Well, it's our last week of our Shrinking Into Summer Challenge... we'll have to start brainstorming a new challenge name.

I wish everyone luck at their weigh in tomorrow (or over the weekend).

As for me, I did get to the rec center tonight after my group. Ugh 12 hour work day, but still plugged 40 min on the elliptical.

6/7 days of cardio (goal of 5/7)
1 3+ miles runs (goal of 2, but did a cumulative 7+ miles of running)

I will take whatever the scale gives me tomorrow. It might be a gain, but I know I tried hard this week, so whatevs. Number isn't everything.

I just ran across a great article on food myths:

    http://www.sparkpeople.com/resource/slideshow.asp?show=41

I also found a great link where you type in ingredients on hand and it gives you ideas on what to make:

    http://www.supercook.com/

and my favorite - the best and worst salad toppings:

    http://www.sparkpeople.com/resource/nutrition_articles.asp?id=1388

I am still feeling the effects of my cold and have decided to cancel all clients today. I don't want to make anyone sick. I should be feeling better by Monday... Now it's time to get out of bed and weigh myself. Good luck to me...

    Well, I'll take it...

Today's weigh-in: 194.8 (+1.4 from last week). It's not ideal, as I never want to gain, but I know I had a good week overall with nutrition and exercise, so I'm not terribly upset. Plus, I did lose 5 last week (after not losing any for like 3 weeks. argh), so perhaps this is my body restablizing. I'm totes trying to justify it in my mind.

Anyways, trying not to be too frustrated about it and realize that I had a good week overall.

I'm uber exhausted this morning. I have a client who'll be here any minute, so I need to go, but will check in later to see how y'all are doing and update you on the day. I am going out to lunch with coworkers today at a vegetarian restaurant in town. Definitely looking forward to it. Haven't decided on what, if any exercise I'll do today. I'm pretty tired, and all my gym pants and sports bras are dirty, I know. Excuses Excuses

Well Mr. Scale and I need to have a chat. He needs to kick my but in gear. At least I remained at 188.75 today. Between TOM and this cold it will have to do.

On my 40+ thread we are going to start a challenge for the month of May to kick it up a notch... The main goal will be 60 min of activity 6 of 7 days. Activity can be anything that gets you moving - biking, running, walking, shopping, cleaning house, yoga, stretching, gardening, etc. We also plan to report total calories consumed and how many you were under or over for each day. Does anyone in this group want to join and report it here as well? I know it need to pick up a notch to get the scale moving again.

Morning Super Pals.....Well the scale said 208.2....that is down two pounds from last week...but still up 4 from the beginning of this month. I have to believe thta it is my crazy hormones and things will even out sometime soon...I have to believe that or I would be really bummed:wink: I am still spotting and I started 10 days ago...ARGH!

I did the elliptical today with my new little gadget and the burn while on the elliptcal was a little less than what the machine said, I also noticed it took about 12 minutes before I was actually in "my Zone" for burning fat....so I stayed on longer....but I then noticed that once my HR was up, the machine and the new monitor were reading about the same caloried burn....and then I also checked again 12 mintues after I was off, and my after burn in 12 mintues (which was 50 calories) made things even out...pretty much to what the machine said I burned....a little confusing, but I like that I am getting an honest reading and it will help with my eating.

Although, the trainer guy has been in touch, nothing finalized yet, still asking questions back and forth and I need to send photos this weekend...but he shared that he was not a fan of eating the calories back......this is a copy and paste of what he said

"You asked about eating back exercise calories.

In truth... I'm not a fan of the lingo around MFP. A deficit is a deficit is a deficit. In your body's "mind," you're short on energy regardless of whether said shortage is coming from lack of food or an increase in expenditure.

Rather than looking at eating back exercise calories, especially once you factor in that it's highly estimated... I much prefer to keep it simple.

Pick an estimated maintenance intake using some sane formula that factors in exercise each day. Research puts this at about 14-16 calories per pound, though it's not set in stone. From there, it's a matter of dropping calories from there by 20-50% depending on the individual.

    Clean and simple.
I urge you to reread this article:"
    http://www.body-improvements.com/Articles/Nutrition/ImportanceCalculatingStartingCaloricIntake.html

when I do all this math...it looks like I should be eating around 1900 calories a day...which is pretty close to what "ve been doing....but accoring to mfp when I exercise...that is to low????? I just know I need to make up my mind and stick with something, because ie seems like I switch things around too much....I try to give things a month or so, but if I don't like my results...I change things:frown: looks like it will take him another month or so before he has my program set up for me...so I am going to have to figure something out in the mean time.....but I do think I will get better results with the HRM.
I need to run, have to get to town soon...

Victoria, get plenty of rest...hope yuor better soon! I'd love to post...I'll probably copy and paste both threads if everyone wants to do it here too....helps with accountability!

Deb- glad to hear about the 2 pound loss!

Victoria- I wouldn't be opposed to posting the total amount of calories consumed each day- it can help me stay accountable. In terms of exercise, for me, I don't know if I can commit to 60+ minutes of exercise 6-7 days a week. I end up doing close to that, but as long as it's over 30 min, I count it as a day for exercise. The thing is, I don't have a lot of time during the days to get out and do little forms of exercise. My job is pretty stationary, so when I do get exercise, it tends to be pretty intense (elliptical, running). So, I think I'll continue with my goal of at least 5/7 days a week of some form of exercise for at least 30 min, and at least 2 3+ miles of running. I think this upcoming challenge I'm going to focus more on that then the numerical amount for weight gain. Of course, I'll still make a goal- but it's somewhat arbitrary. But yeah, for our upcoming challenge, I'm totally down with posting intake/output of calories each day! Anyone else have thoughts?

My session went well this morning, but definitely needed that nonfat latte this morning. Mmm... Zingermans... Well, my lunch plans fell through with my colleague, but I didn't bring lunch today, so I'll need to think about what to do. I usually will get a salad from the salad station down the road, but they are pretty expensive, and I'm trying to keep a better tab on my excess spending these next couple of months in anticipation of added living expenses with a new, more expensive place to live. Might get a bagel sandwich with lots of veggies, but I don't know. Hrm.

No definite plans for the weekend. If I don't get out and exercise today (I'm feeling like that might not happen), I need to get out both days this weekend. If the weather holds, maybe a run tomorrow, as it's going to be a PAIN to get around town with the combination of commencement and the President being in town. Hermit oneself!

Deb - I've been thinking about figuring out what my maintenance calories would be, and then attempting to overall get a 3500 cal deficit per week. Half of it from food and half of it from working out. I am finding that I am making bad food choices based on the fact that I can always burn it off at the gym using MFP line of thinking. In my mind, if I say I need to eat X calories a day, it is easier to stick to eating healthy as a total overall and not on the fact that I might go to the gym that night. It is essentially the same thing but not if you get my meaning.

Based on four calorie counters online for maintenance and their average, I need about 2065 cals a day to maintain.
If I want to lose 1 lbs per week, I need to burn 3500 cals.
1750 deficit thru cals = 250 cals a day. That puts me at 1815 cals to eat.
1750 deficit thru exercise four times per week = 438 a day burn. Or I can work out 7 days per week and burn 250 a day
    2065 x 7= 14455 cals to eat per week - 1750 exercise and 1750 reduced cals = 10955 total cals per week

After I get back from my trip I am going to try this out.

And along these same lines, Victoria and Kristina - I am all for either making the upcoming challenge about exercise goals (and calories in if you want) over total weight loss goals. To me it is just easier to think Oh I need to work out to hit my goal, over Oh I need to not eat that and I need to work out and I don't feel like I have the time...
I won't get to the gym 7 days a week, but I can commit to exercising for a total of 1750 cals burned per week.

    Great job mrsmarvelous!!!!:drinker: :drinker:

Yeah DEBRA - I'm glad that 2 pounds came off. :flowerforyou:

We could name the challenge Let's Get Moving In May... Or any other ideas you have. We could try it for 4 weeks or 6 weeks.

Kristina- I would definitely be a hermit all weekend!!! I hate traffic congestion and crowds...

Good luck on your walk tomorrow Kendal - I hope it's a beautiful day.

Lacey - I agree with you on stress affecting weight loss. The last 3 weeks have been rough for me and it shows with no loss. I am going to try a yoga DVD several times a week to see if it can relieve some of my stress.

I do plan to remeasure myself when I weigh in next for the end of our challenge. I have the measurements from when the challenge began. I may only be down 4 pounds this challenge but I feel my clothes are fitting better. Have a nice weekend. I'm sure I'll be checking in again...

Lacey- great calculations. That's something I need to think about for me... how much I really need to intake on average to lose, maintain, etc. I definitely need to log all my foods and exercise, but sometimes the daily over and under shouldn't make me feel so crappy if it all averages out in the end for the week. Something to definitely ponder over this next challenge

Mrsmarvelous- way to go with the loss! Fabulous!

Victoria- I like your "Let's Get Moving in May" name, as perhaps this challenge some of us might be focusing more on exercise goals and getting healthy more than focusing on an actual numerical weight loss. I too measure myself at the end of every challenge. I'm especially curious how many inches I lost this challenge, as I upped the running this time, and I definitely feel like my clothes are continuing to feel better, even with just a 4 pound loss over the last 5 weeks.

Weighing in at 201.5, so no change from last week. Its been kinda hard, because our computer connection stinks, so i can't get on here as much as i am used to doing, so there are alot of calculations floating around in my head. still, doing that and not gaining is good for me, so i am happy.
i vote for sticking with six week challenges, and I like the "lets get moving" idea.
Congrats to those who lost. sorry; i havent been much support, but when you computer keeps konking out, well.....what are you going to do??

OMG y'all- my friend had an extra ticket, so guess who's going to commencement tomorrow to hear President Obama speak? Me! *twirls* Super excited!

Bonus on the exercise front- walking to and from the stadium- will do at brisk pace, and BAM 3 miles of power walking done for the day.

Only problem is you're supposed to be there hella early (security and all), so it'll make for a long and boring morning until then. Worth it! I Hope you all are having a good evening!

good evening ladies. well i finally did day 3 of my c25k with lots of stretching before and after my run/walk. i feel pretty good Sunday i will try to do week 2 day 1, but we will see. i might need to repeat week 1 again after taking so much time off from it. also on the bad front i did stop trying to give up sodas (unintentionally) so i will be starting that up again tomorrow. nothing but water or water with a crystal light packet (for flavor) in it. i like those thing and they are only 5 cals per packet. i think i might keep them in my purse and when i eat at a restaurant i can mix them in to that water too! never thought of that.

i think i am going to try something really simple with the eggplant i bought at the store the other day. i think i am going to slice it and brush it with olive oil and sprinkle some Mrs. Dash Garlic and Herbs seasoning on it. then i will put it in the oven until it is tender and hot all the way through. does that sound like a good way to prepare eggplant with out having to batter it or stuff it with cheese or bread crumbs. i just want something simple and easy to prepare.

Kristina - I am excited for you!!! I would venture into crowds to see him too. Have fun and it's great you're walking there.

Amber - great job on getting through week 1. It's okay to repeat days or weeks. Go at your own pace and you'll graduate in no time.

Carolyn - glad to hear from you and that you are maintaining. Keep up the great work.

Kendal - glad the shoe change helped your pain.

My cold is slowly getting better. I may try running a mile or two later today. I can breath today but am coughing up globs of gunk. Have you guys seen Avitar? We got it on blu-ray and WOW!!!! the graphics and story are great.

I plan to dress up and have a mint julep during the derby today. Have a great weekend.

Pinbot....I tried to rent Avatar last night and all they had was blue ray....we don't have a blue ray player...I was so tempted to go buy one...as a matter of fact I have been thinking about it ever since...hmmm, another splurge perhaps!

My middle girl left this morning for her SAT testing.....I hope she does well, I made her a yummy omlet with all the brain boosting foods.... Hubby had to go into work, just my son and I today...I think after I do my kickboxing, we are going into town to the batting cages...he's trying to talk my into DQ......maybe just a soft serve cone

Weighed in at work Thursday at 232...

Victoria - Im just getting over a beastly summer cold too and you have my sympathies. I walked a mile at work Thursday and felt like someone had beaten me with a bat.. But I'd felt like that all week anyway so might as well walk through it.

Amber, that recipe for eggplant sound yummy, I may try that. I might cut if up in planks and pretend it's french fries.!!

Kristina - you are SO lucky,, I would love to see Obama.

I like the idea of posting our calories and workouts next challenge. Seems like it'll keep us honest.

Hope you all have a great weekend. I'm off to house-sit in another town and I don't know what their internet capabilities are. Be well all!!

Morning ladies! I'm coming to you from my new iPad! It is pretty dern cool even though I have no idea what all iq can do on it. And I'm having a hard time typing!
We are off to watch the U of O spring game today and then get groceries. We've dubbed next week Pizza week. Five nights of different pizza healthified with salad. I can make the crust tomorrow for the week and it will really simplify things for us.

I like the challenge name for May and I also like the healthy and moving focus being toss around. And m easements.

I didn't get to do my walk this morning. My friend overslept and I didn't have anyone else to go with. Plus she signed me up for it so she had all my registration information. I've been busy today and the gym is about to close so I will make up for it tomorrow.

I hope everyone had a great day. I tried to run but with my cold it was more of a slow walk at 15 min miles (*sighs*). I got in 70 min of exercise (10 min walk @ 3mph, 30 min @ 4mph, and 30 min of low impact aerobics). I consumed 2250 csl and was over cal by 228... To many mint juleps with the derby.

I'm weighing in at 231.2 this week. Down .8 from last week. Thats good since my settings are to lose a pound a week.

Lounging around in my pajamas today. The gym is open 1-5 today so I'll go cause its way too hot and humid to take lexi walking.

Then I need to edit a lot of pictures for my parents and put them in a video. aahhh lazy Sundays

I went to the gym this afternoon. Started doing c25k again and 12 minutes into it I realized I was doing week 2 instead of week 3. Instead of starting over I just went with it. So yeah, repeated week 2 again. Oh well. I think God did that on purpose though cause when I was done with c25k I didn't stop. I figured I missed my 5k yesterday so I would make up for it today.

My lazy Sunday has transformed into a "dang you have a lot to do! get off your butt" Sunday. Need to do dishes, edit those pictures, start throwing those pictures into a video montage, plan for lunch and dinner all week, go grocery shopping,

ok....theres 15 minutes left on my show and then I will get my butt up and do something.
