i have a serious love of breakfast cereal, it used to be captain crunch, honey smacks, lucky charms etc. i'm trying to act at least a little my age and switch to a lower-sugar cereal. i've been eating Kix and Kashi Indigo Morning for a couple months now, and i wanted to know what's good and pretty healthy in your breakfast cereal world? i'm into crunchy, puffy-type cereals

I like rice krispies. Lol.
But for healthy, nutritious cereal - I like oats topped with fruit!0 -
I like the Kashi Crunch with a banana. It reminds of an old cereal, I think it was like Smacks or something. I know there was a frog on the box. I also like a vanilla granola kind from Trader Joes.
Edited: Honey Smacks! You mentioned it in your post. Guess I should have read better.0 -
I've not had cereal in a while but the last brand that I really enjoyed and kept me satisfied for the entire morning was Nature's Path Optimum Power Blueberry Cinnamon Flax.
The best part about Nature's Path is it's GMO-free.

I eat Speciak K with strawberries and add a banana or the Vanilla Almond kind is really good, too!0

Kashi cereals are excellent. Many (not all) have a good amount of fiber & protein. Kashi Golden Sunshine is like a low sugar Cap'n Crunch
Kashi Heart to Heart is my fave .... like cheerios (only ... with more fiber) .... also in a cinnamon variety
Special K (original flavor) has a good amount of protien .... I have a piece of fruit alongside (for fiber).
I'm a steel cut oatmeal fan too... I usually mix in powdered peanut butter (protien powder works too).0 -
My favorite is the Reese's Puffs cereal. After that, it would be either cinnamon Life or peanut butter Capn Crunch or Cocoa Pebbles or Cocoa Puffs.
It's hard to pick. Honestly, I get whichever cereal is less than $2.50 a box.0 -
honey nut cheerios or honey bunches of oats. If the milk isn't sweet afterwards, I don't like it.0

Ah these all sound great, i think i'm finally ready to expand my cereal horizons. my mother would be so proud.0

Nature's path organics oatbran/ flax plus multigrain flakes. Only 4g of sugar and 5g of fiber. And they taste good too. I only have them once in a blue moon though.0

Grape Nuts.....or Cinnamon Toast Crunch. Depends on if I ran or not that morning.0
-
I like pain ol' wheat bran flakes with a bit of sugar. I tend to stay away from the kid's cereals. I am capable of consuming an entire box of Lucky Charms in one sitting.0
-
I love Special K Chocolatey Delight!!!!!!0
-
Lucky Charms... om nom nom0
-
Plain ol cheerios0
-
Honey Nut Cheerios. Been eating them everyday for breakfast since middle school!0
-
I have come to only eat oatmeal, I think any others are empty carbs. My favorite is Better Oats (maple brown sugar) I think it is only 90 cal or so and very yummy.0
-
I love my Wheatabix!!0
-
I am crazy about Fiber One's new 80 calorie honey squares! http://www.fiberone.com/products/cereal/80-calories-honey-squares
I also love the new flavors that Cheerios has out - in particular, the peanut butter ones. Yum!0 -
These days, i only have muesli, Ancient Grains or Red River. There was a time when i swore up & down that i would not change my cereal selections and loved every kind possible. Then i realized i had to be more adult about my choices if i actually wanted to lose weight and get healthier.
Key factor: i used to have 2 huge unmeasured bowls of cereal for breakfast. Now i measure out my cereal to one bowl of the recommended serving size (or less) on the side of the box.0 -
Corn Flakes...always have always will...
NO KASHI!0 -
Cinnamon Chex . . . best cereal ever. Plus I don't have to listen to my daughter b!tch at me for eating her Cinnamon Toast Crunch :happy:0
-
I love hot cereal!!!! I make chocolate peanut butter protein oatmeal or a maple banana protein oatmeal a couple times a week, they are my absolute favorite meals to make.0

My favorite cereal is bacon and eggs with plenty of yummy pastured butter.
You might as well enjoy the kids cereal. They are no healthier than the grape nuts or Fiber one.
"...Eating Like Cattle, Getting Fat Like Cattle
We are told to eat lots of ‘carbohydrates’ (sugars) in small meals throughout the day, as recommended by the nutrition industry (the ADA, most Western governments, and other wholly-owned subsidiaries of multinational agribusinesses and drug companies). In other words, we are told to graze—like cattle.
Grazing like a cow means that your bloodstream is always full of sugar. Glucose (a simple sugar) is our body’s primary energy source, and our bodies will always use it first if there is any available. We only start metabolizing fat for energy when there is no sugar left.
Unfortunately, by maintaining such a diet, our ability to metabolize body fat simply atrophies—because it’s never used! This is why dieters feel so desperately hungry, and why it’s hard to reduce ‘carbohydrate’ (= sugar) intake: we’ve got plenty of energy available in the form of body fat, but our body’s ability to metabolize it has atrophied—so we are metabolically starving in the midst of plenty. It’s like having a pantry full of canned tuna and discovering you’ve lost the can opener.
In the scientific literature, the ability to switch back and forth between glycolysis (burning sugar) and beta-oxidation (burning fat) is called “metabolic flexibility“. And while the above paragraph is simplified to avoid dragging my readers into biochemistry, the adventurous can venture here:
Biol Res Nurs April 2009 vol. 10 no. 4 356-373
The Role of Impaired Mitochondrial Lipid Oxidation in Obesity
Mary Madeline Rogge
This is the metabolic component of sugar (‘carbohydrate’) addiction. ""0 -
Lucky charms!!!!! Yummmmmyyy!0

i don't really eat cereal anymore sue to the poor macro ratios but I used to like Vector quite a bit. Unfortunately the protein in Vector was soy.0
-
I love Alpen, weetabix or shreddies0
-
I like Grape Nuts, whole grain and no sugar , after that Shredded Wheat, one ingredient and whole grain.0
-
Special K protein Plus is yummy and keeps me full all morning! When I have this for breakfast I notice I eat less overall for the whole day! Now if I want to cheat I LOVE Captain Crunch but I can't limit myself to the recommended serving size so I don't buy it.0
