I almost always net @ least 1200 by the end of the week (I go by weekly nets -- eat less during the weekdays and eat more during the weekends)... that means I average out eating 1400-1900 daily. I lose netting 1200 and I also lose netting 1500. For me, eating 1200 calories w/o eating exercise calories back would be torture and not sustainable in the long run... this is a marathon after all, not a race.

I'm 5'3 and 1200 is too low for me. I do a lot of zumba 3-4 times a week so I aim for 1500-1600.

I am 5'1" and currently weigh 145 lbs. I eat between 1200-1300 calories. I normally burn 400-600 calories working out per day. I don't generally eat these back. If I do, it's just a few, except on special occasions. Over the last 2 years I've experimented with eating back the majority of my cals burned and it didn't work for me. But I've heard that it works for others. I suggest eating them back for a month to see if you have success. If not, then don't eat them back.

Everyone is different. The trick is finding what works for you.

I am probably going to eat about 1200 and eat back my burned calories which will put me at about 1500calories a day and I think I am going to start Jillian Michael's Body Revolution(90 day program) and on the cardio days do the C25k, that will be about 6 or 7 days of exercise. Maybe I can see where this gets me in a month. I know with the exercising I am going to have to eat back the calories burned because if I leave it around 1200, I will be ready to binge.

I am 5'3" and I starve on 1200, but I exercise to eat more. I am in my late 30s and will lose at 1400 cals if I am exercising too.

    I use this: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/654536-in-place-of-a-road-map-2-0-revised-7-2-12

I'm 5'3", at almost 1,800 a day. Just add exercise (weightlifting/cardio). I do cardio because I'm also training for rugby.

That roadmap. I'm 5'1-2 Before I was consuming 1200-1500 calories a day (eating back exercise calories). I stalled at that. I have now upped my calories to 1700 (which is conservative given the roadmap) and I'm hoping to see a change.

I'm 5'3 but I'm losing steadily at 1650 calories. And yes, I do eat back my exercise calories. :) Being short doesn't mean you have to eat at 1200.

I'm 5'5" and am doing OK with 1200. It was hard at first and I was super hungry, but I think my body needed to adjust to eating lest because I had been eating so poorly for so long. I eat three meals, each around 300 or so calories, then snacks on top of it. I do Zumba 5 times a week and I walk to work (3 mile round trip) every weekday. If I'm hungry, I'll add a snack but I don't force myself to eat back exercise calories (my doctor recommended NOT eating back those calories if I wanted to lose weight). Since returning to MFP last week I find that I'm OK with 1200-1300 calories a day.

5'1" and always stay below 1200 calories. Never eat back my exercise calories, although I do moderate exercise. But these postings have been very helpful, knowing that many of you can eat a little more than 1200 calories and lose weight. I may try increasing it by 100 calories to see what happens. Thanks.
