Scrambled eggs in the microwave?

Some days I want a change from my usual breakfast and I usually go to the deli downstairs and get an eggwhite and cheese sandwich on a skinny bagel. A co-worker said that she made her own at work by putting eggs in the microwave. I kind of made an eww face, but now I am intrigued. If you do this, how much difference is there from cooking them on the stove? I rarely use the microwave except for my oatmeal, but I may want to try this as another option for breakfast. Any tips?
Also, if you put veggies in them, do you precook the veggies?

They're different, but not bad. It's kind of worth it to have one minute between wanting scrambled eggs and having them.
Edit: Yes to precooking veggies - then mix into the eggs and stir a couple times while cooking.0 -
I have an egg sandwich everyday after the gym before work using the microwave. I have a little round glass bowl (about 4-5 inches across) that I spray with olive oil cooking spray. Crack one egg and add a little milk. Stir it up and I cook it for 2 minutes on half power. Comes out great, and fits perfect on my bread since I use the little round bowl.
If you're adding veggies you'll need to cook them first or else they'll still be raw/crunchy0 -
Scrambled eggs in the microwave are amazing. They get sooooo fluffy and light without any need for butter, oil, or cream. You just have to figure out your microwave strength so you know when to stir them before they become an omelette.0

The good thing about them is you don't have to fry them in butter. You beat two eggs in two tablespoons of milk and then pour in a microwavable glass. Heat for about 30 seconds, stir and heat for another 30 seconds or until eggs are set. They taste pretty much like scrambled eggs. You can also top with cheese.0

I love microwaved scrambled eggs. They are fluffier than if you do them in the skillet I don't even add milk to mine just spray the bowl with cooking spray, scramble up the egg and microwave. It is important to use a glass or ceramic bowl though, I now have egg cooked into a plastic bowl thanks to my husband0

used to make them this way at the greasy spoon i worked at in college. we just broke several eggs in a bowl, mixed in a bit of milk and then set the time for 2 minutes. opened the door to stir them every 30 seconds to get scrambled rather than a bowl shaped omelet and to check on fluffy vs runny. very easy, but not as tasty i find.0

I make a breakfast burrito a couple times a week in the microwave. I prep everything on the weekends so it's grab and go.
In a bowl, I add chopped peppers, onion , mushrooms and turkey bacon with a spritz of cooking spray. I microwave that for a minute, then stir in an egg and a couple tbsp of shredded cheese and microwave it for another minute. I let it sit for about 30 seconds and wrap it in a tortilla.
You could sub regular bacon, but you would probably have to cook it first.0 -
don't cook them too long. i do 33 seconds, stir them up, and then another 33 seconds, and they're done. I don't add veggies at all.0

Don't cook them for too long though, they explode and make a big mess which will have you cursing. I put my eggs in a mug, nothing added usually, then it sets in a small round patty shape, just right to go in an english muffin!0

I do mine in a plastic jug. I don't spray with oil or butter. Just crack in 2 eggs and beat. Sometimes i add a pinch of cheese (or this morning a scoop of soft cheese) and put in the microwave at 700w for 1 minute. Then stir. Back in the microwave for 1 minute, stir and serve. Lovely fluffy eggs in about 3 mins from beginning to end.
My eggs this morning were 190 cals with a good dob of soft cheese in them.
You can also add milk to them, the cooking time takes a little longer - another 30-40 seconds0 -
Hungry Girl has a TON of "egg mug" recipes. I've done several and all have been really good.0

yeah the key like others have said is keep stirring otherwise they come out a bit dry and spongy.
I used to do them for breakfast at work a lot, but have now found a microwave egg poacher so have those instead, much better.0 -
I put my egg whites in there in a bowl. I just spray some PAM at the bottom and 40 seconds. My microwave is 9500 W.0

I love them microwaved. I use a little water. It seems to make them fluffier than milk. Also, I sometimes add grated Parmesan cheese.0

90% of the time at home our scrambled eggs are done in the microwave. Add a splash of milk and some cheese and stir often. Careful not to overcook. They are quite yummy!0

Ok..there is this little container you can get at Walmart...it's meant to make egg patties for breakfast sandwiches. I have found it to make a pretty decent "not runny but not over cooked fried" egg....it takes all of 40 seconds...they're delicious. The container is $2... I like it cuz if the egg ever pops or blows up a bit, it is contained. Of course...a bowl and mug work well too but make sure to cover it =p0

Yep I'm not a morning person and I would never make them for myself on the stove. I also use the small bowl method because it fits nice on an english muffin for a sandwich. Sometimes I add a wedge of Skinny Cow light cheese and mix it together with the egg - comes out a bit creamier.0

yes yes yes! In a small casserole dish i scramble up 2 eggs, add some chopped up veggies (sometimes leftovers from the night before, it helps if they are already cooked a little so they aren't too crunchy), and sometimes i will even cut up and add some Morningstar veggie sausage links. Cover and put it in the microwave for 4-5 minutes (i check halfway through) and it comes out perfect and fluffy! Sometimes, I even mix in some Sriracha hot sauce when I am beating the eggs.
It provides lots of protein and is super tasty, for just 200-300 calories.0 -

Yep! I have my eggs & egg whites this way most mornings at work. Although, sometimes I do add in a slice of cheese for a treat. :happy:

I use a 2-c glass pyrex bowl, some chopped raw spinach & two eggs.
I crack the eggs in the dish over the spinach, add a little water, put the cover on & shake it up.
I take the cover off but then set it on top of the dish.
I cook for 90 seconds, check it and then cook more - between 15-35 seconds.
I add some Cabot cheese on top once it's done & out of the container and I have a protein on the side (this week is blueberry chicken sausages). Some times I add cooked chicken to the eggs & just adjust the cooking time.

Just and FYI: Cooking in the microwave kills nutrients in food. Not deplete them , KILLS THEM.

Well I was going to weigh in and say that no, you could not make scrambled eggs in a microwave, but I see a lot of people like them that way. I think they are terrible - not really a scrambled egg texture, more like the steamed egg wodge we used to get at the school cafeteria - I'd rather eat styrofoam. But each to their own. Try them and if you like them they can make a great protein hit for your day.0

i love microwave eggs for a quick breakfast sandwich! they stay fluffy, and they stay in the shape of the bowl, so it doesn't fall apart. also, you don't need any oil or butter. just soak the bowl in the sink when you're done (or hand it to the dog for a pre-wash)0

I always make scrambled eggs in the microwave - it's the only way I know how! (was the first way someone taught me)
Eggs + a little milk in the measuring jug, heated for roughly a minute per egg. Scramble up, cook for a little bit more if needed/still runny. Yummy!0 -
I always do mine in the microwave. In fact I just had scrambled egg with some cheese added for lunch at work
The trick is to keep mixing often. If you just put it in and cook until done it can be more omelette like and maybe a bit rubbery. But I do mine 20-30 seconds at a time and stir in between. Takes a couple of minutes, eat it out of the bowl it cooks in and only the one bowl to wash up0
