Fat shaming

No. Someone else's weight is not your business. No, no, no, and no. Even under the guise of help, it is still rude, tactless, and invades personal boundaries.
Fat shaming IS real problem. And the problem is that is what it leads to - shame. And shame does not help someone love themselves enough to make change. It might make them feel desperate enough to try an unhealthy weight loss diet, or desperate enough to binge. But shame is NOT a beneficial emotion to making positive, sustainable change.
It leads to self-hate. That's not healthy. I would be mortified if I made someone else feel that way, even unintentionally.
When I was 19 a modeling agency wanted me as a plus size model. I was like 147 pounds...5`9-5`10...hip bones visible...outline of a six pack and a size 8. I was pissed. Its because I have hips according ton the rep. I went off on them and said they were why girls had eating disorders, threw my paper work and left.0 -
No one ever told me I was fat to my face, and yes I was aware that I was, but chose to ignore it. I have high blood pressure, and even my doctor never pointed out my weight being a danger to my health, just suggested I might want to lose a few pounds, but hey, only do low impact exercise like walking.
I would have been offended if someone close bawled me out in public about my weight, but maybe a one on one conversation suggesting I could do with losing a few pounds would not have gone amiss. Oddly, now I am a healthy weight for my height, people are more likely to comment on my weight, I get called skinny and often have to defend my daily trips to the gym and what I eat. I think people are scared of commenting on others fat issues for fear of being called a bully.
One happy side effect to my weight loss has been my younger sister also dropping weight. I never bullied her about her weight, but led by example and told her how simple it was. I am really proud of how well she is doing.0
