Do you dye your hair? Pro/con

I dye mine. It's been brown, blonde, red, blue, purple, pink, etc. I've settled on a nice bright red. I like to experiment0

it's just hair. cut it. dye it. it grows back.
on the flip side, nice wigs are affordable and allow you to change hairstyles regularly without chemicals OR scissors.0 -
You could always just add highlights as well if you're a little nervous about it.0

I've coloured my hair on and off over the years, but never anything wildly different from my natural colour simply because I can't always be bothered to do the roots when necessary.0

I don't dye my hair like I used to. I started dying my hair at a very young age (in 6th grade). I did that because I liked being different and looking different. From that point on, I could not stop dying my hair until the end of college (I was pretty hooked, lol). I tried practically every color, even all the colors of the rainbow...except green I think, lol. But, yes, my hair Did eventually dry out a lot and it split like crazy at the ends. The splits wil travel up to the root of my hair and my hair would shed easily.
Sometime toward the middle/end of college, I stopped dying my hair and let it grow out. My hair is shiny and healthy and looks great...I mean..I will admit I enjoyed having brighter/differently colored hair, but I am pretty content with my hair as it is now. Sometime last year or the year before I decided to ask a stylist to add several highlights to my hair as I finally got bored with my natural color...but, I find it still satisfying while maintaining the overall health of my natural hair. This way, the base of my hair is still mine and there there are a few highlights she added in. Maybe go for a few highlights instead??0 -

Try it It's just hair, it will grow out if you don't like it.
If you're looking for a chemical free dye you can try Henna. It's all I've used the past 3 years and it's pretty awesome. It really makes my hair shiney and smooth, thicker and fixes dry scalp. Oh and the color doesn't fade....ever....it has to grow out. This is great for me because I love the color, but not so much if it turns out a color you don't like
It's not easy to do and colors are limited, but I'll never go back to chemical dyes again.0 -

I love henna as well, but a couple notes-
I have naturally curly hair, henna loosens the curls to a soft wave that falls out within 24 hours of washing it. Using a conditioner with amla will help.
Henna is not damaging like regular hair color, it improves frizz and strengthens hair, and the clear stain means most people will get a nice reddish shade that suits their skintone- BUT it's 100% permanent. As in it is not going to be any other shade but the red-orange spectrum unless you chop it off. The color will get less intense over time but never goes away.
Be sure to buy Body Art Quality Henna, you should get a powder that smells kind of like hay. If it comes with a bottle of "developer," throw it away, it will mess you up. If you want to use henna and mix it with other herbs for conditioning and colors other than red-orange, I suggest a website called "hennaforhair.com."0 -
I dye my hair, I've dyed it every color of the rainbow since I was a preteen. It's currently red. My natural color is dirty blond and it just doesn't suit me.0

I color my hair all the time, I've been everything from blonde to black to purple to bright red. I am also a hairstylist. Please go to a salon if its your first time coloring your hair. A good stylist will help you pick up a color that not only do you love but will flatter your skin tone and even bring out your eyes. The wrong color can wash you out and emphasize any imperfections while the right color will diminish any imperfections.0

I used to use punky colors and manic panic. Really, bleach it first.
I used to dye it blue and midnight blue.
Then I wanted a job in the real world, so I had to dye it back and get it cut.
If you can get away with it, I recommend dying it.0 -
<---- Manic Panic... It is a temporary dye.. It has no chemicals and I love the colors... I am pretty bold when it comes to doing my hair though...
I also use Manic Panic or directions dyes. They are non permanent vegetable dyes and are actually GOOD for your hair, and they don't contain peroxide or lifting agents so they won't alter your natural colour underneath. It will simply wash away over time0 -
I coloured mine purple for a bit. I was too lazy to maintain it, though. If you want to do it, I recommend semi-permanent dye because it doesn't have the damaging ammonia that permanent dyes have. The brand I used was Adore.0

I've found I can get away with the darker reds and purples in the working world.0 -
I have for years and years but only the wash out kind and never do it yourself. Should make your. hair healthy and shiny not dried out. What dryer it is peroxide in those permanent home jobs0

I've had my hair colored at salons and then recolored back to my original color when I'm sick of it. It goes in cycles of like six months to a year then I feel I need a "change". It's fine it can go back to normal as long as it isn't damaged and therefore needs to be cut off. Go with someone who knows what they are doing and it should be easy to get back to normal whatever that is for you.0

I am the Queen of hairdye. I've been dying my hair since I was 15 years old, literally! I have had almost every color under the sun (blonde, brown, dark brown, black, blue, purple, pink, red, cherry red, etc.)
You have a nice light hair color now. If you are afraid of damage/upkeep, I suggest getting some brown highlights to give yourself some dimension, and they wont look terrible when it grows out. I will say that if you go lighter, it will damage your hair more then if you go darker...BUT if you go darker, it's much harder to get back to a light color.
For example, I dyed my hair black and when I wanted to go back to blonde, it took weeks and over 100 bucks..and my hair felt really damaged.0 -
I started dying my hair in college just for a change. Well, I dyed it a couple times in high school, but once was just the tips and the other was a brighter version of my then strawberry blonde hair. In college I dyed it a dark brown that ended up looking black. I liked it well enough, and yes I felt stuck with it for years. A couple years ago I just started dying it gradually lighter until my roots weren't so crazy looking, and grew it out. Last year I got super impulsive and buzzed my head (which was AWESOME) so I'm officially back to my natural color. The thing is, my natural hair color is now a pretty cool toned light brown and I think it suits my very pink skin tone nicely. And my hair is as soft as ever.
The moral of the story is, it's just hair.0
