At what point does weight become unattractive?

Sorry but I think the original post was correct. Obesity is not healthy. There is no way you can eat right and exercise and be fat, yet healthy. Maybe you are accepting and feel like you are contect with your weight and life style, but medically speaking, there is no healthy in being obese.
As for me, it really depends on the person. Beauty is an inside and outside thing and unless they got the personality to match, I'm out. Initial attraction however, I will admit that I tend to be attracted to an 18 and below. I think. It's really hard to say what a person's pant size is just by looking at them.0 -
Marilyn Monroe was a UK size 16. Just thought I'd throw that in there.
No, she wasn't. Using her dressmaker's measurements against modern sizes, she was a size 8. This is a common misconception due to the way sizes have changed over the years.0 -
I am 5'4 and 110 pounds. I look extremely thin and I am currently trying to gain weight.
If I eat less than 2500-3000 calories a day, I start dropping weight like crazy and start looking extremely ill, malnourished and ugly.
So many people in the past have told me that when I get to around 7 stones, I look like either a junkie or someone who is terminally ill.
To answer the question directly - weight becomes unattractive when someone starts looking ill.
That's my personal experience.0 -
These topics always make me laugh.
Who dictates what 'attractive' is? The answer is nobody. Generally speaking, I've found that people who like to put down others based purely on their looks, are generally people who are rather insecure themselves and attempt to bolster their confidence by take pot-shots at those they perceive to be 'lesser' than them.
Well I'm officially a 'fat bird' and have been all my adult life. I can state two things for a fact:
1. I've never had any problems finding men who find me attractive
and
2. I don't give a damn if other people find me unattractive as long as they're polite. If they aren't polite and feel it's their right to pass comment about the way I look then I'm more than happy to correct them with a knee in the gonads.0 -
I am consantly amazed at the variety of human shapes and sizes. People wear their fat in so many different ways. So it would be hard to put a size on unattractive but I guess it's like porn-- you knows it when you sees it.0

Could be 10 lbs overweight, could be 50....its all in the eye of the beholder....0

When you need help to get your shoes on. When you need tools to clean yourself in the bathroom. When you're unable to go to the department store and pick your size in clothes. They don't have it. You have just reached ugly.
Get busy living or get busy dying. Time to get a beefed up bike and start using MFP. That's what i did.0 -
Why are so many people so sensitive about the thiought that somebody MIGHT find a particular weight unattractive? The op asked for opinions.
Because it's impossible to tell--
everyone wears their weight differently,
& not all guys & girls think the same.
It's our own opinion that counts.
If someone bases their happiness on someone else's perception of what we SHOULD look like,
we'd never be happy.0 -
Marilyn Monroe was a UK size 16. Just thought I'd throw that in there.
She was an American size 16 (UK 12) and that was wildly different from the vanity sizing of today 37-23-37 is approx a UK 8 today0 -
For me, at 5'1, being a size 8-10 means I'm at my absolute limit for curvy-sexy. And that would be unattractive in a swimsuit. I don't know about other women, though.
For me, a man's weight is unattractive when he's soft and doughy all over, and/or has breasts.0 -
It becomes a problem when the person with in themselves feel its no longer attractive. We should never live our lives based on other peoples standards of what we should or shouldn't be...me I'm not happy with my weight so I'm doing something about it, but who am I to say that someone heavier shouldn't be proud of the way they look?
Live and let live is what I always say0 -
For me it is about how you carry your weight but I have been told that I am dumb because I can find scars, stretchmarks or wrinkles as sexy. I like things that make women unique so I am not sure how much I helped.
I like a person with a little personality in their features too! I find Adrian Brody and Owen Wilson much more attractive than Brad Pitt.0 -
overweight people do not eat right or exercise, therefore they are not. [healthy]
Well there's a bunch of crap. I'm overweight, eat well and exercise a lot. I'm very healthy.
And there are lots of people that are attracted to a person regardless of their weight.
I don't think that's what she meant. Most women/men that are overweight are not taking any means to change it. Most people that are overweight don't exercise, or eat right. It was not meant to be offensive. Obviously, if we're on this site, we're taking steps to lose weight and eat right and be healthy.
And on the contrary, I had a boyfriend who would constantly tell me "don't lose weight, or do, it doesn't matter, I still love you either way" - but after talking with his best friend(s) after*** we broke up, that was NOT his train of thought at all. Lets face it, most men are extremely shallow and can't get past a woman's size.
However I personally believe that no one has the right to dictate what is or isn't beautiful... there are some people you don't find attractive and their are some that you do. But that doesn't mean that person is completely unattractive to someone else.
The point is, everyone is beautiful to someone. Just because a guy was being a prick about your weight doesn't mean someone else doesn't find you completely breathtaking.0 -

This is a bit of a stretch0 -
Why are so many people so sensitive about the thiought that somebody MIGHT find a particular weight unattractive? The op asked for opinions. And I love how people like to throw around Marilyn Monroes dress size yet they never mention her measurements. It was 36-23-36 with only slight fluctuations.
People should chill out! When I asked for opinions, that was all i wanted, based on a conversation I had the other night.
I agree with the whole confidence thing, and i also agree with its whats on the inside. BUT, when it comes down to it, people look for a mate based on attractiveness. You HAVE to be attracted to the person you're with to a certain extent, and if i cant ask what people think on here then where else can I. It's not a personal attack on overweight people?!0 -

Who exactly am I disrespecting?0 -
I pointed out to him that I was a size 10-12 (US Size 8-10) (I'm 5'4') and he looked me up and down, grimaced (haha), and then said 'Well.... i'd say you were borderline'.
Anyway, I am interest to find out *honest* opinions, at what point does your size make you unattractive?
More importantly, at what point does being a complete and insufferable *kitten* make someone unattractive?
Couldn't agree more!! With friends like that who needs an enemy!!0 -
How much do you weigh?0

And by the way, my BMI is 25.7, which TECHNICALLY, makes me overweight too.0 -

I think deep down you must know the answer... that it is all a matter of personal taste and preference. Some people like tall people, some like short, some like large and some like slim...it isn't rocket science...surely.0 -
Depends on the person and where they carry their weight. My sister and I are identical in height (5'4). She is pear shaped while I am an apple shape (no hips at all). She looks good around 140 because she gets that curvy hourglass shape. I need to be around 130 or else all of the weight goes to my belly and boobs and I just look pregnant. So she looks good in a size 10(US) and I look good in more of a size 4 or 6 US.0

It isn't "weight" that is unattractive (after all, muscle is very attractive and it weighs a lot). It is body fat that is unattractive--"love handles", "beer bellies" "bat wings" "cottage cheese thighs" etc. That's why we make up derogatory names for specific fat deposits.0

Again different perceptions, A innocent question becomes an attack on some individuals. I don't get it personally. Why can't people just have a little natter without feeling like comments are personal attacks all the time.0

I am attracted to whats inside. Size has never been an issue for me as far as dating. even when I was only 115-120 I would date "over weight" guys. because its the inside that mattered more to me. I like to get to know people deeper then their outsides. but that's just me I guess. Thankfully I am married so don't have to worry about that, as he staied with me throught my chubby days, I think he's a keeper0

The concept of 'attractiveness' is subjective so your question is meaningless in a general context because it immediately requires a response of "Unattractive to whom?" There is no one answer to your question, in exactly the same way there is no answer to "What is the best song ever recorded?", "What's the best flavour of ice-cream" or "What's the ugliest car?" It's all completely subjective and offering an opinion can only ever be articulation of personal preferences.0 -
Weights become unattractive when you bash the living daylights out the next person to make stupid *kitten* comments about others with them.
Rest of the time, it's not the weight that is unattractive, but the cold, dead eyes and heart of the person making public judgements of another person's screwability.0 -
Beauty is not definable....It's in the eye of the beholder!0

No indication or realisation of tone of voice/intention = some mardy people.0 -
I'm a size 12 now and at my heaviest I was 12 stone and was a size 16.I'm only 5ft so even now I don't feel attractive or healthy.People were shocked when I was a size 6-8 but because of my height I looked normal0
-
It really depends on the person and how they carry the weight. My younger sister was a knockout at size 16 with her flat tummy teeny waist full thighs and hips and perky butt (think, old style pinup girl) Technically obese, she had as some would say, "curves in all the right places"... I on the other hand, even if I got down to a size 16 would still be all belly rolls and weird shaped behind.... curves in all the WRONG places.
BTW, my sister is now a size 8 and she still has a fantastic figure.0
