I have been on MFP since Jan. 12th so I am new at this...I have lost 5 pounds in about a month. I am trying hard to stay motivated and just wanted to know if you would share how long it has taken you to lose the weight so far. Thank you.

Congrats i haven't lost weight so I'm not an expert, but from what I read 4-6 pounds a month is perfect. Anything more & the skin doesn't umm..."elastic back"(there's a term I'm forgetting haha)0

22 pounds in 4 years, 0 in January. Yee-ha! I'm really on a roll.0

My fitnessversary is March 5th and I have lost 106 pounds in almost a year.0

This is completely inaccurate. Does my stomach look saggy? Nope. Depends on your genes, age, etc.0 -

That's awesome and I am sure you feel so much better... and, no, your stomach doesn't look saggy...that's what I am concerned about too....sagging skin.0 -
It's almost a year, and it's been a long hard road with some emotional delays including a miscarriage that set me back. I'm here though I havent left. My weight is back on the decline after about a 2 month stall with a rapid gain. I dont know if you struggle with a disordered relationship with food, but it makes this journey not only difficult but a battle. However, I'm not giving up hope. I know that if I'm doing something better each day I should see progress. I've gone from about 360-307lbs on MFP. I lost a little bit before that, but the support and food diary tool on MFP really helps me to stay on track. This is never going to end I for the rest of my life will have to portion control my food, track it, and exercise. This isnt going to be easy. But I am going to be one of the success stories there is no choice. I've accepted it and have move on. Excited to see the next change.
My motivation is to make choices better. It's simple for me. I cant get it too complicated thats when I fail. I figure that I need to decide what is more important to me achieving my goals, getting healthier, or eating this food item. I am going to get old thats going to happen and evenually die, I have no choice in that matter but I can choose how I want to get older. I'm chosing to get older hopefully healthy and independent.
My motivation is the fact I can choose.
Oh I've also accepted the fact that I will have saggy skin and I'm greatful for good plastic surgeons and tattoo artists.0 -
34 lbs lost in 4 months
Start weight-2750 -
I'm almost a year in exactly.
While you can look at all of these tickers, dates started, and stories around them... understand this:
It isn't the same for everyone. The process is, yeah, but not the result. I started at 337, so I had plenty more to lose. If you're already down 5lbs since Jan. 12, just keep doing what you're doing. Make sure you're eating enough as it's easy to jump on the wrong mindset of "I eat less, I weigh less."
Also, I have no idea what the finished version of me is... but I'll take sagging skin around the stomach versus a higher likelihood of dealing with diabetes/heart disease/etc later on. Pretty good trade.
Best of luck.0 -
Mine was 38 lbs in about 8 months.0

up to 10lbs a month was a good rate for me.. Some months more some less, just dont get discouraged, it will come off.0
-
50 lbs in 15 months...I don't concentrate too much on the number though, mostly my clothing sizes.
I've gone from a size 20/22 - 12/13 in those 15 months as well. It's not always about the number on the scale!0 -
It all really depends on how much you want to lose. It is very important to not only do cardio but strength training to tone your body. Remember that this is a lifestyle change, not a diet. If not you will see the weight come back likely.0

20 Lbs in about 3 months...averaging about 1.25 Lbs per week. It hasn't been linear...sometimes it's .5 Lbs and then the next week it's 1.5 Lbs...then .8 Lbs and then 2 Lbs, etc. When I average it out over these last few months it comes out to about 1.25 Lbs per week with my goal set at TDEE - 20% (~ 1 Lb per week for me).0

Thank you...I just have to patient like everyone else... I have to tell myself I can do it this time. I have failed time after time before... but I am quite motivated now. Tired of being called obese by the doctors.0 -
I have lost 30 pounds in about 6 months. Stick with it, 5 pounds a month is perfect in my not-in-any-way-expert opinion!
Prior to cracking down on MFP, I lost about 50 pounds over a 2 year period. Since my 30 pound loss to bring me down to my goal weight, I've actually gone down 10 more pounds. Now on maintenance I fluctuate up and down approximately 5-10 pounds under my goal.
Trust me, after 6 months of losing 5 pounds a month, I feel SO much healthier and I am living a lifestyle that I am comfortable with and am able to maintain for the future.
Keep at it, you can do it! And after 6 months, everyone will notice the difference0 -
Not all of them were done with the aid of MFP, but I've lost 37 pounds since September.
5 pounds per month is well within the generally quoted recommended 1-2 pounds per week.0 -
5 pounds is great. Never let yourself be discouraged by that. It's 5 pounds you'll never get back
I've lost 12 pounds in 4 weeks but everyone is different. I have some friends who have only lost 2. Every pound counts.0 -
I started using MFP regularly at the very end of August. So Sept was my first full month (I think). I had already lost a little I believe only about 5 or so when I started logging.
So in approx 5 months or so I have lost about 53 ish. But starting off from such a high number is the reason that is a slightly high loss rate. I have been slowing down overall.0 -
4 years give or take, burst here and there. when i am on a reduced intake i aim for 2 lbs a week but am generally happy if i can hit 5 lbs a month.0
-
if it helps make you feel better really you havent even hit the 3 week mark yet on mfp and you have 5 lbs, thats about 2 lbs a week0
-
55lb in 10 months. Had about 2 months with no loss all up though.0
-
7 kgs in 6 months, even though I gained about a kg back.0
-
I've only been on here 3 weeks and have lost 9lbs. Only 75 more to go ????0
-
470 days today  110 pounds since Oct 2011 - in the beginning it was 10# a month (yeah, I have a lot to lose), now it's only a few pounds a month. It's all good as long as it's going in the right direction and you're happy with the changes0
-
7 pounds so far in I think 2 months? I just started using this again so I was only keeping track for a month maybe. But I stopped drinking regular pop and lost almost 5 pounds from just that!0
-
It's taken me a year to lose just over 20 lbs. I had 35 I wanted to lose when I started a year ago and now it's down to about 13. It's gone pretty slow for me, but I'm 3 lbs away from being considered a normal BMI and I'm down to was is acceptable BF% so I know it's going to take hard work and patience to get this last 13 lbs off0
