Seriously.

"The easy way to stop smoking"
Alan Carr

Best book I've ever read. It worked for me and many many many people I know. I don't know one person who has read it and continues smoking.

Obviously doesnt work for everyone. So now you do "know" someone who it hasnt worked for.

Actually I don't "know" that person and I'm not "sure" why that was in quotes.

Thank you for your open hostility. I'm not sure what I did to upset you, but I can't be more sorry.
  • I agree...best book ever!! I've been a non-smoker for six weeks now and feel amazing!!!

I read that book too and it worked for me. I quit in October of 2011 and will never smoke again. I wish all smokers would read that book, seems so simple. My boyfriend and best friend also read it and are now ex-smokers too. The only people I know that it doesn't work for is the people that don't bother to finish it.

I wish there was a "Easy Way to Stop Being a Fat-*kitten*" book. Way harder to lose weight than quit smoking, IMO.

WIN! Hahaha I laughed so hard when I read that! Wouldn't it be awesome though?

I read the book but didn't quit.

I learned a lesson from the book though. You're not going to give up smoking until you yourself are ready.

I quit in March 2011, 2 years next month! Woop! :)
  • Nope. :smokin:

Speaking of that. I was heading out for a smoke about 1/2 an hour ago and got distracted. Thanks!

I actually didn't even realize I quit smoking cigarettes while reading this book. Yes, I had an e-cigarette, but by the end of the book, I had quit it all!!! That book is amazing!!! This man knows his stuff!!!

Yes, I will. I quit cold turkey when I was 30 and didn't smoke again for over 18 years. Now I'm just a rebel. :smokin: :smokin: :smokin:

I read it and quit for 41 days. Then failed. But I'm reading it again.
  • Champix tablets (3rd go, I think) still off them 636 days later, saved myself £3056.00 so far, not smoked 9550 cigarettes and wouldn't go back if you paid me

*I have an app on my phone that tells me all those statistics and health benefits ;-)

EcigPros.com - My mom has COPD and would smoke anything and everything she could get her hands on. I live in Florida, so I was able to find this Electric Cigarette for her. It has refillable cartridges. She has been using it now for 8 months (she will never quit smoking as she has the beginning of dementia) and this delivers a full puff of "smoke" - water vapor. I have tried it and its quite delightful........the thing is, you can buy the liquid to put in the cartridges at anywhere from 36mg of nicotine all the way down to zero........it has helped alot of people.......Just my two cents:)

** oh, and the turn around delivery for the mail order is only a couple of days.......if you email them questions, they get back to you in the same day......good luck honey......I know how hard it is to quit.......former 2 pack a dayer.......quit almost 20 years now.

Great book! I read it a couple of times. I wasn't successful quitting directly after reading it. But it did help in my process.

What actually helped me finally quit was group therapy and Chantix. Through a wellness center associated with a hospital here in Chicago, they had an 8 week group therapy session coupled with a prescription for Chantix.

I originally had major problems with hellish lucid terror nightmares on Chantix. But then I cut the dosage in half. I still had some pretty weird vivid dreams but they weren't scary like before. I figured whats worse, a couple months of funky dreams and being smoke free for the rest of my life or NOT having weird dreams and slowly killing myself by continuing to smoke.

The skills, concepts and mindset I learned from the Alan Carr book really really helped though!

good for both of you! i will say though, my grandma was a smoker for 50 years and just about gave it up when she got dementia. we never knew if it was because she couldn't always remember she smoked or if she just didn't care anymore. i think the ecigs are a good alternative (from what i know of them) if you have to have that feeling.

I don't want to quit smoking yet, but will give this book a read when I feel I am ready. I hear a lot about it. I sincerely doubt it will force an aversion to smoking, but every little bit helps when you're ready.

I haven't read the book but switched from cigarettes to a vaporizer 5 months ago. I started with 18mg of nicotine and have steadily decreased my intake. This past week I have been using 3mg strength, next week will be 1.5, then FINALLY down to zero!! I've quit cold turkey in the past, but it never had any real longevity for me. I'm looking forward to finally being a nonsmoker after over 15 years of poisoning my body. Good luck to everyone trying to quit!!! :flowerforyou:

I don't know why he chose to act like that, but he put know in quotes because you don't KNOW-know that person, but you know them in the sense that you have now interacted with them somewhat. It's what quotes do! :)

I quit smoking years ago because I simply couldn't afford it, never heard of this book. What does it contain? Does it teach something like self-hypnosis? It would be neat if it could be applied to other bad habits, like nail biting, maybe.

edit: When I quit, I was given some Nicorette-type product, I should add. It wasn't cold turkey. I disliked the Nicorette stuff so much that I only used in emergency though.

It doesn't actually "force an aversion", it gets you to look at the reasons as to why you smoke, then asks you to do a self analysis on what you would be doing if you weren't.

Thanks for posting this. I have never been able to quit and although I do enjoy smoking I know I need to quit.
I will be looking for this book !

I've tried countless number of times and always failed to quit.

I read the book last year, but unfortunately it didn't spur me on to give up the cigarettes altogether, I slowly started smoking more and more until I was back on 20-25 a day.

I think my main issue is, I feel as though I enjoy it, I know the book blatantly spells out that it isn't enjoyable, which I understand, but I can't quite set my mind to believe that. I'm also near smoke wherever I go, my girlfriend smokes, my brothers smoke, all of my friends smoke and non have shown any interest in quitting. So when I do try and give up, temptation is never far away.

This week I have changed from buying cigarettes to buying rolling tobacco and making my own 'roll-ups'. I'm moving house at the end of September and simply cannot justify over £50 a week on packets. This has always been the main motivation for me though, financial savings. The health issue has never been at the forefront of my mind.

I still have a copy of the book, and when I'm sat in my nice new garden in little over 5 weeks time, I may just open it up and give it another try.

I'm not trying to put anyone off reading the book, I can totally see why it has worked for so many people, I guess I just tried it at the wrong time and wasn't committed to wanting to quit.
