I have been staring at the banana on my desk for the past hour, but i only have 120 calories left and I still need to have dinner. I'm thinking 1200 is much too low

One would hope you are eating your exercise calories back?

1200 calories seems pretty low for your height and activity level.

120 cals left and you have not eaten dinner yet? How many calories are you consuming for breakfast and lunch? id try to adjust that so you are getting a healthy dose of calories at each meal.

I'm 5'9 and ate 1550 calories PLUS exercise calories and lost just over a pound a week. Started at 172lbs. When you tell MFP that you are exercising, it does not add in those calories until you actually log it. So you will start your day with 1200, log a session for say 350 cals, then your goal will go up to 1550. Did you say you were sedentary? That is still WAY to low of calories.

If no one else posted here is how to make a realistic goal that will make you happy and healthy. Also how to set your macros etc

Lift heavy things, eat enough, move your butt, and look good doing it!
  • If you eat ridiculously few calories like that (1200/day), your cortisol will rise, and you will retain body fat.

The app isn't telling you to eat 1200 calories. The app is telling you that for the aggressive weight loss pace you've selected, basic math says 1200 calories or less would get you there. Choose a more rational (i.e., slower) pace and you'll probably have a happier, healthier time of it with nicer-looking results -- and a much easier transition into maintenance with a better chance of making the weight loss permanent.

    Exactly!

I'm 5'10" and I would be one grumpy person if I was restricted to 1200 calories. Heck, I've eaten almost that amount already today and it's only 2:20 in the afternoon.
  • at your height I cant believe you got 1200n calories. I'm just under 5' 0" & am at 1200 & even when I'm doing good I often hit 1300 or 1400 & lose

I'm 5'10" and started at 198.5 and I'm trying to get to 160. 1200 calories would be way too low for me. I exercise a minimum of 1 hr/day, 6 days per week, sometimes 2 hrs and I eat 1700-1800. I did enter my goal to lose 1 lb per week, because I wanted to be realistic. I think you will be discouraged if you try getting results with only 1200 calories. You really need to fuel your body with good healthy foods. Good luck and you CAN do this!!

People do realise this is a very old post, right? The OP is long gone
