Sarcasm + Irony

Thanks for explaining that - I now understand that "turkey bacon" should be considered sarcastic rather than ironic.0

I've always felt that if you're going to use sarcasm over the internet you better lay it on pretty damn thick. Sarcasm is generally expressed through tone and inflection and without those it's just really hard to tell, unless it's blatantly obvious. When someone doesn't pick up on it I rarely blame them.
Here I'll show you.
I think this is a really great thread.
Am I being sarcastic?
This is why we need a sarcasm font.0 -
I'm just butthurt cause I thought someone actually wanted to give me flowers. Sigh0

I'm not certain what this has to do with weight loss?
With love,

Unnecessary anger leads to excess fat storage...... fact.......ish!
Then why are the people eating only 600 calories so angry?
They ate too much. Too much fat building up. Time to reduce to 400 and see if that yields better results. Or maybe not eat, you cant gain fat if you dont eat right?
ETA: Switched pictures old one was dumber than this one.0 -
The fight between "people are mean" and "we're not mean, we're just having fun" crowd is getting tiring to be honest. Its a pointless fight. It would be far easier if people use sarcasm and people who claim to use sarcasm actually knew the difference between being sarcastic and being a foul mouthed buffoon.
I think part of the problem is that in some parts of the USA, sarcasm is used derisively, and in others it's used as humour. In the UK, it can be either, depending on the context.
I think what happens on the forum, is that people see sarcasm and assume it's meant as derision, when the reality is that it's meant as humour. So you get people upset about how "mean" others were, when the others were just trying to lighten the atmosphere a little.0 -
is there cake here?
no but there is sarcasm here and that's calorie free.0 -
How some people totally misinterpret replies
OP: has anyone tried the new Dr Oz diet?
Responder: Of course, you can totally rely on that total quack to give you good dietary information.
How the responder intended it to be read:
:flowerforyou: :smokin: Of course, you can totally rely on that total quack to give you good dietary information. :drinker:  :blushing: (just giving you a little amusing sarcasm as a hint so you can figure out the answer for yourself)
How the OP reads it:
 :explode: Of course, you can totally rely on that total quack to give you good dietary information. :noway:    (I'm being sarcastic because I think you must clearly be the most stupid person to ever walk the earth if you believe anything that quack says)0 -
