Run as hard as you can for 200 meters, then walk at like 3.5mph for 200 meters.

repeat as many times as you can.

youll see a difference, trust me.

I usually run about 9 to 9.5mph for my 200 meter interval, walk then repeat. god is it gratifying also and it conditions my lungs for my long slower jogs that i take on other days.

My Dr. who is insanely fit; told me that I have to go to bed hungry, and wake up really hungry. Eat more protein, less carbs (less fruit, more veggies), and finish eating by 6 p.m. . I'm having a tough time because I'm a night eater. Judging by him though, it works.
This. Tough to go to bed 'hungry' or what my body has thought 'hungry' is.

That is terrible advice.. you should not go to bed hungry..

Abs are made in the kitchen... seriously they are. Eat clean, clean, clean. Specifically no added sugars or processed foods.

For added success, the more muscle you have the more calories you burn at rest. Strength training your whole body will make your body far more efficient. This helps tremendously when reducing BF.

This is the only good advice in this thread.
I need to find that article again. The amount of fat that muscle burns is so insignificant by itself. It is the training and diet (diet = being what you take in NOT a fly-by-night-eating-program) that do the best. Rarely if EVER do you see someone who is very muscled say 'gee, now i have 1% BF and all muscles I don't need to work out anymore since my muscles will handle it all'.

How many of us are really just not full vs really 'hungry'? (raise hand). This was one of the hard things for me to do - eat when HUNGRY and not when just an empty stomach.

Lifting and really closely watching the foods you eat. I have noticed that Kettlebells is helping a great deal I have been doing the Kettlenetics with Michelle Khai,I started doing lots of cardio and lost weight but my stomach was still there but the Kettlenetics is what started to trim that off pretty quick. And Tae Bo has trimmed some off my lower waist. The Kettlebells really help alot with the stomach area. Or sculpting type workouts with weights. Like Crunch Total Resculpt with Kendall Hogan, or Jari Love Get Extremely Ripped has some awesome workouts with weights.

    Your Dr. Is an idiot.

    I concur.

This. It is not just a matter of losing weight, but improving your body composition, i.e., less body fat while retaining lean body mass.

    What are ketchup chips...?

It's a Canadian thing! ketchup flavoured chips/crisps. Kind of like bbq, but a little sweeter, less bite.

I pretty much cut soda and carbonated water out of my diet. The carbonation would make me feel and look bloated. I treat myself to 1 soda 1-2 times a week now.

I eat less carbs and more fruit. If I am hungry, I will have an apple, orange, or banana, and drink some water while I'm at it too.

I hit it hard on the elliptical for 31 minutes 7 days a week (it's a rarity that I only make it 6).

Pushups -- I do as many as I can every day.

Weight training twice a week (Cybex machines).

I am also looking to add more core strengthening exercises, but have to figure out what "planks" are... I don't want to look like an idiot at the gym, so I need to come up with a list of exercises, practice at home (somewhat), and then work on it at the gym.

Funny how this one always gets thrown out whenever it comes up on here - because it works, not because there is anything magical about the hour of six but because it gives a chance for your body to take a break from digestion and also helps to train the mind to re-figure the difference between the feelings of empty stomach and real hunger.

My overweight was due to regularly visiting the fridge after the evening meal. I was afraid of feeling hungry so I would eat as soon as I felt the least bit empty.

I started to lose weight steadily again as soon as I set myself an 8pm limit to eating, sleep improved and morning hunger was something to look forward to and not be afraid of.

Hi! Diet as well as exercise is very important for obtaining flat abs. There is a saying that "Abs are made in the Kitchen" and I truly believe that. Spot reducing is not going to get you the abs you want. Cardio exercise will raise your metabolic rate enabling you to burn more fat which will reduce your fat in the stomach. Strength training is also a great addition for total body because strength training will increase muscle which then burns fat. I would evaluate your diet. Stay away from processed foods, and supplement your diet with fruits, vegetables, whole grains and limit the dairy. Don't go for fad diets that are out there because you want to make changes that are going to last a lifetime. Feel free to add me as a friend and If there is anything that you need I would be more than willing to help.

I understand the finish eating by 6 pm, but a little snack such as a piece of fruit is not going to be harmful. Depending on your workout routine you may not be supplying your body with enough calories which is not the right thing to do either. The bodies cortisol drops during the night which causes your blood sugar to drop. That is why people have low blood sugar when they wake up. I would recommend not skipping breakfast because of that reason and eating before a workout if you workout in the morning. That is why they say breakfast is the most important meal of the day. I know that you didn't state that you skipped breakfast, but to me it sounds like you are not getting enough calories in your diet.

Yes. Eat less, lower your bf%, blah blah blah.

If your bf% is fairly low, like you say, it's probably more of a postural issue. Check to see if you have an anterior tilt to your hips. It will give you that pooch look in your lower stomach.

It probably works because it helps with night time snacking which is where most people have issues. But, it's not for the reason that it implies.

    We agree. :drinker:

I suspect part of it is genetics. I've always had a FLAT stomach, even when I was 35 pounds overweight. Most of my fat goes to my legs & butt.

Since I've lost weight (initially by diet alone) my stomach has simply gotten slimmer, though not any more flat. Ab work, HIIT, and a 3-day/week weight routine have made my abs harder and more visible.

ETA: I don't eat clean and never have... I don't eat excessive amounts of sugar, refined carbs, and all the supposed "ab killers", but I do eat them.

This may be awarded the yogic bro-science trophy but, hey - I'm used to that.

The development of a flat stomach may also be helped by tonifying the abdominal muscles. Instead of crunching the abs, which causes the abdominal muscles to contract, try sucking your diaphragm right up under your rib cage with your knees slightly bent and your hands on your knees for leverage. Hold and slowly let go.

This will strengthen the abdominal girdle muscles in a different way to crunches and is helpful in pulling the stomach in even when the body is at rest.

Basically, pull your stomach in whenever you remember and it should become a new natural posture for you.

I want a flat stomach. Im not over weight and I think I should have a flat stomach!!! How do I get that exactly?

    Lie down!!!!

seriously though, what everyone else has said... lower your bf%

This made me LOL for real. Whenever I want to admire my flat belly, I lie on the bed or the floor. When I'm standing or sitting, I try to avoid looking at it. It's a work in progress. LOL

I agree with this, and bow to you for 9.5 for 200! I cannot get past 8. I can just see myself flying into the wall if I try to go faster.

Last night, I ate 6 slices of pizza (350 calories each) before 6 PM.
