50 Year Old Couples? Protection?
Quick question that hopefully won't be pulled by the monitors.
If you are around 50 and in a very long term stable relationship, do you use protection?
I have seen conflicting stats about how late pregnancy can occur.
Update:
People are posting about STDs, we have been married almost 25 years. That is not really an issue FOR US. Other people, not so much........

I'm not sure why you would if the woman is past menopause (or the man is shooting blanks) and you're monogamous.0
-
I have my CHL and am always carrying. I would expect to carry more as I get older and less able to defend myself.0
-
It depends on if the woman's menstrual cycle has stopped yet or not. If it has, then protection doesn't matter.0

Has the women in this "relationship" reached menopause?0
-
Also...has she been tested for cooties?0

Fun Fact: The Villages in Florida, which is a retirement community and really a small self contained city, has the highest rate of STD's.
So in answer to your question yes. Use protection.0 -

If it weren't for the STD thing I'd say that place rocks. Friends of mine visited there and they said it's awesome. Happy Hour all day long, you get golf carts to tool around in. . . . Yeah, the STD's are a down side but dayum I hope some day I can be a horny old lady!0 -
If you're questioning the need, you probably need it.0

Was just about to post this. I worked in a nursing home and they had a lot of STD's going around in that place which spiked after Viagra hit the market. You can get STD's at any age.0 -

OP was clearly asking about pregnancy, not STDs.0 -

So? It's still a fun fact and regardless of whether or not someone over 50 can get pregnant they can still get an STD. Age doesn't exonerate a person from this.0 -
you should heed the advice of Jimmy Dugan's baseball signature

Ha! Wow, those people really don't let age slow them down I guess.0 -

So you weren't answering the OP's question. OP clearly wrote the word pregnancy and said that the couple is in a stable long term relationship. I wouldn't necessarily call STD facts fun, either.0 -
If you are in your 50s, have been together for a long time and she still doesn't let you finish anywhere you please... break up.0

If no one has been snipped, I wouldn't take my chances.
My mother's former boss went through menopause and hadn't had a period in two years. She was in her late 40s. Her doctor told her she no longer needed to worry.
Doc was very wrong!0 -
If the woman has not gone through menopause completely then yes definitely use protection. Otherwise since it is a long term stable relationship I would say ditch the condoms (or whatever). 50 and pregnant does not sound fun. In fact, any age and pregnant does not sound fun to me0

Hope I'm still pokin' at that age...kind of gross to think about right now, but I'm sure it'll seem completely normal when I'm 70.0 -
I would talk to your doctor about that. It probably depends on your menopause status.0

You'd only need to use protection if you were not in a stable, long-term, monogamous relationship. If you've been having sex with the same person (and neither of you have had sex with other people) for 20 years, your risk of contracting a new STI from that person is very low.0 -
Don't be silly, protect your willy0

If no one has been snipped or gone through menopause, then I say better safe than sorry. I'm infertile, but still have my lady parts, so I don't take chances. I have no desire to be a 40-or-50-something year old new mom.0

Um, what about the people that think they are in a monogamous relationship???0 -
Eh, my mom was 47 when she had my youngest brother. It's not impossible (it was without ANY fertility treatments, btw. We're just natural fertile myrtles lol)0
-
Protection. It's not just for birth control.
