I don't know your height or weight, but my wife is 38 in the hips and I think she's quite hot.
Best thing I read today!!! I Love it when men compliment their wives!

    Thanks. That made my day.
  • LOL, well Huge to some is perfect to others....

However, when I started in January of this year my hip measurement was 51" THAT's HUGE! Doing Turbofire videos for cardio and walk/jogging I've worked mine down to 41' and feel pretty good about them.

Still working at it, but that has helped a huge amount! Keep at it and you'll get to goal!!!!

Like others who have commented, I just took a look at your pics and...

You, my dear, have a smokin' bod and you should not let anybody - especially YOU - tell you any different!!!
  • I have 38.5" hips. I used to hate them but as I've gotten older I've just accepted that I'm built curvy and that's the way it goes. I vote you embrace your curves, be proud and learn to appreciate that your hip measurements are part of what makes you uniquely beautiful and feminine. By the way you look amazing!
  • I'm not sure what area you live in but look into a Massage Therapist helping you body sculpt. You can myo the fascia layer where your fat is stuck and reshape your body. No problem. If you have any questions, let me know, I do this for a living and have many clients who see results immediately.

You're welcome. It's just the facts of womanhood. It's why juniors' sized pants and women's sized pants are cut so different. Some women still fit well in the juniors' pants as adults, but not that many.

    Calorie deficit
    stay consistent
squats/ lunges/ deadlifts and other compound moves with weights that challenge you

Genetics predetermine a lot and You can't pick and choose where you want to lose the fat from but you sure as hell can strength train to build those muscles. I'd rather have a big ole butt that I can bounce a quarter off of than I jiggly droopy one!!

I used that massage line in college to try and get laid. Most times it just got me slapped.

I think I watch too many movies.

I had that body type until I had kids. My hips are still around 39 inches, but having kids gave me boobs finally. Instead of being pear shaped, I am more hourglass.

    I'm 5'9", 160lbs, 36 A, and have 40 inch hips.

Build some muscle. Muscles on my upper body help balance out my lower body. Muscles on my lower body makes me strong and makes the remaining fat look better.
