Chia seeds are a great egg alternative in baking for those that can't/won't eat eggs. I do eat eggs, but will still use them in baking sometimes too as they have lots of healthy stuff in them.

Not a replacement, but I love hiding canned pumpkin in tomato based things (chili, spaghetti, etc.). You can't tell it's there, and extra nutrients.

Spaghetti squash instead of pasta! Low calorie and tastes great!

Land 'O Lakes light butter--tastes like butter, but half the calories.

    PB2--just tried it...not bad!

I've heard that was a good one too, I'll have to try it. I'm all for adding more veggies to a recipe to make it more filling.

Thanks so much! I love PB2 so far but I can only get it at GNC. I'll have to try that next. Is it any cheaper than PB2?

I'll have to try that. Lately I've been adding chopped kale to spaghetti sauce, and while you can certainly tell it's there, no one seems to mind.

    My top 3 substitutions are:

Plain Greek yogurt for sour cream.

Parmesan cheese for butter on vegetables. OK, so you'll never mistake one for the other, but they pack a similar punch, flavor-wise.

Coconut or almond milk for regular milk.

I always sub out some of the white flour in a recipe for whole wheat or oat flour.

Applesauce to replace the fats in baking (especially yummy in muffins and pancakes).

Greek yogurt to replace sour cream in some dips etc.
  • Greek yogurt ---> for sour cream or mayo
Can of diced tomatoes ---> for sugary canned marinara sauce
    Quinoa ---> for rice

    1. Instead of single cream I use natural yogurt
    2. For baking I am using wholewheat flour instead of self baking
    3. I know its not substitute but I prefer full fat chocolate or any flavor yogurt than 0% or fat free one. I hate the taste.
