what is your average calorie intake and average weekly loss? I'm floating around 1600 and am aiming for 1200. So far I've lost weight regardless, my average weight loss has been 2 lbs. per week. I'm curious if others are successful at losing weight eating more then 1200 and what is your average weekly weight loss?

It depends. I eat around 1,600 calories when I do light exercise, and 1,700 - 1,800 on gym days.
I never eat below 1,500. ( I only burn anywhere between 200 - 500 calories with my workouts )
I try to net my BMR which is about 1,443
I'm 5'2", 20yrs old.
I lose about 1lb a week. Slow and steady keeps it off.0 -
i eat 1500 to 1600 , and i burn around 2700 and i average around 2 lbs a week. Ill never eat below 15000

I started MFP 3rd week in January with the goal of losing 18 lbs over 18 weeks. I lost 7 pounds in 4 weeks. I'm at the end of my 5th week of MFP now and have lost 8.5 lbs. My calorie goal has been 1,340/day and I hit that goal about 75% of the time. I would really have a hard time on 1,200 cal/day. On days I exercise, the 1,340 number bumps up quite a bit (usually by at least 500-600 calories) and I almost always eat back every single calorie burned from exercise. I lost 2 lbs/week for the first 2 weeks and was following the goal caloric intake very closely. So I think MFP may have been off a little for me?? Maybe I was overestimating (when not suing a scale or eating out and not finding the exact food in MFP) or not doing the best job entering foods. Who knows. Anyways I'm just happy it was/is working. I have also lost 5 inches. I really need to start strength training on top of the cardio and pilates but having trouble fitting it into my schedule. That's my goal for March.0

Forgot to ask why you're aiming for 1,200 cal if you're doing well at 1,600 cal and losing 2 lbs/week? I'm new to tracking caloric intake, etc. so don't know all the ins and outs of it. Someone told me to try to lose 1-2 lbs/week and no more than that. Sorry if that's a dumb question!0 -
I eat 1850 a day, dont eat excercise cals and try to keep fat and carb macros in the black. Ive lost 10kg/22lb in 62 days so i guess 1kg a week ish0

So, for those that do add exercise along with the lower calorie intake, is it best to makeup the calories burned during exercise?
IE. If I am sticking to 1200 cal/day, but exercising around 300-400 cal, if I wasn't adding the extra calories into my intake, would I likely be putting my self into 'starvation' mode?0 -

I hope someone answers your question!! So I've been trying to stick to my goal of 1,340 cal/day. Then if I exercise I "earn" whatever calories I burned exercising, which bumps up my goal caloric intake to 1,340 cal + let's say 500 cal (whatever I burned). I usually eat that 500 cal back because I don't want to bonk at the gym the next day (I get low blood sugar pretty easily) and I also don't want to lose more than 1-2 lbs/week. Don't know about starvation mode but how do you feel when you don't eat back those calories? For me it's all about how I feel the next day.0 -
I think there is something to be said for the kind of cals too but it's a very individual thing. My goal is 1680 a day. I rarely eat anywhere near that. I've tried eating closer to it and eating a lot less to see if that made a difference as well as doing more in terms of excercise that didn't make a difference either. I'm not saying I'm not losing I'm just saying no of cals only matters to me when it's the best food nutritionaly. My best loss was when I was eating between my goal and 1200 at my macros low sodium plenty of water and no white carbs. That gave me a 1 KG loss. I've been doing this for months varied 1200-1600 a day and never lost more than a KG in a week.0

Wow that's great considering you only had 18 lbs. to lose! Sounds like you're incorperating a lot of exercise. I appreciate all the feed back0 -
2500 calories and 1 lb per week. If I could eat more I would, lol0

1200 is good to loose weigh, but if u want to loose a little more each week you have to burn more calories, so the more you excersise, the more you will loose, but i dont recomend to ever go lower than 1200 calories a day and 30min excersise to start is good enough!!! GOOD LUCK0

Actually, your question is spot on! The OP has dialed into their own ideal and is planning on trying something extreme.
Further. My intake doesn't matter when we aren't even considering height, weight, age...0 -

Thank you, NOT a dumb question. Well, over a 2 mo. period in retrospect, it averages out to 2lbs. per week, however, I'm not actually losing 2lbs. every week. I've had a couple of big losses in a week, ie: 7lbs., 5lbs., type thing, but have gone beyond 2 weeks a couple of times without showing a loss or minimal at best, which is where I'm at now. Also, I'm aiming for 1200 as I haven't been able to incorporate exercise because of health restrictions, so I've lost the 22lbs with almost 90% resting, I've been off work for a couple of months so it's been pretty much no calorie burning other then what it takes to stay alive0 -

Your loss / time frame seem to be similar to mine. How much do you exercise? Or how many calories are you burning with exercise?0 -
I eat about 1400-1500 calories a day and I try to burn about 250 - 300 6 days a week. I have been losing about 1 lb a week. (39 lbs to go till goal)0

That's what I've read, that you would most likely slow down your metabolism (starvation mode). However, I don't think that's a given for everybody, just the rule of thumb type thing. I also believe it depends on your weight and your genes and your own individual body constitution.0 -

I'm waiting to hit the plateau like you're describing. Sounds like it happens to a lot of people. I just don't know how to deal with it when you can't really exercise. (I've had to overcome an exercise plateau and change things up exercise wise like choosing different exercises, etc.) It does make sense you'd want to maybe lower your calories but I don't know. Maybe start a new post with the title - Hit a plateau, can't exercise for health reasons, need your ideas!0 -

Samcat, so how is this working for you? What are you averaging in your weight loss? Also, I get the low blood sugar thing...what do you crave when you get it. I crave protein and have to eat right away of course when it happens.0 -
I average right at 1500. My daily goal is set at 1770, but some days I just CANNOT eat that much. I use my weekly average rather than worry daily about cals. I seem to be losing 1-2 pounds a week. I don't eat back exercise calories, because at 1770, that's already figured in0

OK...I'm ignorant, is 1 KG equivalant to 1lb or 2? I agree about the kind of calories. In fact when I began losing I wasn't counting calories.I was only focusing on adding in nutrients, usually by way of juicing, and eating whatever I wanted besides that. The beauty of that is that by adding the nutrients you very quickly start craving the right foods and less of them. Anyway, I'd say I was
averaging about 1200 calories in food and probably 600 to 1000 in juiced veges & fruits. I started counting calories when the weight loss started to decline and to keep myself in check as I had no idea where I was at caloricly (*spelling?). For the most part
everything I'm eating is nutritious with the exception of a "gift" from my son of girlscout cookies which I've been eating a treat of one serv (4 cookies) per night.0 -

2500 calories and 1 lb per week. If I could eat more I would, lol

And starting weight? height? goal weight??
I am having so much trouble eating 1200 calories/day and barely losing any weight!
I just read article about TDEE and was wondering if that is how you figured out what your calorie goal was?0 -

Yes, I'd like to know too. And what is "TDEE"0 -

1) you accept that averages are what is meant by 2/week, and not expect a minimum of 2 every single week.
2) adjust your calories slowly down ward as you lose weight. About 50 calories less for every 5 - 10 pounds
If you are losing at 1600 there is no good reason to slash down to 1200.0
