What does your spouse or significant other think?

I was just wondering how your weight loss is affecting your relationships. One reason I am losing weight is to look good for my husband. I guess this is normal for most also.
However...
How have things changed since you lost weight? How was it during the whole weight loss process? Any advice on how to tackle the issue with your partner?
Thanks!!!

My husband is doing this with me. He's very supportive and positive about it all. I hope everyone who is in a relationship has a very supportive significant other!0

I have the most inspiring, supportive partner in the world.0

My husband is very supportive and is as excited about my reaching goal weight as I was. He has been there every step of the way and can't keep his hands off my much smaller butt!0

im losing weight for my self not my husband ! if he likes the effect of my weight loss , well good but ultimately im doing it for my self .......0

My husband is who motivated me. He joined Weight Watchers last year and has lost 60 lbs, so far. He is now doing C25K & I couldn't sit on my butt and watch him anymore. I had to do something, too.0

I wish my husband would lose weight with me....he doesn't need to lose alot, but he has no desire to count calories or anything. So, I don't see him getting any smaller. Maybe I can convince him to start exercising....we'll see.
I've explained to him my goals and reasonings behind wanting to lose weight. I don't even really want to lose, so much as just get more fit. I work in a demanding field at times, and the stronger I am physically, the better. Plus I want to keep up with our 4 kids.
As for us, communication was key for me.0 -
My husband loved me when I was under weight, when I was way over weight and still loved me now that I am healthy. He supports me and even started a healthy lifestyle himself. The last time he saw me was almost over 30lbs ago...so kinda curious how things will go once he is home.
side note: he is deployed that's why he is not home.0 -
My husband has seen me start and abandon so many weight loss and/or fitness efforts that he's completely lost confidence in me, I think. He's been good to me through fat and thin, so my weight loss and fitness efforts truly don't matter to him. I'll just have to stay the course this time and surprise both of us.0

My SO is always suspicious that I am trying to be fit for looking/dating/affairs with other girls!0

Unfortunately, I'm single. I hope that I can find a man who would love and support me no matter what. I envy people who have someone like that.0

my husband has been very supportive. He doesn't make comments when I stray and is always honest when I ask him questions about my weightloss journey. Normally he'll give me a please don't troll look when i ask him if my butt looks big lol. otherwise he never makes comments unless its to tell me that he thinks im beautiful or that he notices a difference.
One thing that he has notice is that my confidence and how I see myself has gotten better and more positive. He truly loves that aspect it because he doesnt care wether or not I lose weight but I how I feel about myself0 -
I have been married to a wonderful woman for over 20 years. For all but the past 12 - 18 months I have been over weight. With the worst being the 2 -3 years prior to my making a life change.
It goes without saying that my wife is happy and relieved that I have made a change for the better and that I am doing something proactive with regards to my health. And, at the beginning she and my children were my biggest supporters who offered me encouragement every day. But.......
Once my weight loss journey ended, my fitness journey started. A journey of 2 -3 runs per week + 2 martial arts classes per week + 2 - 3 weight training sessions per week + (when I have the $) a gymnastics class per week. Although my wife is not angry nor does she discourage my new found past times. But, she feels that I have become obsessed and she may be right? Because of our varied job schedules and my work out schedule we do not often do things together just the two of us. This disappoints her and it is up to me to adjust my life a little for her. I try but I know that I need to do more.
I am just very lucky that I am married to a patient person!0 -
My wife is very supportive. Since I am bulking now (and also not tracking intake for personal reasons) I let her decide where we go out to eat and I let her have most of the say in what we have for dinner and I structure my diet around that.
When I am cutting, which I'll begin around March, she will go back to measuring and counting the ingredients any time she makes dinner, and when we go out to eat I'll usually be the one to decide where, so that I'll be able to accurately hit my macro targets/etc.
I'm very fortunate.0 -
It was a rocky start with my SO. He didn't understand why I was doing it and was constantly giving me crap for counting calories, or lecturing me how bad running was for my knees, yadda yadda. But after a couple months and me dropping so much weight he's gotten on board. He's loving the way I'm starting to look again and really into encouraging me now. He;s also started eating better and about a week ago started a workout routine of his own. He;s really come around/0

My bf and I do this together. We both encourage each other in both diet and exercise. And are in a great journey together!0

My boyfriend won't even eat the healthy food I cook and makes no effort to support me directly.
All he says is
"Huh. Good for you."0 -
My husband is very encouraging and tells me how good I look and proud that I am doing so well. However, no matter what weight I have been at, he is always very complimentary. He has never in our 19 year marriage said I didn't look good. He loves my curves, although they have been a little curvier lately (ha). He could also afford to lose some weight but I never say anything about his body as he has never dogged on me. I am working on losing 40 pounds. 11 pounds so far!0

My wife is the same, except she's not as supportive.0 -
He brings junk food into the house, eats it in front of me. Offers me some, but I just say no.
He did say that he thought my body confidence would be good now because I lost "30 or so pounds" ... I had to explain that I'm not going to feel great about my body until I'm comfortable. He tries, but I'm not doing this for him, it's all for me.0 -
I am very fortunate to have a very supportive husband. When we first met 25 yrs ago we were both runners and cycled. After a lot of ups and downs, 2 kids and hip replacement, I'm trying to get back at it. He is actually ahead of me! But we share everything0

My fiance and I have decided together to not have junk food in the house and start eating healthier. We are doing this together and the exercise well we do walk together but I do workout videos when he is not home. Im embarressed to do them with him next to me. We have decided though if we ever can afford to go to the gym we will go together and do it together. I do keep high in fat foods around only for my almost 7 year old. She is underweigh she only weighs like 40 pounds. But she is healthy her doctors say and they say she is so active that is why she weighs what she weighs. Also I have to keep whole milk in the house for her as well. But my fiance is happy with me the way I am but he is supportive that if I want to loose weight to be happier than he said GO FOR IT!!
I do this so I can have more energy to do things with my daughter. I can hiopefully get my lung function back as I have asthma since I was 14. I want to look and feel attractive again and fit into nice cute clothes. Thats my reasons. Im not doing it for my fiance cause he said hes happy wiht me the way I am Im doing it for me and my daughter.
I need more friends on here and more motivation and feedback and encouragement if you'd like to add me feel free to do so !!! Thanks0 -
My wife is very supportive...she's not doing MFP, but she has been losing weight, namely because I do most of the cooking so she's eating what I'm eating and we're eating far smaller portions than we used to. We're also having more sex, so WINNING!0

My SO is very supprortive. He is losing weight too, I find often that we bounce off each other and if he does well one week it inspires me to do better next week and vice versa. I exercise and he doesnt really, but will always encourage me to do so if I am feeling down about it. Our relationship is much stronger since we started losing weight!0

Mine has run the whole map with me as we'll, sadly to say my first husband did too0

He thinks it's funny to wave a chips ahoy cookie in front of my face while I'm in front of the computer on MFP trying to log in my calories. Jokes on him though, since chips ahoy is NOT on my cheat worthy list. He will never find out what is.
It's like a spy movie, I have to be 2 steps ahead of each move he might make with snack and meal bars in my purse and coat, and stashed in secret spots in both cars. I have to time my shakes to drink them while I prepare meals to avoid temptation by smell, and sometimes have to supply an Oscar worthy performance at restaurants pretending to order a regular meal, but really calculating in my head the calories or just choosing my moment to order AFTER his menu's been taken away so he doesn't catch on I chose one of the easily identifiable "lite choices" that most restaurants have nowadays.
It's not that he doesn't support my diet it's that he doesn't support THIS diet I chose this time because he saw another diet work for me and it allowed plenty of indulgent foods which meant we could eat out a lot and eat the same foods. Also he is such a suspicious person that he is wary of the shakes having some kind of weight loss drug in them, but I read the label and they don't, they are just an easy way to get a pre measured amount of calories and enough fiber to stay full for awhile. I chose this diet over the other one because this one only requires cooking maybe once per day maybe not at all on days we go out, and I need it to be THAT easy this time. Weekends are the only time his shenanigans become an issue because we are together all day then, and his way of loving is giving being generous and food is part of that. He can't eat something amazing without immediately wanting to share it with me, me too though, so I get it.0 -
My fiancé remembered me when I was 120 lbs and when he saw that I was gaining weight, he tried not to hurt my feelings. For a few years, he tried to sit down with me and I basically took him seriously and I refused to talk about it with him. But eventually I realized I needed to change so I said I'm ready to talk and we sat down. We talked and ever since then, he has been really supportive to me. Our relationship became stronger and we've grown so much together. I still have a long way to go but it certainly changed our perspectives on food and exercise. He would eat what I eat. We appreciate everything now.0
