Nope. I originally started out using it to lose weight, but after I hit my goal loss (27-ish lbs) I've switched it up to putting some weight back on. Gained around 3-4 lbs so far. I'm easing into it very slowly... Up-ing my calories by 100 every week or two until I'm up around 24000

How rapid a bulk are you going for?
1-2 lbs a week is way too fast imo.
2lbs a week is the equivalent of 104lbs a year!!! way over half of that would be fat at that rate.
take into account water and glycogen stores that come with greater lean muscle mass0 -
I was for a while. Mostly watching amout of protein I was consuming. Tacked on about 27lbs0

thats going to be minimal,
Even 1lb a week is high, think about how much lean muscle tissue a natural can actually gain in 12 months. It's certainly not anywhere near 52lbs.0 -
I love this thread, lots of eye candy!0

according to research, I can't remember where I found it but its possible to build 0.5lb of pure muscle tissue per week. not including water or glycogen. However, putting on muscle is not linear and progress will slow. so I doubt he will be putting on 104lbs in a year.0 -
The number I heard (not sure how generally it applies or how accurate) was 30grams a day...
Scaled up that would be about 24pounds a year.
If you could do 100 pounds in a year, that would equate to 120grams a day, and that seems unlikely...0 -
I'm another one who isn't trying to lose weight.
I'm not strictly into bulking and cutting though, just monitoring my weight, and making sure I hit weight for competitions, although I'm moving up a weight class at the moment, so I'm sort of bulking I guess.0 -
Everything I've read says 1lb per month is a reasonable goal for most people. Some people can/will gain faster, some will gain slower depending on a variety of variables... but 1lb per month is a realistic goal for most.0

I'd agree with this.
My plan to move from 94kg to 105kg class was to do it over 2 years, which is about this rate.0 -
Yep. Trying to gain weight and using this to make sure I eat at least 3000 a day!0

lol, I just was instructed to go here by my doctor- I run 10-15 miles or do 90 mins of hardcore spinning, so I am very active. My doctor does not want me dropping any more weight (I'm 140-145, male, 5'10), and I am tracking how much I eat/burn. Do you guys find the calories on this thing accurate? It is telling me to eat ~3500 just to maintain my weight.0

I am only bulking until the beginning of april, and then I will cut for summer. Ive gained 25 pounds since July 2012 and have maintained a lower body fat so I know it can be done.0 -
bumping because I am interested in learning more - even at my age.0

I am new to here too. Study this:

Your needs are different than most folks on here. IMO, accuracy will be based on the time and effort you put into setting everything up in MFP initially.0 -
OP,
I'm in the same boat. I however discovered this site to lose. I started my cut around February 2012 and I have lost 80lbs and leaned up nicely eating 404020 along with HIIT type cardio.
My maintenance level is right around 2200cal (desk job) so I'm slowly creeping up to around 2400-2450cal over the next couple weeks. I am clean eater so-to-speak. I don't and won't eat "crappy" foods to meet my macros. I'd rather eat 200g of powder (ouch) than eat a pizza to reach my goal.... lol but that's just crazy ole me.0 -

Nope, you aren't the only one, I thought I was the only one. Its good to know there are others too! :happy:0

No, you are not the only one. I am too trying to gain weight.0
