to any person who may think this is offensive, we are friends, and I affectionately call her this all of the time...it became even more funny after a certain butt story was told.

So what. I like the mods. They do a great job and never get enough thanks. If you can't play by their rules you can complain all you want but they still "win." If you don't like it, you can leave.
I like it.
YAY MODS!

In <17 days, you've already concluded that the mods do a great job and never get enough thanks? I'm impressed. I was here for at least four months before I even looked at the forums.
And for what it's worth, I suspect there are a few of your 50ish posts that are technically in violation of the Community Guidelines (all hail). Hmmm...0 -

Meh, I still disagree with this...

Also stop reporting things unless its necessary... if you are an avid "OH I DON"T LIKE THIS REPORT" person go away. It is not your JOB to remove those you do not like, use the ignore feature and those you don't like won't show up on the forums. Seriously... you know who you are.
I completely agree...except for this part. This will not fix the problem at all...because there will always be a new wave of new users with the potential to start reporting everything. You can't stop that.
But the good news is, that isn't where the system is broken. It's broken at the other end of the report. I, too, have been involved in online message boards for a very long time (even back to the dial-up modem BBS days), and this is the first forum I have encountered that puts such weight into the sole fact that a post was reported. Coupled with a very broad ToS, it is a horrible combination. It puts the power into the hands of the (often new) user when this power should stay with a reasonable mod decision. Yes, I know, making these mod calls is difficult...(I've been there)...people will not always be happy...but to err so far to the side of the report itself is absolutely ludicrous.
Now you are just making sense and that won't do! I know how moderation works.. been there... done that... do not want to do it again. I am just tired of people thats all.0 -

That's one of the things that is pretty obvious to me. In other forums I've been in there are site mods that things get knocked up to in difficult situations, but more each board has a mod or two and they go to the site mods for advice on how to moderate their board (like our groups). It give all boards consistency, one person to go to, and if something isn't addressed on the board the way the reporter thinks it should be it's not appropriate to call it out publicly but is discussed to some sort of satisfaction. As soon as someone is reported they get a message and a flag that they are being reviewed and why, they can have discussions on the matter, it's all handled differently.0 -
If you think someone is being mean, "move the hell along".
If you see a post where someone thinks YOU are being mean, then YOU "move the hell along".
If you see a post that you find offensive because of what the person is wearing, "move the hell along".
If you see a post that you find offensive because it talks about a religion that you don't believe in, "move the hell along".
Etc, etc, etc.
Either move the hell along, or have a respectful debate. If everyone would listen to their own advice of when to move the hell along and stop reporting crap, maybe there wouldn't be an excessive amount of reporting.0 -
Aw crap. Divided by zero. BRACE YOURSELVES!0

PHYSICAL ABUSE HEALS WITH TIME.... MENTAL ABUSE MAY NEVER HEAL AT ALL and those words will ALWAYS stick with you at a negative point in your lifestyle..... so... choose words wisely and know someones feelings are behind this screen... dont be mean just because you can....
Actually mental abuse only stays with you if you allow it to. No one can mentally hurt you unless you let them.0 -
OP could not have said it better. The drama by the report frenzy by getting someones panties in a wad has gotten out of control. And seriously if your feelings get all hurt over the internet, seek professional help, because you may have deeper issues than weight loss.
:drinker: :drinker: :drinker: Cheers to the OP for this!!!0 -

YAY MODS!
Just to be clear. I have no problems with the moderators... well I have a problem with them just clicking and deleting and stuff... I have more of a problem with report happy people... those people make me angry.
Well, obviously I don't watch everything the mods do, but in general the threads I've seen get locked I completely agree with the mods decision. Honest to goodness--not sucking up here.
I think you insult the Mods intelligence by assuming they aren't good at their jobs just because you or your friends have been warned. The mods probably wait to get multiple reports, then visit the thread, make a decision for themselves like any adult would do and then carry out that decision. I'm fine with it. I don't report a lot, but the things I have reported I was grateful were reviewed. I don't like forums that get all "wild west" for no good reason. Sarcasm is fine on some other sites like 4chan or fark or whatever, but it's not always appropriate on all forums. Audience matters.
Most of us have been here long enough to see and know the reasons and circumstances people receive reprecussions for reports. Many of them eventually get overturned because the mods do not take the time to hear both sides of a story before handing out judgment.
I believe people who have been using these forums for years are a little better equipped to pass judgment on the actions of the forum's moderators than someone who has used it for less than a month.0 -

Only thing is that I can very much say something I've said on the forums to someone's face if it were possible. I think there are a lot more people on here that are exactly that way and you've underestimated the MFP population and personalities.0 -

At the risk of receiving more strikes, I register my agreement. I believe that there is a very serious problem that needs to be addressed, I believe that the steps which have been taken in the last two months to address the problem have been counterproductive, and I'm disappointed that the user feedback I hear so broadly and frequently appears to be being ignored.0

Go look at the "what's NOT sexy about the person above" thread. People are NOT being mean when they have been given a chance to, everyone is being polite and cute.
People here aren't mean, mostly it's sarcasm or micky taking.0 -

dumbing a forum down to satisfy the least common denominator element of the membership always kills a forum.0
