I'm just glad that so many of us feel the same. So hopefully there are people there that are sticking up for her.

seriously stupid, close-minded and insignificant. what does the principal hope to teach from this??? intolerance?? maybe things are SO good at his school (not) that this is all he has to focus on.
I don't know what the principal was TRYING to teach,,, but what this kid has learned is "GTFOutta Mississippi".

    Wow. Just &*%in' wow.

Dear Oompa_Loompa, just make sure when/if you write to that principal, you use a word editor and spell check.

Errrrm. I think by "principal" you must mean "principle." Good old-fashioned irony.
    LOL!!!

About the school prom, that is a shame! High school is where people find themselves. Why are they being prevented from being themselves!?!

This makes me very sad. At my high school prom there was a lesbian couple just like those girls and one of them DID wear a tux! No one cared at all.

I agree with the person that said that she must be going through hell with what the other students are most likely putting her through.

I think that it's amazing that with all the violence in our country, and in the midst of two wars and a tanked economy, we have so many "deeply concerned" adults stressing out over homosexuality.

Here's the question I always ask "So you believe that if you were exposed to the homosexual lifestyle through personal experience, literature or pornography, you would be so enthralled you would then chose to become a homosexual yourself? Seriously? Because if that's all it takes to change your sexual orientation you are already, at a minimum, bi-sexual"

Not to mention the fact that there are hundreds of thousands of gay people who were raised by straight people and really only ever exposed to hetero-normativity their whole lives and yet they "became gay." It clearly isn't due to the environment.

Just curious, how did they find out that she was going to wear a tux in the first place? Are all students required to submit their intended prom attire beforehand for approval? Because I bet you some of those girls that are going with boys are going to be wearing some pretty skanky outfits anyway. I'd rather have a girl in a tux than a 17 year old that is dressed like a 24 year old going to a nightclub in Vegas.

How much do you want to bet this is one of those schools where the administration has a complete double standard and permits the boys' sports teams to haze their new members by making them dress in drag?

I doubt everyone on this site agrees..... just most people realize to disagree on this forum would be pointless.

So, we just keep our mouths shut.

Well everyone is entitled to their own opinion but if you don't agree then you don't need to post ANYTHING at all.

Let it go Oompa. It'll get political, and it'll get ugly, and then Mike'll have to lock the thread. If somebody thinks Rosa Parks should'a just carried herself to the back of the bus and sat down and shut up, well,,, that's their right.

Yes, that is one way of dealing with it--

Of course another one is to honor the "rules" of the forum--

"- No political or religious topics, as we've found those tend to lead to some heated arguments. If you want to discuss politics or religion, there are plenty of other places on the internet for that - just google it. "

    Food for thought.

I don't think that's exactly true - I know that I would be fine with a religious school enforcing this rule! I would be fine with parents keeping their kids home from the prom because they don't want them to see a same sex couple!

My issue is with a non-religion based school doing this because they wish to enforce cultural/ religious norms on students. It really wasn't that long ago that inter-racial couples were treated the same way (70s). I know adults who still have issues with inter-racial marriage but few of them think it should be illegal. In 25 years I think we're going to be pretty sheepish when our grand or great - grand children pull up some of our Internet postings and ask us to explain! It will be a lot like the shame my parents feel about their discriminating thoughts about minorities back in the 50s and 60s.

Edited - oops! Just read the rest of the response. I do think we can all agree that citizens of the United States all value personal freedom and boundaries where government shouldn't intrude. It's just where one person's freedom interferes (or interFEARS) with others that things get sticky!

Always amazed how a member on here can write their thoughts and instead of another simple reading them, some turn into spellchecker police.

If we don't have anything helpful or kind why would any of us take time to scream spellchecker. Some times I get to typing to fast and though I know how to spell my words sure don't turn out that way at time. lol

It's so easy for us all to hide behind a screen online.

    Merely my thoughts:flowerforyou:

edit: ah HA! Perfect example in my above post:blushing:

Seriously? Your first post & you're going to come down on her for not using spell check? It's a forum, lighten up on the girl.
Ok so I wasn't the only one to notice that.

I think we all work so hard in our lives to become healthy individuals, we all know how hard it can be at times, it makes me sick inside to read some posts where we begin to squabble amongst ourselves, when we could instead be using one another for strong support.

    (or interFEARS)

I will only say, "fears" has nothing to do with it. Now my lips are zipped. And so are my fingers.
