Can't they just change it to non contact flag football?

That would be the Pro Bowl

Yeah - I was hooker in the 15 man game.

From Salford originally though, so I understand the 13 man game...

Concussions are all Bush's fault.....just ask the democrats.

This is dumb and not funny at all.
Way to take a valid thread and make unreadable.

This is a political thread...duh, when a politician wants to ban something...it's political! Are you a star on Jay-Walking???

It's not a political thread. The article doesn't mention a politician thinking about outlawing football at all. It says in the first paragraph that the president commented on the safety of the sport, and then goes into ways tools the game safer. The title of the thread, has little to nothing to do with the content of the article. It would be like me linking to an article on healthy eating and titling a thread "Outlawing Chocolate?!?! REALLY??!??!!!??!?11eleventy"

Now there may be politicians out there who do want to get rid of the game, I don't know. What I do know from reading the article, is that no politician was quoted as saying so.

The most sense I have read on this article..... agree with you sir.

Rather than make the usual joke, I'll just say that the name of that position is rather unfortunate.

I disagree with reading the article. Nobody should have read it. Ruins a perfectly good thread.

    Good luck with that...

Exactly. Texas netted $94 billion last year and spent $95 Billion. They are one of the top receivers of federal funds to the tune of $40 billion annually. Shutting down Fort Hood alone would cost around $4 Billion. With this deficit spending, Texas would have to build a military and their own federal government system meaning that taxes would have to be increased substantially.

Texas had to join the US because they were so in debt to begin with after separating from Mexico. Should history repeat itself?

Exactly. California is not constantly waiving the succession flag. They realize that they are part of a symbiotic relationship with the rest of the states. California is actually projecting a budget surplus next year after a comprehensive plan of spending cuts and tax increases.

As the previous two said, it will never happen.
But I do believe technology and money needs to go into better protective equiptment.

The lifelong injuries these players sustain me makes me quite sad. However, let's not lie to ourselves.
These men I think know what they are signing up for.

There were far fewer serious injuries when there was less protective equipment. If they got rid of the helmets and went back to the old leather caps....the players would stop launching themselves at each other like missiles, and there woudl be far fewer head injuries. And if they would just go back to good old fashioned tackling, wrapping up and dragging to the ground rather than just trying to hit someone as hard as they can....that would help as well.

I beleive less technology and equipment is the answer.

It has always puzzled Britons why you feel you need to wear a suit of armour to play some strange game of rugby that appears to take all afternoon.

I like this reasoning. Further, if they abolished seat belts in cars then people would drive a whole lot more safely and there would be fewer crash related fatalities.

the OP takes those assumptions and amps it up more just to get people to get up in arms.
I wasn't amping anything (at least not on purpose)....just surprised that a sports writer would think that the sport of American Football be outlawed. Doing so would remind me of the movie Demolition Man. The futuristic move where there is zero contact with humans, no TP (you have to use the 3 sea shells) and the only fast food chain that survived was Taco Bell.

Where in the article does the writer say that football should be outlawed?

    Quoted from the article.

"Some seem to be on this crusade to change or shut down the game one day."

"What’s concerning for the game is the fact that the American justice system might decide if the game stays or goes — if lawsuits are ever won blaming schools or NFL teams for brain damage suffered playing football, the sport will become extinct. Youth leagues, high schools, colleges and the NFL won’t have the money or won’t find an insurance company willing to cover future court action. They will just have to put up the football equipment for good.".

It was not the writer, just his comments about others in higher power opinions on the sport. My apologies.

    I concur.

And also abolishing trigger locks would lead to fewer children getting a hold of unlocked guns because parents would put the guns on higher surfaces out of reach.

If you would just have more faith in people then people would give you more reason to have more faith in them.

"Pretty" in Rugby terms is doing your best not to look like this:
