I was brought up within spitting distance of Headingley, my schools were all linked to Carnegie and one of my first memories as a child was Leeds playing Wigan ... I think I prefer league, but union is still 100x better than watching poofball.

The fact remains that the other team may technically, merely score more points but no one can ever truly beat the Welsh at rugby.

Neither side looked like the teams that scored 30+ points last week.

All I can say is: Come on Wales!!!

Am I the only person who misses the old running, passing game that died when so many League coaches came into the Union game on professionalisation - playing the ball off the ground used to be illegal and we had to just let the ball roll away - now "playing off the ground" seems to be not only allowed but essential to keep the ball in play, hence instead of getting the ball out to the wings the forwards run straight at the opposition, knowing that they will keep the ball unless someone is bloody stupid. As for "lifting in the line-out", this used to be so graceful when it was illegal, now it just looks stupid (and dangerous).

...and another thing, In school we always had to line up in straightline to the goal for a place kick so it always went off at an angle, nowadays they run up at a right angle to the direction of the kick.

There is a distinct lack of Scotland support on this thread.

I'm aiming for not getting the wooden spoon this year. woohoo.

England all the way. Not the most exciting game against Ireland but at the end of the day it's the result that counts!

Gotta go for Scott Johnson led Scotland team... Have never met a nicer, gentler man in rugby (well, maybe John Eales) - though he's looking more prop than 5/8th these days.

Roll on the Lions tour to my fair land - will be interesting to see what the Wobblies will be able to produce....

Sadly so far this year the six nations has had some interesting results. I say sadly because the games have been pretty uninspiring.

I'm English, my housemate is French. There are many things to taunt a Frenchy about...

    Swing looooooooooooow.........sweeeeeeeet chariottttttt.......:drinker:

Nice little warm up game to start the tournament........lol

I'll wait for that to come back and bite me in the *kitten*!

I love the fact the English have adopted this song...especially as it originates from the deep Welsh valleys!

Good luck but I think this is your year:grumble: :grumble:
It originates in Oklahoma - but it does reach its most glorious moments in the valleys of south Wales (unless you count that lot from Oooop North). It's the song that the Scots get away with that amuses me - has no one actually listened to the words? ( ...and sent him homeward to think again")

I'm Scottish and hate Flower of Scotland, I don't understand why an anthem should be anti another nation. It should just be patriotic.

But while on the subject, God save the Queens no better "And like a torrent rush, Rebellious Scots to crush".

Just hoping for a good tournament and some great Rugby from all

It actually isn't an anti English song, it is only anti Edward II, and calling for the Scot's to unite again one day, the lyrics never actually attack us English, unlike the above attack on the Scots.

Personally think it's a great song for match day, along with the Irish and Welsh anthems.

I know God Save the Queen is the official anthem but personally, think the English should have 2 like the Irish, one as the official and the other to stir the blood!

When the pipe band play Highland Cathedral before the team run out it has the same effect on me. (Great tune, written by 2 german pipe enthusiasts).

To be fair hate was probably too strong a word, I just don't like references to others in an anthem. I belt it out at Murrayfield with the best of them. (Although thankfully theres a few thousand people drowning out my awful singing).

I totally agree England should get a stirring anthem, get's the fans going as well as the team (Although Dallaglio never seemed to have that problem)
