I don't think it's funny I just think it's rare to see a girl squat w/weight and proper form.

You shouldn't be. I'm only speaking on my experiences in my locality.

I have a PT once a week specifically for resistance training.

    Im conscious of form.

I do a lot of research too!

Why would a woman's form be incorrect but a mans not? All got to start somewhere right?

I don't think it is funny at all...however, I do agree with the poster, I think it is not AS common to see the woman the the gym squatting using correct form. I think there are reasons behind this: there is a misconception about heavy lifting "bulking" women up, I don't see as many women lifting heavy and those that are, seem to be doing it wrong. However, there are a lot of men doing it wrong as well, just to be fair.

I don't think this man was being rude at all it's a thread ppl will comment on it lol He just stated his opinion.
But at the gym I see some women who kick *kitten* at lifting and some men who are clueless. It's not gender its experience......

Who cares what other people think? You're doing this for you, not for them.

I wasn't trying to be negative. I was only stating that it's rare. I see just as many guys deadlifting incorrectly as women. I just don't see alot of women squating with the barbell period b/c of the fear of the whole bulking thing. Geez calm down people.

i agree - who cares! let them think what they want. you should keep lifting/pressing/squatting as best as you can and ask for help with form and technique when you arent sure.

i just started strength training and i love it!

I've actually never experienced men laughing at women squatting. I have had guys come up and give me kudos for it, though, and tell me I lift more than they do, or that they like that I lift "old school" barefoot.

I think it's equally common to see men and women making mistakes on their squats, but it tends to be different mistakes. Women are actually, as a whole, more form conscious than men but afraid to add weight. In general, men tend to pile a ton of weight on and go 1/4 of the way down. At least mistakes made with good form aren't dangerous.

Y'all thought that was rude, wait until someone comes along with the answer I was expecting.

There isn't a polite answer. It was like asking a man if you are fat.

Not funny... you're misinterpreting the evil sexual glare...

by the way...this should be in chit chat as it has only a peripheral attachment to fitness and exercise.

Why do some women waste time thinking about what some men think?

Because some women are doing it for attention from men.

    ^this

At the gym I go to, I never see women doing squats with the barbell, they always go for the machines. I actually prefer it that way because it leaves the barbell for me :) I think a lot of people (male or female) don't think about proper form when they're at the gym. I focus on form over amount of weight, but that's how I've been taught. I don't know that I've ever seen or heard anyone laugh at a female at the gym, from my experience people are too busy with what they're doing to worry about other people.

Men think it's funny (Iaughing), or men simply staring at women who are squatting/leg pressing?

If it's the latter, then I like to think it's because men have dirty minds and are imagining what those muscles might be used for later...

I have found that in many sports/activities that have traditionally been men's activities, a higher percentage of women have good form than men.

I have coached men's and women's high school rugby and also seen a lot of women in the gym.

The women tend to not feel the need to pretend they know what they are doing and are more open to coaching.
Many guy's think it threatens their manhood if they don't walk in like they own the place.

(edit: and I don't know about laughing. admiring maybe, but not laughing. )

I think girls doing squats is sexy.

    Leg press, not so much.

But I don't find either funny.
