THE REAL REASONS I DON'T DO HEAVY WEIGHTS

Hi Ashley,
I hear what you're saying and it all depends on what final results you want to achieve with your body and health.
If you want to get big and muscular, there are a number of ways to do that. But it sounds like you want to get lean
with some nice muscle tone.
My wife wanted to do the same thing and did. She looks fabulous and it's all because of.....

Have a great night!!
yea.... i trust you.
And you can come workout in my gym that's in the back of this dark alley too.
That guy sounds like he's selling some "product." So subtle, dude. :sick:0 -
I was like you.
Now I lift. I can lift heavy & I love it. Trust me, you will love being cut. You will love the fact you don't jiggle anymore & you will LOVE lifting. It's addicting.
You won't bulk up unless you are eating more than you should because you can't bulk on a deficit. Well you can, but it's not hard & will only do so much.0 -
OK TO KEEP IT REAL I DON'T DO HEAVY WEIGHTS FOR 2 REASON
1) I WANT TO GET CUT, BUT I'M SCARED I WILL END UP BUFF/BULKY2) I KNOW MUSCLE IS HEAVIER THAN FAT AND I'VE GOTTEN SO EXCITED SEEING THE SCALE GO DOWN, I'M SCARED THAT WILL MAKE IT GO UP.BUT I KEEP LOOKING AT ALL THESE FITNESS PAGES ON FACEBOOK AND STUFF WITH THESE WOMEN DOING HEAVY WEIGHTS AND I SEE HOW IT WORKS FOR THEIR BODY AND THAT'S WHAT I WANT.I REALLY LIKE WHAT IT DOES FOR THEIR STOMACH, BUTT, THIGHS, AND ARMS.

OP - if you don't want to bulk, stay away from the steroids and lift as heavy as you want/can. You don't bulk when you're eating a caloric deficit and women have a very hard time bulking anyway because they have about 1/10 the testosterone of men. If you see a very muscular, bulky woman, chances are good that she's using a different kind of "supplements" than what you can buy at your local health food store.0 -
Ok to keep it real, I don't do heavy weights for 2 reasons
1) I am scared I'll give up or that it'll be too hard.
2.) I am scared that it might actually do what it's supposed to, and there isn't any magic fix and it'll take work!
fixed that for ya0 -
Why do we have to try and coax you into heavy lifting? You can see for yourself what it does to a woman's body. You spend any amount of time on MFP you can see that it doesn't make you 'bulky'. Either choose to lift or don't. At the end of the day it's your choice how you want your body to look. Good luck with whatever you choose.0

Ps. the "look" that women are afraid of getting if they lift is the result of years of serious dedication to routine AND diet and the use of testosterone/steroids. Women do not have the hormones necessary to build that much muscle naturally.0 -
A pound of muscle weighs exactly the same as a pound of fat. Muscle is more dense, so by volume, the same amount of muscle will weigh more than fat, but by adding muscle and getting rid of fat, you will be smaller. (muscle takes up less room than fat.)0

why are you people so annoying. she was looking for inspiration and a boost up not to be beaten down and kicked. try a positive approach people.
I love this!! People are dumb, they enjoy putting others down so don't be too beat up about it!!
She's right tho', encourage her to lift and explain the benefits rather then basically saying 'deeeeerrrrrrrrr'. Sometimes people know that it's right but they just need some re-assurance and confidence in taking the next step and actually doing it!!
Get stuck in girl!! Just stick at it and the body you want is in sight!! Ignore the scales when your are adding muscle and do your measurements and measure your fat. xx:smooched:0 -
1) I WANT TO GET CUT, BUT I'M SCARED I WILL END UP BUFF/BULKY
Stop using that as a reason. seriously, STOP! You will never end up big and bulky if you lift. If you are looking at pro body builders and saying that. you should know that they have YYYYEEEEEEEEAAAAARRRRSSSSSSSSSS of lifting over you and a little added extra help.0 -

Or you could save that waste of a paragraph and say "muscle weighs more than fat" because it does.
I'd like to redirect you back to KoKo's post where she said she weighed 112 pounds- that girl is all muscle
go ahead and look at my pictures- I weigh 195 pounds.. I don't have much muscle.
yeah..um.... my fat weighs waaay more than her muscle. oh that isn't what you meant? you meant pound for pound muscle weighs more? oh wait that doesn't make sense either. puh-lease you are speaking non-sense.0 -
When I decided on my target weight to lose when I joined MFP last October, I decided on a scale weight that I knew I would fit into a UK size 12 easily which is where I had been my most happiest.
I am now in a UK size 12 but my body shape is even better than it has been before with very little 'fat to pinch' remaining.
I am still 12 lbs off my target weight yet
Oh and did I say................I lift heavy *kitten* and put it down again 3 times a week and maybe a little light cardio on other days :drinker: :drinker: .0 -
Not too much to add here as you've gotten plenty of solid feedback from members who know what they're talking about.
Just wanted to say:
JUST DO IT

Then realize that the fear of getting bulky is irrational and that scale weight really doesn't matter and lift heavy.

That's actually true for me; I'd be a size 0 (when I'm at a much lower body fat %). I do all the leg training. When I'm skinny fat I'm a 2 or a 4. It really depends on your body type and frame. I'm 5'2". Oh and depends on jean brand. Some brands are only to be worn by stick people.
OP get over your fear and get the body you want and ignore any negativity towards your goal.0 -

If you took the same volume of muscle, and compared it to the same volume of fat, the muscle would weigh more. An example might be: fill a pillow case with coins and another one the same size with feathers, and see which one is heavier. If you take a 1 ounce gold coin, and compare it to 1 ounce of feathers in size, the coin is a lot smaller. Muscle takes less room than fat.
With your 195 lbs you probably have more muscle mass than she does. You are carrying over 80 lbs more than she does for daily activity. Your body will require more muscle to do this. Overall she may be stronger, but you may still have more lean mass. She has just trained her muscle for lifting heavier weight than you have.0 -
trust me on this ....... you will not bulk up unless you are eating to bulk up or taking a shot somewhere that you shouldnt be!!!!!!0
-
lifting heavy is not necessary
Do what you enjoy and countine to reach your goals0
