Who told you that? People with no muscle definition?
My boyfriend likes my muscles. (And yes, he is still a hell of a lot stronger than me)

    Here's what I say:

"Good thing I'm not trying to look attractive for YOU, then. My body, my problem"

Today I talked about starting to weight lift and this is what I got:

'Women who have muscles have ugly bodies, only tone what you have. You don't want to look ugly.'

'You shouldn't look stronger then your husband, you need to look like you compliment him.'

'Make sure you get help, you don't want to make your body horrendous looking. '

Well, you know what? I think a muscular woman is beautiful and I am going to make me the most beautiful me I can. And you want to know what? Since I have started this journey, I now am able to open a jar by myself. I was never able to before hand. Being strong is beautiful. I want to say, all you women with muscles you are beautiful no matter how big or small they are. You are strong and I can't wait to be strong too.
The first response is just a matter of opinion which you don't happen to share.
The second response is some sort of "women need to be subservient" crap.
And the third response is an old outdated idea that has been dis-proven time and time again.

I'm glad you are now able to open jars by yourself. Now go open a jar of "whoop-*kitten*" on all the people who are trying to crap on your dreams.

I had a very unfit friend tell me that women with muscles were gross (she knew I lifted when she said this.) I was pissed, but I enjoy my muscles more than she enjoys her lack of them.

Just don't talk to people about what you are doing, this goes for nutrition as well. Everyone's an 'expert' and you can almost guarantee that according to them you're doing it wrong...

I would too. Muscles are great. (and you do have some good ones!) That is why I am going to move on from this. I'm going to just do what I do and when they see me next and rave about how good I look, i'm just going to say thanks!

If you really want to get them back...have patience. Wait until you see them struggling with something relatively heavy one day, offer help, pick it up with ease, walk a few steps, sit it back down, and say "nevermind...it looks like you can really use the exercise, because this is incredibly light".

Just shows how ignorant those comments are. The worst thing that would happen to you is you'd inherit Dana Linn Bailey's body... oh the misery!

You are strong and I can't wait to be strong too.

Well wait no longer because you already are. Just taking this stand, forgiving those making noise, and moving forward makes you a warrior woman. Carry on!

Dear sweet baby Jesus that woman is hot...I'm still more partial to Sarah Bäckman though, but that could be due to my odd love of everything Swedish.

OP You should check out this thread. It's old so a lot of the pics don't show anymore, but it's awesome. Definitely worth browsing!

i like lifting weights, nothing too crazy, but holy smokes, it makes a huge difference at my job ........ I can lift 50 pound bags of dog food at the animal hospital ..... and bring it out to the client's car ..... and carry on a conversation at the same time

And one time an elderly 65 pound Irish setter collapsed while I was walking her ...... well, I picked that dog up & carried her back into the hospital, poor thing ..... couldn't leave her outside, could I ????

Do what you gotta do & have a great time !

Nothing is better for your health, stamina, strength and appearance than lifting heavy. Find out what is heavy for you and go lift that thing!!! :drinker:

Oh I so agree with the OP. I'd love to have well defined muscles..... yes I'm female. I prefer that on a woman than just 'toned' sorry. I think muscles on females....as long as it's not body building stage (you know those big big ones that makes them look more like men?) then they actually look kinda sexy. I want that.....I'm on my way to that. I worked out hard today on getting to that.

Those people are FOOLS! I only lose weight when I'm lifting. If I'm only doing cardio and small amounts of weight lifting, I stay kaput. When I actually do serious strength training, bye bye weight! Hello sexy toned me! :)

Don't bother justifying yourself. Life your life the way you want to, and don't worry about them. At the end of the day, the only person you have to live with is yourself--So make sure you like that person!
  • I have no idea who you call "friends" but they may need a hand up out of the dark ages and some soap for their mouths. What kind of people say such hurtful things?

Go lift those weights! Lift them strongly and proudly!

People are dumb when it comes to women and weights. Just ignore them :)
