I have been at a standstill for about 3 weeks. I was on 1200 net with the occasional cheat weekend. I changed over to 1450, but I would purposely be 200 or so under for the day to make up for eating over at all on weekends.

I am now going to work on netting 1550 a day and not obsessing over minor cheat weekends. I will see how this works and update!

I just recently increased mine to 1700...still trying to eat all that, but will update later.
  • This is great -- I've been plateauing for about five months now, bouncing between 140 and 143 pretty consistently. I'm going to try upping my calories from 1200 to 1800 over the next two weeks to see what happens. Thanks for the success stories, all!

I follow Weight Watchers points. When I was losing, I was down to 26 points a day. To see how many calories I was taking in I started tracking on MFP; it was about 1200. I've since stopped going to WW meetings but still track with points and continue with MFP. After reaching my goal weight at WW my points were increased. I am taking in 30-32 points a day; some a little more and some less. This works out to about 1500 calories a day. Again some days slightly more, some less. I am losing a little but not a lot now. In total I've lost 78 lbs from first weigh in at WW to yesterday. Since trying to maintain, a month ago, I've lost 3 lbs. So I consider that pretty good. If I continue to lose(don't think I will, 3 in a month is really nothing) I will tweak my calories/points by another 100 calories or 2 points.

I also started out 1200+ exercise calories and it wasn't near enough food & I lost not even 3 lbs in 6 wks. Now I've been at TDEE -20% (I only want to lose 5-7.5 lbs more) but I've noticed on my P90X rest weeks I lose more doing nothing and eating TDEE -20% so I suspect I'd do better with an extra 200 calories a day while working out

As long as you eat clean, you're body needs more calories. 1800 calories of processed low fat foods, cheeseburgers, and sugar is different than 1800 calories of fruits, veggies, and lean protein as far as fuel for your body.

You got that right...feel like I don't stop eating all day

I always challenge the so-called "clean eaters" to peruse my diary. Clean eating is fine if you enjoy living by common-sense-defying strict rules and such. But I prefer to eat what I enjoy and watch my macros.

Eatting whole/clean foods tastes better and makes me perform better, so I have no desire to eat processed junk. No lie, my absoluted FAVORITE meal is fresh mixed fuit (berries, melon, papaya, pineapple, etc.), cultured cottage cheese mixed with almonds and pumpkin seeds ... SO YUMMY! I also like any kind of meat/fish with avocado and a pinch of salt and cracked pepper ... Simple yummy food makes me happy ... it also makes me happy to reach my fitness goals.

As I type this I'm eatting a some chicken (breast and thigh), a hard boiled egg, an avocado, and an arugala, cherry tomato, mushroom and red onion salad w/ chicken drippings as the dressing ... yums. (w/ salt and pepper of course, abit of chili flake and grated garlic as well)

    EDIT: I'm 5'2, 101-103 lbs, and regularly eat between 1900-2300 calories ... That's a lot for a tiny girl.

Following this post because I just upped my calories Tuesday. I was sick of being hangry all the time and wasn't losing much anyway, so even if it doesn't work for me the not being hangry is a win in itself.

By the way, clean eaters and "real foodies" feel free to add me. :)

I just started MFP a few weeks ago, but I started at the infamous 1200 calorie mark that MFP spit out at me. That lasted about a day, haha. Then I read on the forums about the TDEE - 20% thing so I started doing that. Now, Im breastfeeding so I did add about 400 cal to that number for that, but Im eating 2200 cal + exercise cal and Ive lost 5 lbs in 2 weeks.

I hit a period of five weeks where I didn't lose weight as I was stupidly eating 1200, I upped it to 1700 and the weight started moving. Been doing it ever since and losing slowly but surely :D

Don't feel sorry for me, as I truly enjoy what I eat, just as I'm assuming you do.

Love this! I don't feel sorry for myself as I eat ribeyes for dinner dipped in the most amazing homemade mayo with sweet potato fries.
Ditto!! Well, except for the mayo. I would love your homemade mayo recipe though. =p

    Hi!
Over the past several months I have upped my calories from 1250-1400 all the way to 1800-2200.
(On day;s I do very hard workouts I let myself eat until I'm not hungry...all healthy, high protein foods...so sometimes I go up to 2500.)
I gained three pounds at first, but then I went back to my normal weight. Now am lifting weights, so I have not lost any more weight, but I have lost inches off my waist and hips YAY! Inches matter to me more then the number on the scale
tyhe best thing about actually eating is
A-I can afford more healthy fats in my diet. My energy level is SO much higher then it used to be.
B- I always struggled with acne, but now that I am giving my body the nutrients it needs my skin glows, and I only get an occasional zit from hormonal flux lol
C-With the increase in protein, my nails stopped splitting, my hair is stronger, I feel full through out the the day
D-I almost never get sick anymore

I regret the years I spent on a super restricted calorie diet doing nothing but cardio to lose weight. I feel like it was a waste (it kept me somewhat thin, but o muscles or energy ever...) I am healthier and happier now! Everybody is looking for a quick fix. I'll just slash my calories in half and be fine... but no one thinks about the long term repercussions to starving their body. Slow and steady wins the race. :flowerforyou:

Day 1 was Jan 1, Day 171 was a few days ago. Went from 181.5lbs, 42%BF, Size 12 US pants to 160lbs 19.7%, Size 6 US pants.

Routine: 30DS for two months, Stronglifts 5x5 / Heavy Lifting from Mar to present. Also started Couch 25k, running for 25 minutes at the moment. Eat 2300 on active days, up to 1900 on rest. Five years ago, I tried eating 1400 cals which was what was recommended to me - I lasted two weeks and continued to be skinny fat until January of this year when I decided to eat properly.

That is an excellent question. I'm quite curious about that as well. Everybody says "eat more, starvation mode, bla bla bla". Has anybody actually reached a plateau and then lost some more weight by increasing calories?

I have! Was eating between 1200-1400 and smacked into an unmoving brick wall, then I upped my cals to 1500- 1700 a day and am losing steadily again.
