It can look great, the trick is in making it subtle... http://www.glamour.com/beauty/blogs/girls-in-the-beauty-department/2010/08/do-or-dont-matching-your-eyesh.html0

I never knew that it even mattered. I'm not being sarcastic either.
It doesn't.
If you have an eye for it anything can work. There are no hard, fast rules when it comes to fashion.0 -

Wait wait...who's horny and not getting sufficient attention? :huh:0 -
nobody's talking about intensity or placement of shadow... i think there's a way to wear it and make it work. if you use the matching shadow as an accent or an eyeliner (with a neutral like taupe, ivory or grey over the rest of the lid), that can be really pretty and striking without being too much. also, if the shadow is a sheer version of the color (not opaque and painted-on like drew carey's mimi), you can get away with it over the whole lower part of the lid (though probably not above the crease).
personally, when i want my eye makeup to match my outfit, i like to do a neutral smoky eye, then use the color as either upper or lower eyeliner (usually not both at once; i'll do upper in the color and lower in a neutral, or vice versa)
Best advice. The vast majority of cosmetics articles (not to mention my friends who are licensed cosmetologists) recommend similar things if you want to match.0 -
As a general rule, I try to stick with neutral smoky, or colours that compliment each other - e.g. a purple top with gold shadow. It's good to experiment though colours that may seem tacky in theory can sometimes work really well.0

I thought it was supposed to match...(like clothes and accessories, if you're wearing it, it should at least go with)...but I'm not up on that stuff. Seems like the majority of people think it's bad, but I happen to like matchin, or at least using the same color. On the other hand, I'm either rushing to work or wearing casual clothes, so I rarely do eye shadow.
Sorry I can't help, but interesting topic. Good luck!0 -
I go more with color temperature than actual matching. If I'm wearing warm colors, I might go for browns, golds and coppers, with warm lip colors, too. If I'm wearing cool colors, I might go for purples or greys, and cooler lip colors. Mostly, though, I stick with neutral.
Think "goes with," not "matches."0 -
I used to work with a lady who would do her nails every night to match the colour of her next day's clothes.
Finger and toenails.
That, to me, is over the top. Eyeshadows... It depends on the outfit and general style.0 -
I've never even heard of this before. I choose eye make-up based on what I want to wear and whether I think it goes with what I'm wearing. Having it match or not match with the blouse has never even crossed my mind, although I can't see what would be bad about it unless it was over the top. Over the top anything is not good IMO.
I rarely wear make-up at all though, so I probably don't know much lol0
