I love the stuff (all natural with NOTHING added- just delicious almondy goodness!) I like a tablespoon of it on wheat toast with a drizzle of honey for dessert, or mixed into some lowfat cottage cheese for a snack. How do you like to use almond butter????

I love it. I can't buy it either, because I can't practise portion control with it. Way too addictive for me.
  • I like almond butter, but every time I have it I wish it were peanut butter...

I've been wanting to buy some for a few months now, but the $6 price tag has always stopped me. lol. I love peanut butter, so I can only imagine I'll be totally addicted to almond butter.

I actually prefer the taste of almond butter over peanut butter which is why I buy it. Sadly, I have an unopened jar of it in my pantry because I'm just not hungry for it lately. I usually eat it with banana on top of crackers.

I was so excited to try almond butter because I LOVE peanut butter and knew almond would be healthier.

But...ick. ick. ick. I ended up throwing it out because it was super nasty.

Is there a specific brand that's preferred? I'm willing to give it another go but would love your inputs.

Also, has anyone tried sunflower butter? I've heard that's good too.
  • i used some to make granola bars!! yummo!!! but first i pour off all the oil on top!

I've never tried it, but I'm looking for a lower calorie alt to peanut butter. Can someone tell me the calories/serving?

Not sure if the brand makes a difference, but I recently bought some almond butter (MaraNatha brand) and it has the same stats as my Skippy peanut butter give or take. Same calories (190), same Carbs (2%) and everything else.

Maybe I just need to find a different brand?

You can check out something called PB2 as an alternative to Peanut Butter. Almond Butter isn't that much lower cal because it's still a nut. BUUUT....if youre doing paleo you can use Almon Butter as an alternative to peanut butter since you're not supposed to have peanuts.
  • With a scoop of low carb chocolate ice cream or on my veggies!

Almond Butter is easy to make with a food processor. I use 2 cups almonds, (one cup is roasted, salted, and one cup raw), & I add 1/4 cup unsweetened coconut. Process it for 10 minutes or so, stopping often to scrape down sides. It seems like it will never work, but eventually it does get to a perfect consistency. This method is SO much cheaper & SO delicious.

I like it on apple slices. I bet it would be yummy on some good dark chocolate, in moderation of course!
  • When you find a lower alterntive on peanut butter - let me know. I thought I was doing good using all natural but it is no lower in calories ... and I love peanut butter.
  • Where does everyone get their almond butter? The only place I know of that sells it is whole foods and its like $14/lb. Its all natural and its made right there which I love so I know there's nothing extra thats added. When I first got it I had to remind myself that its made from almonds and not peanuts so its going to taste like...well, almonds lol. I think that might be why some people find it disgusting.

I put it on bananas, in smoothies...I'm going to try this toast thing though...If I get a toaster that is.

Hey Dontworri, when you say you add unsweetened coconut to make your own almond butter, do you mean coconut flakes, coconut milk, coconut oil, or some other form of coconut I'm not aware of? And how much does your recipe make?

    Thanks!

anyone know if almond butter has arachidonic acid in it? my neurologist suggested that i stop eating peanut products because it has high levels of arachidonic acid that may cause inflammation and migraines. i love peanut butter and it's been really tough eliminating it from my diet, but i've noticed that when i "cheat" and sneak some PB, the migraine is soon to follow. i was wondering if almond butter would be a sensible alternative or if it has the same types of amino acids as peanut butter. any ideas?
