MFP tells me to eat 1340 per day to lose an average of 2 per week... Im eating about 1340 per day and still gaining weight....
I am so unmotivated and discouraged, its beyond stupid!

Oh, also, I'm still doing the juicing w/ the calorie counting. I KNOW that an essential to being healthy is eating healthy and getting all the nutrients.

Looking at my report for the last 90 days, my "net" calories are around 1400, with a .5 lb per week loss (average)...which is right in line with what I have my goals set at. However, these numbers are in no way linear, which is why I pretty much ignore what the scale says day-to-day, and just pay attention to the month-by-month trend. I'm actually much more consistent with losing inches than I am pounds, so I'm okay with that too.

thanks, that's helpful. yes, i've been weighing everyday, so that can be discouraging. I'm sure looking at it a month at a time is probably a better mental way to approach it. I just recently started measuring & lost a couple of inches so that was rewarding too and
makes the scale a bit less scary. thanks for the help!

I'm sorry. I know it can be so discouraging, but don't give up, as you will definately gain gain gain if you do. What's been working for me to sort of get my head in the right place was to start "adding" food in to my diet and sort of ignore the calories (in the beginning).
By adding in fruits & veges ( i'm juicing) your body starts getting the nutrients it's been starving for (ie: cravings for junk food) and stops telling you you're hungry all the time. I ate what I wanted, as long as I had aprox 5 to 8 servings of fruits & veges ...easiest for me to incorporate that by doing a juice or juice smoothie. The beauty is, that you start craving healthier foods naturally as the process goes along. It worked for me as it took me out of the "diet" mentality ...of "deprive deprive" and frees you up to not have to
"think". I am now counting calories to gauge what I'm taking in, etc.... and see if this helps things along. I think "switching things up" every so often can help you move through a plateau or help discover what works best for your life style & body constitution....just some thoughts...I'm still on the journey and still on a plateau as well. I just know that being discouraged and giving up has gotten me
only more discouragement and weight. Hope this helps

My true problem... I am sedentary from 7AM-5PM EVERY DAY! I am chained to this stupid desk and phone... when I get home, I am a mom to 4 kids and by time I am done cleaning up from dinner and bathing them, I am ready to fall over... its too late for the gym, its too late to leave the house because they are sleeping... I have a treadmill and am still nursing a torn rotator cuff.... I have maintained my same weight for 4 years.... and in that 4 years, I had my last child... I am completely convinced that I am to be 250 pounds for the rest of my life! > INSERT TEARS HERE <

I workout 6 days a week with Turbofire, averaging around 450cal per day that I exercise. I eat 1500 cal a day, but I haven't weighed myself weekly, so I don't know my weekly loss. :/ I'm just trying not to become glued to the scale.

thanks will have to check that out. and yes, i'm glued to the scale too...i need to work on that.

Well I have good news for you. I have been in bed or resting for about 3 months. I've lost my weight during this time, by doing what I
told you....adding the juicing. I have adrenal exhaustion and haven't yet been able to exercise. So with no exercise and completely sedeatry...I've lost 22 lbs...and I started out at a weight less then you, 216. I'd be happy to give you some specifics of things that have helped me. If you're interested you can friend me & we'll chat. In the time being you will be in my prayers as I "feel your pain".

I try and stay around 1,200-1,400. Losing 0-1.2lb a week. Although my weight has went up and down the same 4lb the past 6 months. :/

So are you saying you've been on a plateau for 6 mos. and prior to that you lost up to 1.5 a week?

I average about 1,300 calories a day and lose 5 pounds a week.

I also started this journey on 1/1 and weighed 420.2 pounds at the time.

I eat my TDEE - 20% = 1025 c per day. If I go over this I gain weight. Do what works for you.

thank you, another poster gave me the formula for this so I'm going to try & figure it all out. I appreciate the feedback.
How is this working for you?
  • In the reports thing I am eating around 1600 each day, with one day closer to 2k. Losing around 2-3lbs per week.

oh my! Has this been hard for you to stick to that calorie range given your weight? that's awesome that you're losing and it makes
sense that you would lose a lot and faster because of your weight. What are you doing to stick to the 1300? Are you also exercising?
I haven't exercised yet due to health issues.

Are you exercising too or is that loss just from the calorie intake?

I eat 1800 calories a day. I have lost since August on average a little about 1 lbs a week. There are some weeks I lose almost none, there are some weeks I lose 2 lbs, but it all averages at 1 lbs per week.
Also, I didn't changed my calorie intake a lot these 6 months (I lost 30 lbs in this time). Just somewhere around 1750-1850.

I haven't and any issues sticking to it. I only eat stuff I know will make me full. My diary is open. I haven't begun exercising, yet. That phase is probably going to start when I get down to 300.

I have a desk job and I workout 1 hour a day (I do beachbodies Les Mills Combat). In all fairness, I am a 5'11, 30yr old male that weights 192 lbs. So in generally, my average TDEE is 3000 calories a day. But most active women I know cut at 1700-2100 calories. If you exercise, you need to eat more otherwise your weight loss will consists of muscle and fat instead of just muscle. So don't get too impressive by quick weight loss if you care about being fit. Besides, when you maintain your muscle, you need to lose less weight to get a fit body.

thank you for the feedback. Agreed, I know exercise is KEY, just working with what I've got to work with right now and will move on to exercise as soon as my health permits. The info. you gave will be helpful to me.

2500 calories and 1 lb per week. If I could eat more I would, lol

Ladies, don't try this at home!

I've been maintaining for about year at 1900 per day on average, but the daily count varies wildly. I actually had to start tracking it on a spreadsheet to get my TDEE because I've decided to try and lose a little more.

Now, I'm trying to average around 1700. No loss yet, but I just dropped it last week.

ETA: I'm a 51 yo female. Desk job, fairly sedentary on weekdays except for doing Turbo Fire. More active on the weekends.

It depends what your goal is. Like I mentioned early, most women I know cut at 1700-2100 and maintain at 2200-2600. But if you want to gain muscle, you have to eat above your maintenance.

1820 calories. Lost 8 lbs in January, 4 lbs this month, so somewhere between 1-1.5 lbs a week loss.
  • 1600 Cals on avg.

1/3 lb per day or 2 - 2.5 per week.

I stay away from dense carbs (i.e. peanut putter or any other "spreads")... Don't stress about keeping to specific workout regime (so that I don't build up a tolerance, etc.)... Try to keep more to a ratio of nutrients instead of necessarily watching calories.

i average about 1000 calories a day burned

    M-T-W-R-F - carido for an hour @ 810-830 cals/hr
    T-R - additional 500 for Basketball

    M-W-F i eat around 1800-2K Cals
    T-R i add approx 200-300 additonal Cals

In almost 9 months i have lost 65lbs (im projecting it to be right around 70 lbs)

so i basically lose about 8lbs a month or 2lbs every week. Some of those weeks i have lost more and some i have lost less and still others i have gained.

Looks like I average about 2000 calories a day, and net about 1600. 49 years old, female, started 6 weeks ago at 170 pounds, have lost 7 pounds. Didn't mean to lose this fast, so in the past week have upped my calorie goal slightly and will try to net more like 1800 per day. Would prefer to lose half a pound to a pound a week, not over a pound.

Wow! That's a pretty good metabolism for our age, I'm 48, 5'4". Thanks for your feedback, I find it even more helpful when it's someone who is close to my age & weight, etc... as the relation maybe more relevant to my situation.
